That tweet that's been retweeted on the RedCafe feed - Leno has had a medical for Madrid?

Honestly that would be fantastic news IF true. There's no way they'd still be looking at DDG for at least a couple more years with Leno, Navas and Casillas. Makes sense too, as Leno is a very talented keeper.

If they have gone for Leno, then surely De Gea has asid to them that he doesn't plan to movie. It would be great if that is the case, because then we can really have De Gea for another 10 years (considering that both Barca and Madrid would have very talented young keepers and won't need him).

Well this is crap. Looking at this thread I was just reminded that a couple of nights ago I dreamt De Gea signed a new deal. But that was just a dream, just a dream, just a dream...

This.

Would be great news if this is true.

Absolutely.

On a side-note, how many good keepers do Germany have?!

Frans Hoek probably has a role in all this, he coached and developed excellent goalkeepers, De Gea probably wants to be the best, he is playing for a club who can be among the best in the 2-3 next years.

Why would he leave ? Not for money, not for trophies, only the location is a good argument.

Not been keeping tabs on this thread. Only just seen Madrid being linked to Leno.

How likely is it Dave will sign a new contract?

Agreed.

A lot of people on here have been talking him up as the best keeper in the league for ages. IMHO he's improved a huge amount between this season and last. Credit is due to Hoek and DDG has always said he idolised VDS. Maybe he's aware how much Hoek has improved his game and wants to keep on improving at his current rate?

Leno not inferior to De Gea? Yep, bullshit. Real putting pressure on De Gea. These bastards know how to use all sort of methods to sign their targets.

Or maybe Big Dave told them to feck off so they're going to act like DDG is just a run of the mill keeper in their papers now.

Yeah, this one seems a bit transparent really. I'd say it's pretty much unimaginable that they won't have a good cut at buying him this summer.

What's the source for the Leno rumours? If true, it's fantastic news.
Think I'll change my vote from no to yes..

Edit: Marca :devil::devil:

How exactly does that put pressure on De Gea? De Gea holds all the cards here; whether he stays or goes, he is under no pressure from anyone.

And pretending that Leno is as good as him, won't be received positively by De Gea, goalkeepers tend to stay where they are, so if you want to sign one you better show him some love.

They put pressure on him to get the decision faster. Leno is a young and good GK. He could establish himself as a top class keeper, that would leave de Gea in Manchester for years. If he wans the move to Madrid, now is his best chance. He would be cheap and b a starter.

Yeah that's how I see it as well.

Well, that would only be true if it was someone like Ronaldo, who had a 'dream' to play for Madrid. No such thing with De Gea.

He has not a dream to play for Madrid, but to go back to Spain eventually. His girlfriend doesnt help. Otherwsie, this article has no sense. Why should Real buy Leno now, they can buy him whenever they want, there is no easier target for them. It is still open, unless de Gea extends the contract. They wont give up on him, thats not Real Madrid. They want the best Spanish players, De Gea fits the bill.

So sudden and the article is rubbish, there is just one interpretation for that. At least thats how i see it.

This has all been one big conspiracy by Real Madrid. They for some reason pushed their best player of last season (either best or top 2) for no sensible reason, they refuse to sell him to PSG, he comes here.
He keeps talking about how he's so sad about leaving Madrid to De Gea and the spanish boys, "he would never leave". Misses his home.
He goes on a terrible run of form, gets sent off in the FA cup. Plays terribly for us reducing our chances of getting into the CL.
Mendes forces Di Maria and De Gea out because no CL.
Real Madrid would get Di Maria back + De Gea for cheap!

Not this time agent Di Maria.

(Leno story is just putting pressure on De Gea.)

For me, his girlfriend is the biggest problem up to this day. Furthermore, I keep myself asking if she has any clue about what it means to support a boyfriend who is a top class professional athlete. So far, she appears as a spoiled girl who dares calling this or that shit without any second thought for his man; she should be ashamed of herself. Can you imagine what would have happened if Victoria Beckham went public and talked shit about Madrid while saying she misses London back in the days?

Speaking of goalkeepers at Real, I'm extremely baffled in the way they are treating Keylor Navas after everything he displayed at the World Cup and then was bought in for very cheap from Levante. And for the record, Real should just STFU this once because they obviously don't know what that would mean for someone who is born and raised 100% Atletico Madrid.

She didn't actually say anything bad about manchester. It was twisted by the press. However, it is a problem that she lives there whilst he is here. It's not as if she is some mega-star (she's going on Eurovision ffs), whereas David actually is.

