£100m + £5m. Yikes.
We used to lose out when we were winning too.City lose out on so many players for a team of their quality.
Think the plan is Havertz replaces Xhakha and Rice would start over Partey. Rice is very important for the Rice - Havertz - Odegaard midfield to work. And Zinchenko - Timber/White will help in the buildup phaseGreat news for the Arsenal fans in here, the ones who were absolutely certain he was joining almost had egg on their face
To be fair I think it's a great signing, Arsenal don't need a lot, they need depth and Rice will relegate Xhaka to the bench and add quality/depth.
Havertz and probably Timber too, they gotta be up there again next season surely? That's the pressure they have to get used to.
Not sure we lost out to domestic rivals as routinely as City do. We rarely do it now!We used to lose out when we were winning too.
Thank God, perhaps we can finally move on. If City won't be coming in with another bid, West Ham will have to take our offer instead of squabbling over the payment structure.Tweet

Might be the best business I have seen since Leicester fleeced us for Maguire.West Ham have played a blinder here.
I hate how well run City are in terms of transfers. For all the money they have, they are never involved in silly bidding wars. They offer what they think is best and if its not accepted they move on.
There should be more about the money spent on Havertz, but it's hardly a surprise that the press aren't mocking or questioning Arsenal when they're signing one of the counties best midfielders.Arsenal are spending a shit ton yet again but it barely gets dwelled upon by the press.
I´m sure most clubs work like that, no?I hate how well run City are in terms of transfers. For all the money they have, they are never involved in silly bidding wars. They offer what they think is best and if its not accepted they move on.
Weird, right? They always seem to avoid scrutiny about their massive spending whilst Chelsea/City/United don’t.Arsenal are spending a shit ton yet again but it barely gets dwelled upon by the press.
Agree, although I’m sure we’d see a different stance if they were 2nd, 3rd or 4th.I hate how well run City are in terms of transfers. For all the money they have, they are never involved in silly bidding wars. They offer what they think is best and if its not accepted they move on.
Which they'll probably exercise but Chelsea's owner being stupid doesn't mean the entire market has to follow. Rice isn't worth more than £40m, not for a player in his position that does what he does. These evaluations are crazy for a player that's available for sale.Fair point. Though West Ham do have the option to extend Rice’s by a year.
If the rumours are to be believed, Arteta has about £200mil to spend this summer, £165 mil of which he'd already have spent on Rice and Havertz. We're supposedly in advanced talks for Timber too (at about £40mil mark) so that will probably be that, unless we make any significant sales (eg Balogun could go for about £30mil).Forgetting the fee and looking surely at the signing, I think this is an excellent signing for Arsenal.
I would have loved United to get him. But given that Arsenal are (surely) spending their whole transfer budget on him shows how important he will be to them. I don't think United could build a team around him.
I think I praise them more because they have a lot of money to spend if they wanted to. I cant think of many transfers were they over spent or over paid. Remember they were in for Sanchez with us, even VVD they thought it was too expensive (incorrectly in hindsight)I´m sure most clubs work like that, no?
It's a lot easier when you're already top of the pile. They spent silly money on certain players at times to claw their way there.I hate how well run City are in terms of transfers. For all the money they have, they are never involved in silly bidding wars. They offer what they think is best and if its not accepted they move on.
There is no way Rice - who is probably future England captain - would go for £40mil in today's market.Which they'll probably exercise but Chelsea's owner being stupid doesn't mean the entire market has to follow. Rice isn't worth more than £40m, not for a player in his position that does what he does. These evaluations are crazy for a player that's available for sale.
Ah okay! That's a decent lineup to be fair, with some solid depth.Think the plan is Havertz replaces Xhakha and Rice would start over Partey. Rice is very important for the Rice - Havertz - Odegaard midfield to work. And Zinchenko - Timber/White will help in the buildup phase
They literally have 2 top 4 level players for every position, they don't need to do that. When they really need someone, the transfer is magically so easy...I hate how well run City are in terms of transfers. For all the money they have, they are never involved in silly bidding wars. They offer what they think is best and if its not accepted they move on.
How is Rice a future England captain? And if that's the only thing pushing up his value then there's major issues with that valuation of over £100mThere is no way Rice - who is probably future England captain - would go for £40mil in today's market.
It's extremely weird, I can't explain it.Weird, right? They always seem to avoid scrutiny about their massive spending whilst Chelsea/City/United don’t.
I think that should change now, though. Perhaps it’s because they never really went above ~£50m for any one player except for Pepe. Now they’ve joined the rest of the big PL clubs and are spending mega money on players.
How isn't he? Who would you say is likely instead. It looks like a forgone conclusion to me. The price for him is mad, but it's far from a surprise, and big money has been spent on worse. How is Rice a future England captain? And if that's the only thing pushing up his value then there's major issues with that valuation of over £100m
They move on when the player tells them they don’t want to join City.I hate how well run City are in terms of transfers. For all the money they have, they are never involved in silly bidding wars. They offer what they think is best and if its not accepted they move on.
I'd be willing to bet a great deal of money that the future England captain is Bellingham, if not him then John Stones. Rice will be in and out of the England squad over his entire career so I doubt he'll ever be regular enough to be captain. How isn't he? Who would you say is likely instead. Yeah, that is fair, they seem very sensible most times.I think I praise them more because they have a lot of money to spend if they wanted to. I cant think of many transfers were they over spent or over paid. Remember they were in for Sanchez with us, even VVD they thought it was too expensive (incorrectly in hindsight)
According to Southgate, he is in the conversation. He is captain of West Ham currently. How is Rice a future England captain? And if that's the only thing pushing up his value then there's major issues with that valuation of over £100m
In and out? Who pushes him out of central midfield?I'd be willing to bet a great deal of money that the future England captain is Bellingham, if not him then John Stones. Rice will be in and out of the England squad over his entire career so I doubt he'll ever be regular enough to be captain.
If Caceido after a single full season costs more than 85 million then what’s so surprising about Rice costing above that when this is his 3rd good season when he outcome the Fans Caceido’s of the previous season such as Ndidi, Ndombele & the Brighton lad Bissouma? How is Rice a future England captain? And if that's the only thing pushing up his value then there's major issues with that valuation of over £100m
Since being eligible for England has Rice ever been left out of the England squad?I'd be willing to bet a great deal of money that the future England captain is Bellingham, if not him then John Stones. Rice will be in and out of the England squad over his entire career so I doubt he'll ever be regular enough to be captain.
Great signing for sure if we sort out these supposed finer details - one of the best midfielders in the league, perfect age (peak ahead of him), British, a leader. It's still mad money though.Great news for the Arsenal fans in here, the ones who were absolutely certain he was joining almost had egg on their face
