This is what happens when you don't show you can challenge for the title 2 years in a row. De Gea won't be the only one if we don't start to turn things around next season
That is simply not true as proven by Ronaldo. We were the second most successful side in the world whereas Madrid hadn't gone past the last 16 of the CL in ages. Fact is we simply have to accept for Iberian and South American players, Madrid and Barcelona are more attractive because of the lifestyle, culture, language, weather and so on. There was a reason under Fergie, we rarely shopped there.

I think Sebastien Frey went to Parma for a hefty sum, after they sold Buffon to Juve. Somewhere in the £15m region if I remember correctly.

If he's to insist on a buyout clause in his contract, as is being reported to be his demand - then Madrid could swoop at any time.

I'd hate to have him here with that hanging over us.

Amazing keeper. Would love to have him here for his entire career. However, if he wants Madrid, feck off and make the asking price insane.

Problem is we can't ask for huge sums, he will be within the last 12 months of his contract in the summer it will be accept this £15m or we sign him for free in 12 months (pre contract in January as well).

I hope that's a poor attempt at sarcasm.

Let's call it halfway. I only want players on our team who will die every day for the shirt. If your ambitions are to go elsewhere then I care less for you than the stray dog across my street. Understand? It isn't hard.

You seem like a pleasant chap.

I'm not sure I understand. If, and this remains a big IF, he forces a move to Madrid..you wanna give the guy a *golfclap* and just act like he behaved well and was good for us for a couple years and wish him the best? This is competitive, high end sports. Lots of money is involved. I ONLY want players who will do anything for Manchester United. If you think you would rather be playing elsewhere, then you are no longer on our squad and can die in a fire. Softness will only beget softness.

Good retort :D

Seriously though, I do have some sympathy for @WyoManU - I'm just not as extreme. To a certain extent I miss the old days where team loyalty seemed to matter more than it does now. One club men are so rare now, but not long ago we had Scholes, Giggs and Neville and although they were academy products and locals - you could tell they cared for United, supported us.

Not like the mercenaries of today who will leave for a 10% pay rise. I do have a lot of respect for Jack Wilshere, who said he'd never leave Arsenal regardless of mega money offers or where his team are in the league. Is supporting the team you play for so hard?

Edit: ...and to clarify, of course not everybody can be a one club player, and of course transfers are all part of the game. It's just we've given big Dave a real home at United, idolised him as arguably our best player, loved him, paid him well, given him a chance to be a United legend. It would be disappointing if he moved to Real Madrid.

What is funny is that I am not die hard nearly as much as other Americans. I work in business and I can see the way a lot of Euro companies do business. Soft hands. Big smiles. Happy faces. Meanwhile, others eat your lunch. This is a tough world. Once you own up to that reality, we can move forward as a club and rise again to the top.

Also, I would take a full squad of youth players who would do anything for the shirt any day, and worry all season about relegation, as long as they loved the club and never wanted to go anywhere else. Any..day...

What retorts do you give to the pleasant chap saying he wants people to die in a fire because they left the club?

Maybe I'm the only one, but it seems like you're all over the shop here.

High end, competitive sports, but you'd settle for a youth squad battling relegation.
Know how those big companies rise to the top? Paying the best employees, the best salaries. And maybe a few company men thrown in there too.

All over the shop? Not sure what that means but I can guess. You don't understand me. So many of you are soft. Some guy plays for us for a few years and demands a transfer and you want to give him a happy send off. I know EXACTLY how those big companies rise to the top. I said from my very first statement that I want more than anything for DDG to stay with us for his entire career. He is a top 3 keeper in the world. So, before you jump into an argument halfway and act like you know the entire story, read all the posts.

I stick by my statement. IF, and only IF...he demands a transfer, do I wish him less than a stray dog.

I don't need to take advice from you on "when to jump into an argument". All the comments I quoted were made right there, and the parts I responded to were the parts I responded to. I don't need to dig through other posts to comment on you wanting people burned in a fire because they left the club.

