There is a reason I wrote before injury, If he regain his form of the pre injury (which is more likely because he is still young) then no brainer.
Even pre injury he wasn't better than McFred combined, which was the statement.
He's a good player, but i have serious doubts that he's the player to improve our midfield.

One of those players the caf has always raved about but I've never been able to see why, he's average IMO. I would take Kamara or Haidara over him.

In Zakaria's defense, the lad was twice cheaper than Donny and could be twice useful with his particular function & skillset.

It's sad we're still debating what midfielder to sign. Another season went to shitter and we're still without proper midfield for the league.

Are they league percentiles?

They get the percentile by comparing the player to players within their position (so midfield in this case) across the big five leagues (England, Spain, France, Germany, Italy) and European competitions, I think.

What they don't do is adjust the stats for possession say, or take into account the varying quality of different leagues. So obvious Zakaria's stats could be different if he was playing in the PL for Manchester United, or playing for a team with more or less of the ball.

Seen enough of Mctomminay this evening woeful footballer. Get Zakaria in, the club don't need an extraordinary individual just someone who does the basics because this is where Scott and Fred fail with simplicity.

Thanks, makes sense. Wasn't sure.

Yeah exactly what we need but see us passing on the likes of him/Kamara/Kessie in this window

So we replace a player who was probably man of the match last time out, with a player who's not really played well all season in a worse league. Sounds very sensible.

I believe I read on the other day that Bayern already reached some sort of agreement for him to join them next season. Not sure if it's just media gossip, though.

I would be very happy with this signing as long as he isn't the only midfielder in. It otherwise has absolutely no downside.

Personally would accept just him IF we went all in for a Rice/Bellingham in the summer as well

This is believable because the asking price is £6m and we’re trying to do a deal for £5m

Averages fewer passes per 90 than McTominay. What could go wrong?

Not sure why he’s so hyped up on here. Everytime I see him play he’s pretty average. Never looks comfortable in control of the ball when in possession.

For £5m think it's worth a punt

well he can be worse than mcfred, but for 5m it is worth a try.

No, it’s not. We should have learned something by now, otherwise we’re running in circles. We don’t have unlimited slots for players, never mind the concept of budget exists. The reason why we never seem to get away from this rebuilding process is because we don’t get rid of the average players who should not be here, in fact, we renew their contracts, ensuring they’ll stink up the place for even longer. Thus, the players who have failed you before will fail you again, it’s not that shocking really.

You don’t have to look further than our last game and see who was in CB for us. We know why he’s here. The problem is that he’s taking the spot of someone actually capable and reliable. Jones is neither.

We’ve all seen multiple reports for a while now that we have to sell before we buy. And it’s understandable really, considering we have probably the biggest squad in the league. It is a result of shocking management for many years now and the result is for everyone to see.

Hmm, if he is not better than McFred & Matic, then no point of this signing.

We need quality CM/DM, someone closer to Kimmich, Casmeiro, Fabinho, or as good as them, otherwise no point in this signing even if its cheap punt.

We should stay clear of Zakaria, no point in getting him to be backup for McT or Fred when they should be the backups.

We don’t need punts though. We need someone who we are certain will come in and shore up our midfield. We enough players on the payroll who we are still waiting for performances from.
McFred can’t play every game and if one of them gets injured we’ve got Matic as the only cover. So I could see a reason for interest even if it’s a gamble. Get him in on a sensible wage, we can offload him if it doesn’t work out.

We also have to understand where we are currently.

We have an interim manager in charge, why would the club give him a budget for 6 months? I mean the new manager might want a different player in there, spending loads of money will hamper the new managers chances of signing someone.

Matic will leave at the end of the season, a £5m signing will give us some depth cause at the moment we have none.

He did well one season in a foreign league. That’s the requirement on this forum. Yet if a British player consistently does well for a Premier League club, we shouldn’t sign him as it’s lazy scouting ‍♂️

For 6million and at 25 years old, he is worth it. Has to be better than Matic now. Can't understand some on here only wanting players that cost 70/80 million. He can play CDM or CB. Let's give him a chance, if he comes.
