Gareth Barry level IMO. That’s not even a insult. He’ll be a solid premier league player but no way is he top 4 standard.
City won the league with Barry as a starter.

I don’t understand why people on here are so obsessed with signing this guy?
What ever happened to Nigel Reo-Coker?
Moyes played Mourinho football and he was still the best midfielder on the pitch.

Went to Aston Villa
Exactly, so time we corrected that and stopped bringing in the likes of Declan fecking Rice and cementing ourselves firmly in their shadow.
Balls he was. With a bit more composure through midfield they would have posed us a lot more problems.Moyes played Mourinho football and he was still the best midfielder on the pitch.
Who was? Rice?
feck off, you can't mean that, you're pulling our legs.
Pretty much. I hate to buy into tropes and cliches but he is your classic midtable defensive midfielder. He even has that classic one thing in his favour of his resilience and ability to play constant football. Played in all 38 PL matches last season, played every minute so far this one. You’d have to be off your bloody rocker to think this fella is a Manchester United midfielder.
I’m sure he’ll make a half decent centre half down the line, but not here.
If that's his biggest fault, to not be good enough for City to spend a ton on him (and play quite a specific style), he's not got many faults. The ambition of this club is a much bigger question than individual transfers. To be honest, I don't see serious ambition or general competence. We lucked out on Bruno, but Bruno aside, when did we last sign a world class player? Been years and years and then some years. In fact, it was Robin van Persie.
Whatever happened to rhetorical questions?

Di Maria, Pogba, Zlatan
No question Di Maria was World Class when we signed him. Pogba... no doubt either.
Oh, and don't forget Memphis.
Who was better? He did a solid job, was strong in the tackle and held his position well. It’s not a surprise they conceded when he went in for that 50:50 with Shaw.
I concede. And I'll further qualify what I meant: a player who fits and delivers top level performances consistently.
Also, Memphis
People writing him off as the third Longstaff brother after a single game in which no one stood out
Pretty sure some of you would write Rashford off too if he played for WH and was on a similar run of form to now. So much knee-jerk.
Don't diss Memphis, did you not fecking see him against Midtjylland? World Class.
Haha. That was the game where I also thought, oh hang on, and then he went back to believing his own hype.
McTominay is a level above Rice.McTominay was head and shoulders. Fred was also clearly better than him, Fred made 139 passes to Rice's 61 and still had a better percentage than him, plus 3 key passes to Rice's 0. Rice only made one more bloody tackle than Fred.
It's no surprise at all that his shit touch sent them out of the cup, no.
This. He’s clearly a player on the verge of being an even better player. People used to mock Henderson and he became a big player for Liverpool. I feel like Rice would grow a lot more amongst better players? What's their recent run, 7 wins in 9 or something ridiculous. He's their best player and they absolutely love him. He's easily good enough for United, the only questions are is he better than the alternatives and will he be available at an acceptable price.
I've never seen Rice and thought he's a player we need. He seems to be a very competent footballer and not much else.
Matic, Fred and McTominay all comfortably better and we are looking to improve upon them in the deeper role
Really have no idea what game you were watching if you felt that.Matic doesn't have the legs whereas Rice does. Apart from the heavy touch I thought Rice controlled the game from a DM perspective. He has the physicality plus the passing ability. If you pair Rice with McTominay or Fred and Upamecano with Maguire, that should fix the defence.

Wouldn't you say it was due to defending in numbers and he (Rice) was one of many obstacles that we had to navigate?A game where United did very little for the possession they had for 90+ minutes. If you are a DM in a team that sets up to defend, you have succeeded if the opposition doesn't create many clear cut chances.
The question is, is he worth prioritising over someone from outside the Premier League in the current climate? For me the answer is no, due to what West Ham would want.
Can we sign someone from abroad who could do the same job, but is considerably cheaper? I'd say we could.
If you're in a team that is set up to defend for 90+ minutes, and your standout moment came when you gave the ball away for the only goal of the game, can you really attest to having a positive impact? The praise in which you look to bestow until Rice can be given to any one of the XI. If you're looking to make a move to a big club, don't you think you need to be more than one of the crowd?A game where United did very little for the possession they had for 90+ minutes. If you are a DM in a team that sets up to defend, you have succeeded if the opposition doesn't create many clear cut chances.
I don't know if Inter would let him go, but Marcelo Brozovic looks a really interesting player for the role and can distribute the ball extremely well. He's 28 though, so might not be welcome due to being a OAP for some. We have runners in our team like McFred but need genuine class on the ball which I feel we lack in the build up phase.I presume you are thinking of people like Zakaria, Koopemeiners or Locatelli or did you have someone completely different in mind that hadn't even been mentioned by anyone on here yet, if so feel free to share it because think it would be a smart move to look outside the league as could definitely pick up someone cheaper.