We can have a discussion without it being an argument. Although judging by your responses so far, maybe we can't.

:)

Maybe not...

I'll let you get back to complaining about the manager, the formation, and the players now.

Sorry to keep you away :)

I've complained about all of them. But I am sure you know that. Am I supposed to be abashed? I'm not sure what your angle is. I stand by every word I have said. You just bring up my words.

We're having a discussion on an online forum. All we have is words. And sometimes amusing gif's.

Sigh. I tried softness. You are just looking for a fight. Let me try another tack...IF DDG demands a transfer to Madrid (or anywhere but MU), how should we respond? YOU tell me.

Reported by the Mirror.

They know nothing. It's toilet paper drivel.

We don't do release clauses, and De Gea doesn't want one either.

Calm down big fella haha

That's literally the last thing I'm looking for.

If players play for us, and then they leave, they leave. If they were an important part of our team, and end up leaving, I'll be grateful for the time they gave to us. How many players recently have been one club players? Unless they leave us and badmouth us, I don't wish them ill will. Tevez and Heinze are examples of players who were cnuts after they left. Ronaldo, Beckham, Ruud...are examples of players who did great things for the club, and left. I appreciate their service to the club.

I am perfectly calm. Enjoying a lovely evening with my wife and 16 month old daughter. Gorgeous night. Snow on the way. If you disagree, then by all means state why. IF not, please don't react to my state of mind. It's simple. I am seeking a team who wants to play for MU. Is that so hard to understand?

Always grey in every shade of black and white. I also appreciate what DDG has done for the club *and desperately want him to stay as I have said many times). And Becks...Ruud...Ronaldo...by that argument you should also be happy with Tevez and Heinze, as they contributed to our club. I want the players who want a lifetime. Ronaldo was great, but he left and is nowhere near Giggs, Scoles, etc, in terms of club history and reverence. Is it really so wrong to want players who want United for life?

I stated why I'm not pleased with Heinze and Tevez, and their conduct while at the club, and after they left. There's a clear difference between players that angled for a move to our biggest rival, and one who holds up an RIP FERGIE sign...and players like Ronaldo and Becks who have only ever said good things about the club since they left.

Nothing wrong with wanting players who are proud to wear the shirt. But you also need to be realistic...the way the modern game is, it's highly unlikely.

Can't remember where I saw it, but i'm sure LVG said his contract would be handled after the transfer window was shut.

I still have faith he'll sign it.

I think a club as massive as MU should dictate what the modern game is. Anyway, it really doesn't answer the question at all. I don't know what the difference is between a player that angled for a move and held up sign about Fergie Out and those that angled for a move out and then claimed they still loved the club. Great, Ronaldo left the club and still loves it...but now we have Young and not Ronaldo.

You don't see a difference?

It's kind of the same difference between a fan saying "Thanks Ronaldo" after he helped us win trophies, and then moved on, and a fan saying "hope you burn in a fire Ronaldo" because he left.

I will judge any player by what they did when they played for us. Ronaldo was one of the best. Once you have asked to leave, then I don't care much any more. I feel like I am defending myself from being a fan of Manchester United players who wanted to play for Manchester United.....very odd.

Not defending yourself from being a fan. But 4 different people have all thought it odd that you wished injury, and a fiery death to De Gea if he leaves.

Let me ask you a very serious and honest question...do you REALLY think I want DDG to die a fiery death? FFS. The politically correct universe and the cosmos of literal context are in full force. How can anyone express themselves on the internet...*facepalm*

Not saying such stupid things would be a good start for you ;)

Are you serious? You don't answer any question posited DIRECTLY to you. All you do is take a statement out of real context (ie internet chat forums) and try to procure it as unassailable madness (ie I want people to ACTUALLY die in a fire), and stand there and act smart and intelligent. IF you have anything of import to add to the argument, please do.
