De Rossi Up For Sale

He'll stay at Rome I reckon.

De Rossi is quality, but he's 29 or thereabouts isn't he? Can't imagine he would be cheap either.

 I fecking love De Rossi

Hopefully he doesn't go to City/Chelsea - both could do with him

City's IMO.
City being perma linked to him always stank of Mancini.

With him gone and them already having spunked a ton of cash on a midfielder are they really going to spunk a ton more on another, as good as De Rossi is?

City do have space for him even with Fernandinho, it's only really him, Yaya and Barry as the senior centre mids and that isn't excessive by any means. The result of him coming would just be a demotion of Barry which is absolutely fine if they have ambitions of winning the title again - he played in 31 of the 38 league games so there is clear improvement to me made by City there, Barry is an average player and substituting him for De Rossi would make them a much better side.

Also, seeing as both Tevez and Balotelli have left it could leave Pellegrini playing just one up top with Yaya slightly further forward, in which case De Rossi would stroll into that team as a perfect fit.

Yeah.

Always felt City are best when it's Toure at AM.

Turning 30 in about a month so probably wouldn't be completely worth it, depending on the price of course. We could get him to hold that position for 3 seasons or so until Strootman or someone takes over, but I'd rather just get Thiago if I'm honest.

fecking hell, I'd have said he was at least 46, seems like he's been around forever.

Can't see him going to City now they've brought in that Brazilian lad. Unless they're offloading 1 of Barry, Toure or Garcia that is...

Chelsea are the team who could really do with him. With Mikel supposedly off to Galatasaray it doesn't leave many potential partners for Ramires in the middle, I wouldn't want to rely on 35 year old Lampard and Essien isn't close to the player he used to be.

This won't happen. He'll want a shitload of money to leave Roma and I doubt we'd meet his demands. As others have said, this is more of a City/Chelsea signing.

I can't see us taking an expensive short term option when it comes to midfield. We don't want a situation in a few years time where both our midfielders are getting on a bit (as Carrick probably will be by then). A young but quality signing is far more likely.

Carrick is getting on a bit now, nevermind in a few seasons.

Sign him up. Pretty much the perfect midfielder for a 2 man midfield. What a fecking beast

Welcome to every summer since 2004.

Basically he should have left years ago when he was in his early 20's he was linked to us for years loved him around 03-05 best midfielder in Italy at the time. He has been a great player for Roma could have been one of the world's very best I don't think he reached that level. He reminds me of Totti character wise hot headed and passionate, is it me or do they look alike ??

He's the highest paid player in the Serie A, if I'm not wrong. I doubt any team apart from City and Chelsea can afford him.

It's you :)

Not good enough for his age and cost. That's why Roma doesn't rule out a sale. It's better for them in the long term despite him being the homeboy that he is.

Similar with Milan releasing Ambrosini despite him having been their captain.

Too late as far as United go, if he comes to the PL my guess is it will be to Chelsea. It's interesting their president says everyone is for sale, I thought they just got a sugar daddy.

If everybody is for sale can we sign Lamela pls.

On the first part, realistically every player is for sale especially if they have ambitions of leaving - which it wouldn't surprise me De Rossi having at this stage of his career. I wouldn't read too much into the Roma comments, other than the fact they know they could recieve a large fee for a player approaching 30.

The latter part is way off though, nothing like the Ambrosini situation IMO. De Rossi is better than Ambrosini ever was and he's only 29, Ambrosini is 36. It's not as if Roma want to get rid of him.

Not really similar at all considering De Rossi is one of the best midfielders in the world and Ambrosini isn't even close to anything like that.

I'd be shocked if he left and don't believe for one moment he wants to. Chelsea would be the obvious destination. A loyal player that's stuck by Roma through thick and thin. We need people like him in the game. Age doesn't matter either, still one of the best around and able to fit in numerous different systems. Still easily the best defensive midfielder in the world.

Haven't Roma basically been hawking him for three or four seasons?

He is much better than Ambrosini. He is still one of Roma's best players if not their most important. That is a money motivated move he is payed a lot (Most in Serie A) and he is 30 he will be in decline in 2-3 years. He should have moved years ago he will stay at Roma now imo.

I see De Rossi continues to be as overrated as ever on the Caf then...

You could get away with the overrated tag because of his tendency to underperform for the national team and his lack of exposure in the knockout rounds of the CL but he's just off the back of a superb Euro 2012 so it doesn't really wash any more. He's pretty much at the same level as Carrick, just off the top rung of midfielders.

Nah he's a fantastic defensive mid. I doubt we'll sign him as I think we need a more creative player but he'd still be a very good addition nevertheless. I think he'd be an excellent addition for City if they went for him.

Yeah I could agree with that assessment, but according to many on the Caf he's one of the best midfielders around, which in my mind he quite clearly isn't. Half of it for me isn't so much a lack of exposure in the knockout rounds of the CL but actually being exposed at that stage of the competition.

To my mind, he is not one of the best around and has never really looked like kicking on into that level. I wouldn't want him anywhere near us to be honest.

De Rossi has been better than Carrick over their careers IMO, Carrick in 11/12 and 12/13 has been world class but De Rossi has been the better overall player. Around 2005-2008 he was immense.

I agree in Germany 2006 he was well below par despite the huge success for Italy, so the national team accusations have a little bit of merit. But if you remember before that world cup he was preferred to Gattuso in the middle due to his Roma form, he was easily one of the best DM's in the world and started ahead of Gattuso until the sending off. When Gattuso came in he was brilliant and one of the best players in the tournament in the middle with Pirlo, but De Rossi was preferred to him initially IIRC. Then as you say, he was outstanding in Euro 2012, by far the best I have seen him play for Italy, so those criticisms have been somewhat rebutted.

I too would say Carrick's level. But when he was younger he really looked like he was going to go all the way. In 04/05 he was already one of Serie A's best midfielders. He should have left, we where linked with him for a while but it never happened. He seems like a Mourinho signing experienced, can contribute immediately and you know what your getting. Though I think Mourinho is going to stay at Chelsea for a while now so he may be looking to youth more.
