In and out? Who pushes him out of central midfield?

Surely Bellingham and Rice is the midfield partnership long term (maybe with a 3rd player in there).
As soon as a technically better player comes along, Rice will lose his place as a starter. He'll play in the games where England need more protection at the back.

He's a good player but in a normal transfer market he'd be worth probably half what they're paying. It's crazy money - which doesn't ultimately matter with regards to him (I've always found it strange when players are held up against their transfer fees), but more the impact on their summer budget when they really need strengthening in several positions.
Midfield is one of those positions as Xhaka is on his way out. I don't think we would be happy if we went with an unknown or less proven player.

If Caceido after a single full season costs more than 85 million then what’s so surprising about Rice costing above that when this is his 3rd good season when he outcome the Fans Caceido’s of the previous season such as Ndidi, Ndombele & the Brighton lad Bissouma?

Rice isn’t worth 100 mil but no one is - not even Caceido at a few million less.
Caceido definitely isn't worth it either but Brighton always ask for daft money. I'd say Caceido has a higher ceiling though and seems to have more admirers from within the PL than Rice.

We shall see, I can easily see Rice as captain for England.

That's potentially Arsenal just spending half a billion quid on transfers in the last 3 years then.

What makes you say he has a higher ceiling? How many games of each have you watched?

For what it's worth Caicedo would have been my first choice too. Even though I've only watched him a few times he looks like a huge prospect to me.

I remember the time when 20 mil was a crazy amount, now it is 100+5 for Declan Rice.

Good player but ...100+5....Lot more pressure on Arteta now to deliver.

Foden, Grealish, Maddison, Bellingham, Alexander Arnold, Kalvin Phillips, Mount, Henderson , Gallagher -

Rice hasn’t missed a single match over them when Southgate could have had so many different options.

There's a world of options between 105m Declan Rice and "unknown or less proven", but if you guys are happy, that's cool. Just seems like Rice + Havertz for those amounts are marginal upgrades for massive fees, but then again you guys are spending like crazy these past few years so who knows.

He just seems capable of being more involved and a better reader of the game, and I've never seen him have a bad game against a top team, really seems to rise to the occasion. I've watched Brighton against all the top 6 last season. Rice is only effective in his own half between his own box and the half way line.

Most top teams seem to agree also considering Arsenal, Chelsea, United and Liverpool have all been interested in him, I'd also watch who City go for now they're out of the Rice race.

I thought Caicedo was what we needed as well but Rice is the more overall versatile package. Versatility seems an important thing nowadays. It will be good to see Rice slot in but I feel we are a bit lightweight if Havertz is indeed replacing Xhaka.

The only one of them that is a DM is Phillips (I guess you could argue Henderson but he is ancient) and he has been injured most of the year. Rice is decent but he is no more than that.

Well it’s just the fans. The quality of manager is different.

Rice has been linked to City/Pep, Arsenal/Arteta, United/Ten Hag & Bayern/Tuchel.

Caceido is just Being linked to Pochettino/Chelsea, Arteta’s 2nd choice to rice himself & United’s after Mount.

The first group have only become interested because he's leaving and they think they can get him on the cheap, there's not a single team that wouldn't have him at £40m. How many clubs have been put of by Brighton's evaluation of Caceido? Or perhaps the fact he came out on Twitter or Instagram to announce he was leaving randomly?

Most clubs have looked at him and said it's not worth it for whatever reason so they're looking at Rice instead, and now they're saying he's not worth it either so they might as well come back to the guy they really want. Arteta tried to sign Caceido last January by the way, before they even looked at Rice.

Versatile really isn't the word I'd use in relation to Rice.

Sure but during the Euro final - Rice played with Phillips & Southgate also had the ability to choose Henderson or even Milner.

Rice has dealt with his competition as well as he can & available.

West Ham have always wanted £100+ for rice. That’s been public knowledge for years.

At least now can the media and Arsenal fans stop pretending they are some underdogs and arteta is working with a tight budget. You lot have outspent most other teams in last 3 seasons. You were even ready to splash huge money on Mudryk. Got 3 new players in January.

High time arteta is expected to do more with the squad and not be celebrated for botlling.

So they went for the more expensive player in Rice after getting rejected at 70 mil for Caceido.

Probably just the better player in Arteta’s eyes even if Caceido is more eye catching to the fans.

agreed.
Bottled the league in essence yeah but at least provided entertainment for 4/5 of the season rather than must have City walk the league from Xmas onwards.

At the end of the day, who wants a City borefest season after season? I hope United and co strengthen equally too

I can in a pinch but you look at the way Southgate picks captains, it's players who he believes will start every game and are the best players in the squad, hence the reason it's Kane currently. That doesn't really sound like Rice.
It doesn't sound like Maguire but Maguire is vice captain isn't he?

Saying he is better than Henderson, Milner and Phillips is a bit of faint praise to be honest.

I have no idea, just like I had no idea Bellingham at 18 would be signing for Real Madrid and be an instant starter for England, but I know a limited player when I see one.
That "limited" player has pretty much not missed a game for Southgate.

I think in Rice Arteta sees his captain for the next decade or so, to be a bit dramatic. Not sure he sees as strong a leader in Caceido.

Surely Odegaard is your captain for the next decade?
Yes of course. Sorry I didn't phrase it well. I meant that he sees him as a leader and captain material, someone to build the team around (like Odegaard). He seems absolutely desperate for him.

Eni Aluko right now.

Why is Rice so disliked on here? Those who dislike him are so very much against him  it's quite weird.
I don't dislike him at all - I think he is a good enough player but who is also hugely overrated. That's not his fault, it's just how it is.
