Denis Zakaria / signed for Juventus

There's actually less space and time in midfield in the BL as defense are higher and there's more midfield pressing.

I think if that was the case you would see BL teams further in Europe, I don't think it's a bad league by any stretch of imagination but from what I've seen you seem to have more space in the league and RR even said the same.

Funny how people think we can get a Neves, Ndidi in this window. It’s definitely not happening.

and if you rather not sign any realistic target this January and wait for Rice in the summer, we’ll probably finish 7th by the end of the year, good luck convincing him to come by then.

A lot of smoke from the Bundesliga journalists on this one but still nothing from our side yet, I'd expect us to hear something from them soon if this is legit.

For £5 million it would be low risk signing. I don't think he is good enough on the ball to be a long term option, but we're desperate for midfield cover and his athleticism is a positive for the way we are trying to play.

Looks like there is some movement in Germany? I think for 6-7m it is a no brainer

Stats show he is the best accurate passer of the ball of all CDMs..Goldridge of United Stand has just said it on latest video...

From YouTube highlights he looks like a good mix of Bissaka & Pogba. But is just YouTube highlights you know

At the price it looks a good signing but realised at the Euros he didn’t even get in the team for Switzerland, don’t think he’d be the saviour we want more like an extra body in midfield.

Looks a bit slow and clumsy to me, and nothing special on the ball. And lord knows we need players that can look after possession better.

However - he does know the DM position better than any of our players except Matic, he looks competent, and is relatively cheap. Perhaps buying him will allow us to play 4-3-3 and use McTominay, Fred, Pogba or even VDB as 8s, which would definitely balance the side better. He also gives us some squad depth in case of injuries - right now we're only another injury away from a midfield crisis.

Top European clubs want him BUT United are the only ones willing to pay 5M now. They'd rather have a pop at a Summer freebie.

I always have trouble explaining backhanded compliments to people. Great to have a footie example.

There are times I feel like we need to invest in some quality in central midfield this month or risk having more performances like Wolves and Villa just gone. Fred and McTominay in my opinion would be on squad rotation if we had a good team. Matic would be ideal but sadly we’ve got the 33 year old Matic and not the 25 year old Matic who would have been fecking excellent for us and probably would have been one of the first names on the starting XI most games.

And at that price, we’d be daft to not consider it. It’s a potentially complicated situation since we’re signing someone who will work with Ralf for 5 months and then a new guy after that. Would new guy want Zakaria?

If he was any good Bayern would be in for him.

Anyone in Bundesliga who is truly talented, they are after. The one's they don't care about like Werner can go.

He is average, enough of beefing up this club with average players.

I will rather have Nevez or Ndidi for the DM role
Both are average themselves and good luck trying to have them sell in Jan.

Pretty sure they were interested in Werner at the time? KDB & Vincent kompany looked amazing in the bundesliga. They never showed interest in them either.

McTominay and Fred is a relegation tier midfield. Zakaria is at least an upgrade on that shower of shite.

just watched a few youtube clips of this lad, so I'm a full expert on him, fire away with your questions. Joking aside, it's hard to rate a player on limited clips, but one thing that shines out in them, is his ability to surge forward with the ball. That's something we lack with McFred amongst many things. He seems strong in possession, and his positioning seems very good, again limited viewing but that's what I got from it

The Belgium international joined City at the end of August in a club-record move that cost upwards of £55 million, including add-ons.
But now De Bruyne’s representative, Patrick De Koster, reveals that the 24-year-old would have ended up at Pep Guardiola’s side if the German champions had paid the asking price.
“Kevin's heart was beating for the Bundesliga, where he broke through at Bremen and became a star at Wolfsburg,” De Koster told Sport / Foot Magazine.
“I’m convinced he would have played for Bayern if they had been able to pay the asking price.
“We reached a personal agreement with Bayern after two meetings. The deal has collapsed on the asking price.
“I think that Bayern wanted to pay €50 million, but no more. In the end City won the race and Kevin is super happy with his move. He adapted fast on and off the pitch.”

As for Werner:

Werner was reportedly close to joining Bayern before the season, but the Bavarians did not make a formal bid.
Salihamidzic has now helped to shed light on that decision, suggesting that the striker is not a good fit for their system and that pairing him with star forward Robert Lewandowski would be a tall order.
"Timo Werner is a good player who played an excellent first half of the season," Salihamidzic told Bild.
"However, we have Robert Lewandowski. Robert is a striker who fits our style of play perfectly.
"Robert has the ability to orientate himself in a tight space, the technical ability to move in tight spaces and to find extraordinary solutions with the ball.
"With his speed, Timo Werner needs more room, which he had in the system that Leipzig played. The system at RB has now changed, but it is still not as tight at the front as it is with us."

We already have enough squad options. Mctominay, Fred and Matic should all be squad options. What we need is someone that's going to come in and make that position their own.

Those sorts of players aren't available in January...

Generally not a fan of signing a player for a temporary manager, what is the plan with this player? The money involved isn't really anything to balk at so if he's going to improve the squad, for sure go for him.

Questionable that other clubs arent jumping the gun to pay the fee though, big clubs can afford this amount every day of the week.

They don't have to pay the fee if they can persuade him to join in summer on a free and don't have an immediate need to sign him mid-season.

I am just curious as to how good he is after his knee injury and how his injury record is. He had a long time out and I wonder if hes the same player that burst onto the scene.

Maybe one of our Bundasliga followers can opine, @Hansi Fick or any others?

Saidy Janko was in the youth set-up but I don't know if he ever played for the senior side
He played in the 4-0 loss to MK Dons in the League Cup.

Looks like he's changed nationality to Gambia now though

Others can answer this much better but certainly not the same player (yet). Think we can't underestimate that players need a lot of time after serious injuries like that.

Wouldn't really trust him. Alot of German sources linking us to him, English sources are saying we wont sign him.
Which English sources are saying that? I’m not convinced yet, but Jonathan Shrager’s usually the first to shut down rumours and as far as I’m aware, he said we’ve enquired about him:

Why can he not get a game for Monchengladbach this season? Injuries or contract issues?

He's a defensive midfielder, we have one player who plays that role and his legs are long gone. Neither of McFred are a DM, for less than 10 mill if he came in and helped stabilize our mid, I think it's a no brainer. Short term we need to secure top 4.

Either get him in now or don't get him at all and sign another CDM. You'd think we'd have this sorted as soon as the transfer window opened. It's mid January already. Why the feck are we dithering again for someone that costs peanuts compared to what we are normally after?

Yes I was aware of him and googled it. I never noted that he was in the starting eleven when we got trashed 4:0 by MK Dons. This was the only game a Swiss player was involved in the senior team for ManUtd.

Good omen.
