Gaming Destiny | Rise of Iron launch

Anyone who is online and not doing anything in particular? Levelling up my second Warlock and was wondering if someone would want to help me burn through a couple of story missions?

Give me a min and I'll join you
Thank you so much, it's really helpful just having someone to run through it, takes forever doing them at three levels above yours while it just takes a few minutes with a high level player with you.

@Damien I need the 10 Hive majors for the bounty but I can't hurt them, would you just want to burn through three cycles of them so I can get the XP for that?

 Was contemplating doing the urn quest to get gauntlets for my hunter, but did the kill 20 enemies bounty just then and handed it in, got a vanguard package and in it was a pair of 33 light gloves so I don't need to spend time on that. Fantastic :)

Ah hold on, let me get the Shrine of Oryx bounty.
Ah right, forgot about that! Need 60 more impact shards on the moon so I thought we'd do this one before going to Venus since you unlock Venus before completely finishing up Mars.

Ah I love the cutscene on this mission we're about to do /sarcasm

I need to head off after this mission, just so you know. But cheers for helping out, I'll probably be able to get myself up to level 20 tomorrow night since I'm off Monday.

Managed to get enough glimmer to upgrade Red Death and Armamentarium, so the only upgrade I could have done but missed out on was No Backup Plans, which I might end up dismantling anyway.

Got a lot of grinding to do to upgrade hawkmoon, icebreaker and red death now! Who knows, maybe I'll get a piece of raid gear after the reset as well!

Saw the gist of what we were doing, just forgot about the ogres after the second swordbearer. Probably wasn't ideal having Dargon playing all night either, he must be shattered!
Yeh, it is rather simply what you need to do. Executing it is the tricky part. What was letting us down more than anything was we were downing crota to early, so I couldn't get in position and get the three hits in each time. Next time try not firing and waiting for the sword bearer to shout out. That way he is invisible and right next to him ready to swing.

Today is going to be a real struggle now though. Actually watched the sun come up as we played crota lol. Though thanks for letting my warlock tag along, meant I could level the hunters gloves up enough to hit 31

You can't do it from that that room we were in.

I ended up helping out another group have a go at it, you have to rotate between the two stairways.

You only attack from the left hand side.

It's proper bullshit though.

I done it that way too, IMO the room is better once we get the hang of it, I didn't like it too at first.

The thing with that part is it takes a few goes to get into a rhythm, all the groups I was in struggled for the first few goes, but once everyone got their timing right we did well.

The bullshit part is us having to take his shield down twice every time.

yeh hitting him twice each time is rather rough. Would be much better if there was simply no enrage timer, or it was simply 15 minutes at least. Gives you slightly more room to play with.

Yeah, I really don't enjoy it all.

It's a real chore this time round.

The other problem is that the team is under-powered, it takes us a long time to take his shield down, one group I was raiding with had three Gjallarhorns and it took three hits to take it down. Find someone who's good with the sword is going to be annoying in future raids.

I was on it all day yesterday, three different groups and we couldn't down him, so pissed.

Do you guys wanna give a go again?

I'm not doing it again till have 331 weapons.

I'd like to give Crota another go sometime. The strategy we tried seems to be okay, just a matter of getting the shield down quick enough while also dealing the damage through the swordbearer.

Guess they had powerful weapons to take shield down fast.

By which level are you ready to do raids? Have finally gotten around to playing this, it's much better than I thought. Great fun. Are you all insanely good or can more casual players like me make it in the raids?

I think the first one - Vault of Glass - you need to be level 26. The higher the level you are the better as you can withstand more damage and do more. Usually you complete the story mode around level 20 (it depends - if you want to level more quickly then do the bounties that are available from level 4 onwards and reset every day).

Casual players can play fine but there is a reliance on the team. If you have a good leader and one or two good players you can easily pull the rest of the group through the normal mode. I'd advise watching a video before doing it.

You can make it but like ZIDANE says above for normal mode VoG you need to be 26-28 (the enemies at the end are 28 so ideally you'd be 28). For hard mode you need to be as close to 30 as possible. Raid is good but hard work. Like Z says I recommend watching a video or two too.

Cheers guys. I read that raids is the most fun and diverse gameplay the game has to offer. I'm just not thrilled at the grinding needed to get there.

Also: Should you not upgrade your gear at all in the early stages in order to save up Sapphire Wire etc. for later, or do you get everything in return when you eventually dismantle it?

@Jev - I have a couple of 28/29 characters that aren't quite ready for HM raids yet. I'd be happy to do some NM raids with you, if we can get a squad together. I have some raid experience (HM) and can transfer the weapons from my level 30, which will help a lot. It's quite tough getting people to do NM, as most are 30+ now and you get double drop chance on HM.

Add me - Brocky36

What level are you, at the moment?

I'd say just use whatever gives you the perks according your play-style, for the time being, until you start getting more legendary and exotic gear, as you'll get new stuff quite often

Only 14 at the moment, so there's a looong way to go. Nowhere near raid ready yet, even NM, unfortunately.

To be fair to Bungie I think they've made levelling up easier with the recent changes post level 20 - and you don't have to do some of it twice to get where we are.
  • If you do you bounties they will help you level up your character, weapons, and armour more quickly.
  • If you get Vanguard marks from the strikes playlist (think access is level 20 onwards) that can help get the legendary gear that you'll need to go into the raid and the materials like helium filaments (to level the armour) though there is a cap each week.
  • Also you only need either 13 or 23 strange coins and you can get an exotic armour piece from Xur. A weekly strike will give you 9 and you can ask people here to help you through that.
  • Sometimes you get really good drops from engrams.
It is a grind but I guess that is the game...
