Gaming Destiny 2 • RedCafe Clan in OP

The first one bored me to death. As much as I'm so tempted, sadly this one seem exactly the same :(

Guess I'm sticking to Splatoon.
Yeah Destiny 1 was absolute gash mate. I just wondered how improved this one would be but after finishing the Giant Bomb Quick Look, it's more of the same. Jeff and Brad didn't seem too impressed by it either although to be fair, Jeff Gerstmann hates everything.

Having this same debate, but then most games bore me to death so it's just whether or not it's worth £40 of entertainment

I loved Destiny - but this was largely due to the social aspect. Started to use LFG websites until I was invited into a clan.

That's what made it special for me.

Yeah that's where I went wrong - I played it mostly alone.

Glad you folk are enjoying anyway.

I didn't play the first but I'm tempted, the main thing that's stopping me is how po faced and soulless it seems.

Interesting. You are a prolific poster, hence I'm pretty sure that if you bought the game, Damien would welcome you into the Caf clan.

Trust me - because of the clan and grind aspect, it became my most played game in history (and I used to play Champ manager).

I guess it depends on if you are that bothered by the social aspect of it. Because without that, it's pretty mundane. In fact, the whole first game was anyway.

Spot on. People were expecting another Halo foray - but were let down as they treated it as a single player experience.

Listen to Redlambs - man knows his games!

In all seriousness though, I really want to try this and get into this. Sucker as I might be, I didn't take to the first but I really want this one to be better and suck my time up. I guess I'm just hoping it will be just a little better to make my mind up.

I'm in the position that I respect that some people don't like destiny. However, if you are saying you don't like it but quit before the House of Wolves or Taken King expansions, then you are basically saying you don't like a completely different Destiny to the one we got from May 2015 onwards. The Taken King was a huge step in the right direction for the franchise.

I've now played about 15 hours of D2 and have gotten distracted by lost sectors, public events etc and have hit level 20 with still 6 main story missions to do!

As a veteran player with over 1000 hours in the first game and who loved the first game, I have to say Destiny 2 has knocked it out of the park compared to D1.

At the end of the day, games like this are not for everyone. I'd say if you just want to play the campaign and do the 'adventure' side missions, you might want to get the game on sale in the future. There's a good 20 - 30 maybe even 40 hours there even if you just did the campaign and cleared the 4 maps of side-quests and lost sectors.

The gunplay is still top quality.

Yeah, because there's actual gamers out there who really don't want to play the latest big release and find reason to do so...

Yeah, these threads are always much much better when they've finished telling everyone why they don't like the game.

Yep I had a group of 3-4 friends all playing at the start and it was great. Once a couple dropped off it was a bit naff.

This literally makes no sense. Stop being so precious.

It's clear some want to play it, but want to see if it's better than the first before we do. I fail to see what's wrong with that.

There's nothing at all wrong with that. I'm just not particularly interested in reading it, personally. Same way I'm not interested in reading it in any of the game threads on this site. I find these threads more entertaining/interesting to read when everyone's got that out of their system. Is that allowed?

This is a forum and the point of it is to communicate. Some people like things, others don't, some of us even want to understand and try these things. You seem to struggle with the point of any of us being on here. If you don't like what's being said, then ignore it. Why would it bother you anyway, does it really affect your enjoyment? If it does, then that's more on you than words written on a forum.

So yeah, not everyone has the same opinion. Some want to talk about the game and know it's worth it before we jump in and invest the time and money. Is that allowed?

It's definitely better/more polished than the first, but it's clearly more of the same.

If you didn't like the first, there's a good chance you probably won't be blown away with the 2nd either.

I think we're talking at cross purposes here perhaps. I'm not at all bothered about people having their say on the game or people asking about it being better than the first or anything. I just personally don't find that as enjoyable/interesting/entertaining to read as I do when these threads have moved past the initial 'new game' phase and are more into discussing what people are actually doing in the game. So, when I say that the thread will be better when we've got past that, that's all I mean. That for me, it'll be a better read. As it is, I skip past as much of the other stuff as I can like, but I gotta swap the old scrolling finger cos I bust my normal one the other day at work  mind you, that's my trigger finger too so makes shooting in game a bit of an exciting job!

Ugh, I'm just so tempted! My problem is not so much the game being decent, I guess I've just been ruined by PC shooters over the years.

My disappointment in the first was probably largely down to really wanting to enjoy it, but just knowing it wasn't all that outside of the friend aspect. I guess I just really wanted this to be unmissable to justify me jumping in

Damn it.

Ahh, that's fair enough. Your initial post didn't make that clear at all

But yeah, I understand what you are saying. For me it's the same when it comes to the initial hype. Fair play my friend :)

I think the first suffered with hype and the fact the new content came far too slowly for the average person, but it got much better in the 2nd year once they started bringing new content quickly.

I think you've got a realistic expectation to what the game is now. I play it mainly with my friend and we've been going through the missions together and it's so much better. If you're lone gunning it might not feel quite so fun.

Stick with it though and i'm sure you'll get hooked like the others, especially one the raid + DLC/special events start happening.

Yep. a few slight QoL improvements being fast travel, engrams having their own section and a change to how you get 'faction rep'. Complete anything whether it be strikes, or even dismantling armour/weapons and you get stuff you can exchange to rep and can get legendary engrams from that.

The one thing I really don't like is shaders being single use. I haven't even used any of them - or the mods - yet because of this.

Same. There is a very good chance I may never use a shader or mod as I will always want to save it for the possible better gear in the future. Its always like that with me. I never use consumables in games as well cause I am always saving them for the next big fight.

I have a tendency to do that with powerful weapons in games. Always try and save them for the biggest and meanest. I did that in Rage and the f*cking game ended before I had a chance to use it.

 I think more of us do this than we know! Ammo too in games. The amount of times I'll have fancy ammo maxed by the time.end credits roll!

But I try to justify it as unknowingly forcing yourself to be better...

So, I just hit max level (20), and I'd say it like this: If you enjoyed Destiny 1, and want more Destiny, then Destiny 2 will slightly improve on the contents (and some weird micro-transaction stuff) therein. Better story (not too great but I'm not playing this for the story), and gameplay is still fun if you liked the first one.

So far, I've enjoyed doing public events. It's just fun to shoot shit with random people, even if it is very basic and a lot of the same from the first game. So I'm not sure whether it'll still be fun in a week or so. Hard to say. But for now, I'm really enjoying it and feel it'll be worth the money paid. I wasn't the most hardcore player of Destiny 1, but I enjoyed it, even pre-Taken King.