De Gea is starting to annoy me now. He needs to state his intentions (Behind the scenes if possible) so either he signs a new long term contract or leaves so we can start tapping up a world class keeper to replace him with because we know first hand replacing keepers isn't easy at all.

Even if he signed a new deal last year I would still be open to swapping him for Bale anyway tbh.

The majority of players really don't care about playing for rivals, Mitten did a survey not too long ago.

Edit:
Also if De Gea wants to go play for Madrid, be with his girlfriend who he loves, be the undisputed Spain keeper for the next 10-20 years, be at home, etc, I don't fault him. He should at least sign a new contract and put in a big release clause though.

How do you know he hasn't?

 feck me.

I think people are making way too big a deal about his home land and his girlfriend. He made the choice to leave his boyhood club, his girlfriend and Spain behind. He's been here for a few years, if there was a problem with his relationship as it pertains to him being in Manchester, they probably would've broken up by now.

Not saying he won't leave, but if he does leave it would probably have more to do with where we are in our ability to challenge for trophies. Money is important, but the best players want to play for the best clubs and win trophies.

 When's the film coming out?

By now, I would have expected to have his contract sorted out. Perhaps getting 4th place will influence his decision. De Gea leaving would be disastrous and 2 steps back in terms of moving forward to being title contenders again. He is world class, at this particular moment I wouldn't even swap him with Neuer.

Have you ever known the touch of a woman?

Edurne is never in Madrid anyway. Touring Spain, touring Europe etc.

Its plainly obvious to me that he's waiting to see if we get Top 4. If we do then he will probably sign his contract pretty quickly, if we don't get Top 4 then he's gone and its as simple as that for me.

Or is it a rumour to force DDG's hand on wage demands, etc. ?

Although if it is more than a rumour then that's a good thing.

If he really wants to go we should keep an eye out for Yann Sommer. He has been excellent for Gladbach this season. I hadn't seen much of the lad before he joined them as a replacement for ter Stegen but so far I feel he is even better than the one he replaced. With 26 years of age also still at a good age for a GK.

Of course if it's somehow possible we need to keep de Gea because finding someone on his level won't really be easy at all.

Personally, I don't see why DDG would sign atm, he'd be mad to. We were 7th last season, are 4th this year and out both cups. Hardly the most appealing proposition for one of the best GK’s in the world!

The longer he/Mendes holds out, the more he'll make when he does sign in the summer, be that for us or for Real. Although I don't think money is the be all and end all for him here.

If we get top 4 or even second place, I’m pretty confident that he'll sign a new deal as he'll see we're moving in the right direction and with the right investment should be challenging on all fronts in the next year or two. While Real (apparently) will be searching for a new manager for the 3rd time in 3 years.

Also, by signing a new contract, it’s not like Real will be put off, if that's who they want and he/Mendes know that. Real I think are the only team who could justify to their fans spending £60m+ on a keeper. Simply because he's the new national no1 and could give them 10 years of service if they want.

The fact that it's £60m or whatever sounds mental but at the end of the day, looking at shirt sales figures released yesterday, they'd be able to recoup that over the years.

IMO we're paying the price of not tying him down to a longer deal in the summer when Moyes was appointed, but I can see why we/he didn't. Fact is that Woodward will no doubt have been trying to get things agreed in the past 9 months, but DDG and his Agent are making the most of the situation.

Unless I was at my boyhood club, I’d be doing the exact same thing as Dave, regardless of what was offered until I know the lie of the land in the summer.

Getting top 4 shouldn’t be celebrated like a trophy as it was our minimum requirement but what should be celebrated above anything else is “hopefully” securing DDG’s signature for another 5 years.

'We have to qualify for the Champions League, no matter what,' said De Gea.

'We already missed out last season, and a team like Manchester United cannot do that two years in a row.'

'I'm a composed, calm type, which helps me in my profession,' he revealed.

'As a keeper, you need to convey a sense of calm to the rest of the team.

'But, truth be told, English football has changed me a great deal.

'I've developed a lot physically, I have greatly improved my concentration and have generally improved all aspects of my game.

'I was very young when I came here but, four years on, things are very good overall. This league really suits me, as you learn a lot here.'

'Victor Valdes and I work very well together – I'm very happy to be with him,' added De Gea.

'I'm learning so much from him, not just in goalkeeping terms given his immense experience, but also as a person.

'He's a very straightforward guy with a lot of character. Moreover, he's always ready to lend a hand, trying to help out with his advice, especially during games.'
