Starting to suspect his demand in extra wages is the problem. He's inadvertently put more pressure on himself to perform and it looks to be affecting his mentality, perhaps building up as he makes mistakes. It's seemingly quite similar to what happens to him when he plays for Spain because this isn't the De Gea we know.

I’m sorry but I have noticed United usually got the bad luck of having players dropping form after a contract extension. In this case we got lucky that De Gea has shown himself to be way past it BEFORE a contract extension. If we give him a new contract now, we would got ourselves a new Rooney situation here: Players getting way too much when they are clearly past their peak.

I think a guy that tried to leave on 3 different occasions, really wants to go. Just sell him now. What good is a world class keeper who does not want to be here.
