At least he's a specialist. It'll also allow Fred and McT to actually play their proper positions.
If there’s anything in this it will probably be another Telles type back up player deal. Some people saying he’s awful some saying he could grow into a role here. Most likely just a cheap squad player who will leave in 2/3 years time having done nothing much. For the way our squad is so overly stacked in certain areas and light in others we do at least need a rotational midfielder this January if possible. Kessie on a free in the summer and one other who can really play and dictate. Would be a whole different look to the team then really

Is Kessie any better than Fred ? No point in getting quantity over quality.

Fred has probably already peaked unfortunately. Kessie could be anything in the right team. Looks a PL player physically. He also looked very handy on the ball against us, although we are one of the softest major teams going… he’s got major potential, likes a tackle, good on a ball, hard working… wouldn’t cost the world in wages, free transfer this summer.
it’s not quite risk-free. If he’s not good enough, he just takes up a squad position. Another player that the fans will either never get to watch and demand that he starts or a player fans call “bang average” and starts many games. Potentially another player who ends up on the bench and we hear rumours that he’s not happy and that creates its own problems. To be honest, we should target only technically strong footballers. With the amount of money we spend on players our squad should be full of quality on the ball but it’s quite the opposite. Let’s not just buy another player without planning to fit them in a style of play. As far as I can see from his highlights, he has no real quality on the ball so why even waste the 5m.
Agreed but the last technically sound player VDB isn't getting a game because he isn't physically capable enough, you literally couldn't make it up
Kessie is going to Spurs from what I have been hearing.
Would be a decent signing on a free, but again not particularly a player who will improve us massively.
Whilst I agree it would be nice not to have another 40-50 million mistake and it only be 5.
He is average, enough of beefing up this club with average players.

Dream on, none of them are coming this January. I guess you are another one would want us to continue with McFred for the remainder of the season, when we won’t even be in a Europa League position.
He's a better option than Matić and for 6mio it's worth a risk.
Neves and Ndidi would cost 50+mio. IMO it's time for United to look for cheap options because if we learned something in the past it is that the height transfer fee doesn't guarantee anything.

Wish we’d stop signing those types of players. Maybe as a squad option on a free but we need a specialist CDM and an actual playmaker.
De Jong would give us a lot more guile from deep if we plan to truly dominate games. Declan Rice despite the high price tag will be a beast for us. Far more specialised.
We already have Fred and McT who do what Kessie does arguably on the same level and barely anyone approves.
In January sign a specialised CDM on the cheap but in the summer we need to do everything in our power to build a genuinely world class starting midfield. Kessie belongs nowhere near it unless Fred or McT are sold.
Couldn't agree more. We've already tried this type of 6/8-type of player. Fred, McTominay and Herrera has played a ton of games for us and none of them has been convincing. Of course there's a question of whether they have been coached well enough both individually and as a team for our midfielders to take control of a match. But the two of those three who still are with us, are just not the calm and composed presence we need in there.
I think the need for a deep playmaker is bigger than the need of a tackler/physical presence. McTominay and/or Fred can be coached to fill that hole with the right partner besides them. We need someone in the mould of Carrick, Rodri, Kroos, Busquets and so on. Someone who is tactically strong, and has the skills to employ his tactical qualities.

We never seem to sell players these days. We loan them out which causes more problems as they are still on our books. We have become a charity. So no, we should not be taking "punts" on a midfield player even for cheap prices. We need a player we are sure about.
Looks like a serious athlete. Exactly what we need in there. Fred is very slow and weak despite his tenacity and Scotty isn't exactly a beast. Decent on the ball and in the dribble by the looks of things too. Sign him up Ralfy
It would be surprising if our level of club didn't pick him up in the first place. I'd imagine it would be a Gueye type player. Goes under the radar but ticks a club like ours along nicely.
What happened to interest in , Tchouameni , Kamara, Kessie, Haitara, and others.

The guy has a lot of energy and running in him. He can run and press all day. He has decent technique and passing.
So as a CDM he certainly can do a good job. But I'm not sure if he's good enough for a club with the ambitions of ManUnited.
Going forward you can't expect too much from him.
I think it's quite telling that at the moment, he's behind Granit Xhaka and Remo Freuler (Atalanta) for the places in our central midfield.
(this would certainly change if he becomes a regular for us). Nevertheless, I would like that transfer.

We already have enough squad options. Mctominay, Fred and Matic should all be squad options. What we need is someone that's going to come in and make that position their own.

I'd welcome him rather than no-one but he has dropped off in the last year post injury to his early 20's form that made him so coveted. At the very least he is a better DM than Mctominay but looking at statistics he isn't any better at the defensive side of the game than Fred is but does seem to be a better passer but I'd argue he has more space and time in the BL and struggles to even get in the NT, all in all, he's better than no-one as if Fred or Mctom are injured we have only Matic for that role so it's worth it, underwhelming but for the money it makes complete sense.
I feel like we don’t need another squad option, as that’s what Fred and McTominay should be in an ideal world - we need genuine quality to displace them. But then again it’s January so we have to be realistic. We’re light enough in the midfield position for me to just want anybody to come in this month.
There's actually less space and time in midfield in the BL as defense are higher and there's more midfield pressing.
Saidy Janko was in the youth set-up but I don't know if he ever played for the senior side
