Huge pressure on Arteta to win the league now. They’ve spent some huge money over the last few years without anything to show for it.
Rebuilding and winning takes time. It's not their fault that one player costs 100m. Gone are the days where that budget would get you an entire squad plus subs.
The problem is the team that just win the treble have also gone out and spent big money. City will no doubt have to fork out close to £100M for Gvardiol and will probably end up spending as much money as Arsenal over the summer.

Good signing. He's a quality DM at a great age that fits the age profile of their team. Interested to see what they do with havertz, as they need a link between rice and Odegaard IMO like City often did with Gundogan. With havertz, timber, rice this summer, thats a great window that should let them push on from last season and be able to maintain league level of around 80 points while competing across all competitions. Think they lack the elite, ruthless scorer to push 90 points though, and nobody in their squad has that level.
Fee is big for Rice, but it's not a huge deal paying a big fee for a player that can be a top player for the next 10 years, given the level he is already at, his physical qualities and being only 24.

Complacency could be a factor as could the relentless pressure of guardiolas methods which do take a toll on players mentally and physically.
Also losing gundogan could be important and no guarenetees they wont lose bernardo silva this summer.

Remember a few weeks ago, when Arsenal bottling the league meant that the sky was falling and Arsenal were failures? Yeah... nothing happened thereafter, as expected. What about the season before, when Arteta's contract was extended before securing top four. You remember the noise made back then? What did the club do after? Once again... it did its own thing.
I keep repeating this. Arsenal operates in a different manner to other clubs. Stability and continuity is valued ahead of pleasing the masses and folding to outside pressure. The club knows the value of sticking to a plan, as they have with Arteta. The rest are narratives built up by everyone else, and its meaningless to Arsenal and their club plans.
Nothing will change, if the financial targets are being met, and that means consistent CL qualification first and foremost. You'll see this happen again.

Apologies if it's been said, as I haven't followed the thread closely, but it appears Man City have once again played a Sanchez/Fred/Maguire/Ronaldo style blinder. That old trick where they effectively cause their potential rivals to waste valuable funds by pretending to join and ultimately lose a bidding war.

Glad for them that they spend money but they've been spending big amounts for many years. The bizarre narrative about poor Arsenal having to do it against the odds is very strange. 2nd in the Leauge and 250m spent. Anything less than a very sustained title challenge now will be a disappointment.
We just scored 6 goals less than City who has a f**king robot up top. So Goals were not such a huge concern.
You replace Jesus with any other forward not named Kane/Haaland and the overall performance would suffer. Even with Haaland the teamplay would suffer a bit but he more than makes up for it.

All true and valid reasons for why City might not win it all again but I still don’t think anybody expects Arsenal to win the title over City.
I like Rice but don't thin he's going to transform them. Useful signing though when the money could've easily been wasted elsewhere (Vieira, almost mudryk).
Very good player but it's a crazy fee. If Rice was foreign he would be worth maybe 60-70 million max. Still they are getting a PL proven player who could stay at the club for a decade.

Both defence and attack need to be better to get to City. City had roughly 10 xG more and 10 xG fewer while competing across all competitions, you had full focus in the prem. First step for you will be to sustain the level you showed last season while playing 2 games per week, which will take a lot of work.
Not true at all. Tchouameni went for 100m at a point where he proved less than Rice (but higher potential arguably). Tonali going for 70m while proving absolutely nothing.
It's just a case of premier league clubs having too much money and the market is all fecked.
Be a key player in a team that is set to be a regular top tier premier league side which tends to mean top tier side around Europe for the next few years, given the age of the others around him? And he stays in London which is obviously a factor for him. It's not weird.
Like you said Tchouameni has a huge ceiling. Tonali is probably a similar level to Rice so their fees should be similar I'd say. I mean at 60-70 million I agree he is a very good player my point is the fee is crazy.
If we believe what we read, he could have gone to City or Bayern. Both of those are absolute no brainers over Arsenal, who have so far yet to prove this season wasn't just a one off.
Because of the embarrassing money at City, Newcastle, maybe us, Chelsea et al it wouldn't even be a surprise if Arsenal finished 5th in 2 years. That's not a dig at Arsenal either btw. Just it feels like right now Rice could have chosen pretty much anyone in World football. And he's chosen Arsenal. I, personally, find that weird.
