Gaming Destiny | Rise of Iron launch

The PvP needs a lot of work, it's a bit of a mess. The guns are terribly balanced, the jumping is silly and the vehicles are ludicrously overpowered.

The co op missions, when played with a couple of mates, are genuinely brilliant though. Tactical, fun and challenging. For that alone it's worth the money, and I'm hoping there's loads of them as I've ploughed through many and really enjoyed them.

Some of you are very hard to please.

Yes the hype for this has been astronomical, but its still a very solid and highly polished AAA title. And those of you complaining about how boring it is to play alone - like COD, BF or even Borderlands, its not really meant to be played alone even if the option is there. So far it seems like a next-gen upscaled Halo which focuses primarily on PVE, that works pretty well for me.

I'm with you on this one mate. I found it immensely fun tonight playing with my mate. I couldn't really imagine playing it alone - it would bore me. I enjoy the PvE aspect much more than the multiplayer although the latter is still very decent and will probably be more enjoyable once I've played it a bit more.

I'm pretty sure the multiplayer was just an obligated inclusion to offer a bit of change of pace and for players to shoot at their mates. Otherwise its very much a PVE game in the same way games like Borderlands, Diablo or heck even MMOs are.

It reminds me of a Diablo of FPS. It's been prenty of fun to play so far even though I don't play with friends but random folk I get paired with and usually end up facing bosses alone. The issue I have with it is it might not last very long, I'm already 4 levels in having played just briefly yesterday and if there are truly only 25 of them it could probably be finished and put back on a shelf within a few days. Grinding up might be the reason to keep playing it for much longer though, even though the loot apparently isn't random which makes it slightly less fun. Good game nonetheless, certainly not ground breaking or anything and I really DID expect fully open world which was one of the main reason why I hyped myself up so much for this game (should have probably read more carefully about it, I know) but I've had fun with it.

Fecking Royal Mail still had mine in the sorting office for processing yesterday, Amazon sent it to then over the weekend so can't blame them.

Listening to the Giant Bombcast this morning and they didn't seem massively impressed. I got offered a cheap PS4 yesterday and was going to get it for this but dont think I'll bother now.

Imo it speaks volumes that Bungie didn't send review copies out.

Getting bored playing on my own wasn't a criticism. I like the game, I just think all games like this are better enjoyed with other people. I had also been playing it for a good three hours, which is bound to tire anyone. The only game I have ever played consistently for more time than that is the Halo franchise.

Anyone played the moon mission with the three princes you have to kill and the big sword you can use yet? Is absolute class. Ended up a massive game of cat and mouse where I provoked the big feckers while my mate sniped them. Tried to take the first one on in a scrap - bad idea.

Hopefully this will be like Diablo in that I could finish it and still play and play and play and play.

Killzone on the Vita was awesome but I just couldn't use the sticks to shoot.
Killzone's control system was excellent. Mercenaries right?
Did Devils Lair at 4
That must have taken fcuking ages? I had to complete it with just one other guy, we were both lvl7....

Ok there are so many of us playing on PS4 there shouldn't be any problem finding people to team up with. I was with mates yesterday but I'm more than happy to team up with you lot... add me: afrocentricity

Also, what's the deal with these PS4 exclusive codes? I never got one?

I had a few excellent rounds in the PvP yesterday, MVP etc... we need to get a PS4 PvP team going. Who is up for it?

Yeah afro its not the control layout its the thumbsticks. They're just not good enough for me to enjoy shooters.

Can the mods add the PS4 names at the beginning of the list like we did for GTA?

None of my friends have this game yet, so would be interested to team up with some of you.

my PSN is Adam_Glanza

You used to be on XB360 didn't you?

Thought it was fine, but fair enough...gyro aim is one of the best things introduced to shooters in the last few years IMO, I wish the DS4 was used like this for the PS4... in fact, why the fcuk is it not being used?
@Weaste... oh yea, he's gone... :(

Lack of random loot is a bummer it has to be said. Really hope they incorporate that in the future.

I didn't expect it to be open world really, just a larger scale, semi-open universe like the Mass Effect games, and that seems to be the case. I can see them introducing bigger maps with more social hubs too to give it a more open-world feel.

Like I said, potential is all there but I can see why people remain skeptical at day one. But the way I see it, Destiny is currently showcasing itself while echoing this mantra:

I don't know why they don't have matchmaking for the campaign missions. Would add a lot to the game I think.

I guess you could stealth invite the people you run into during those missions?

@Kaos agree with what you and @Sarni just said, loads of potential here... as it stands though, it's a solid game and good fun.

True I just think optional matchmaking would be cool.
Yeah I understand, as would optional mm for the raids... Bungie seem to be set on these features, we'll have to deal with it I guess.

Actually I was just being dumb, I didnt realise there's an actual level 8 mission there till later.

I had one of the missions given by the little flashing lights in the area and found myself in that place (not from the mission, from the patrol area) so all I actually did was kill a bunch of enemies, and when a couple of others turned up I got in to the deeper areas there.

But yeah it wasn't the actual level 8 mission that I wasn't aware of when I posted that :D I did that at 7 too

Just tried my hand at multiplayer, yeah its not for me. Going to do a couple of bounties for some XP then I'll ditch it for good.

Did you beat him?
Nah gave up after 10 goes. Says level 12,we were all 11, but I've been reading about level 14 or 15 people who still can't. He's a joke.

Usually we got around 15 percent of his hp down before around 7 wizards come feck us up.

Yhe wizards are tough think it takes at least 2 ppl to take them down. Obv aim for the weak spot under his neck and try to spread out into a group of two and a one. I found being on the ground level by the pillars opposite of where you come in wasn't a bad spot to be. You can jump out and fire away and then take cover behind the pillars. I also think you need to kind of focus on the other enemies and then chip away at the big guy when you get a breather. [spoiler/]

Ended up having a good go on this with Sampy last night and I did enjoy it a lot. Found it really challenging in parts, which is good. There was a mission where 3/4 of the massive purple eyeballs appear that took us several attempts, but that meant it felt pretty good once we cracked it. Had a bit of a go on the PvP as well and, despite losing 4/4, it was still good. The better players always seemed a fair few levels ahead, so I dunno whether they have any kind of advantage from it or whether they have just had a lot more practice.

Will almost certainly be going on again this evening, so if anyone else wants to add me (PS4: tomfoolery33) feel free.
