Owen to United is probably comparable. Right through the Liverpool academy, leaves them to move to a big club, then leaves the big club to go to their biggest rival.

Id rather not have been reminded of that!

It would be extremely annoying to have our best player picked off by RM for the second time in six years. But with the Valdes signing, I am increasingly pessimistic. Unless he really is a die hard Atleti type a la Torres, it's not really a difficult decision for him - better team (with wages probably similar), his home town and greater visibility in terms of becoming Spain's no.1.

For all the talk about RM, maybe he decides to join Atletico this or next summer if both parties want it?

Nah, Atletico still aren't a sure thing at the top. They could well fall behind once Simeone goes and he will go sooner rather than later IMO.

Pretty obvious that the two main factors in this contract renewal are whether we qualify for the CL (De Gea's perspective) and whether Falcao gets his permanent move (Mendes' perspective). Mendes has made that very obvious by speaking so much about Falcao recently and then "hinting" at De Gea's future being up in the air. That slimy piece of shit is by far the biggest obstacle in all of this.

Until those two things are resolved there won't be any progress. But provided we qualify for the CL I'm absolutely certain he will renew, if only with the intention of staying for another season or two.

People need to stop being under the delusion that we're throwing contract offers at him and he's ignoring them/throwing them back. Until the two aforementioned questions are answered no progress can be made.

Moronic tabloid hacks are taking this impasse as a cue to write these stories and basing them on his "desire to return to Madrid" (for the club he grew up hating) or his "desire to be closer with his gf" (who he'd see little more of even if he did live in Madrid given how career driven she is). The Mirror and the Daily-whatever are essentially toilet paper in terms of the value of their "sources" (they have none).

We all talk about Mendes and how much power he holds. But ultimately it will come down to DDG. If he wants to stay how can Mendes make him move?

He will end up in Spain one day, that is clear. Let's just hope we can prolong our stay at OT for as long as possible. I think he's waiting to see if we qualify for the CL

He can't, he can just hold up the deal and try to put pressure on us to buy Falcao.

It's easy for him to do that at this moment in time when the question of CL football next season still hasn't been answered, because it's probably pretty key to De Gea that he plays in it next season.

Important thing is that Mendes putting all these quotes in the press is basically absolute proof that that is what he is up to.

But ultimately it's down to De Gea? Surely he can make up his own mind. He's not some illiterate waif found in a favela who has ended up with some kind of indentured labour contract.

This is what I don't get, what business is it of Mendes which club he plays for? What difference does it make to De Gea whether we buy Falcao or not? If his agent is really using this sort of bullshit on his client, he clearly needs a new agent.

It's a lot more difficult to go straight from Atletico to Real, so if he has Real ambitions it would be odd for him to move to the rival club. Fans would probably accept it either way at the moment; but if he jumped from one to the other a couple of years down the line, would probably cause greater ructions. Would clearly be a club prestige thing not a wanting to move to home city thing, which a move this summer to Real could still be spun as.

Plus it doesn't make sense for him to return to Atletico, he has already been there and as a move for a footballer they still represent a step down from United even though their team is much stronger at the minute (given the difference in financial power it has to sway other way eventually).

I think he will go, which will be a massive shame, but we have to hope that United get the best deal for him.
There are other keepers out there and we have to hope that we are a stronger team next year and not so reliant on the brilliance of DDG agin.

He is only his agent because we set him up with him! that's the funny part

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has revealed he would like to play in the MLS in the future.

Your move David.

Some Italian twitter account (sport media set) with 230k followers tweeted that he's renewed until 2020! Hope its true.

FTD retweeted it, but I think it might be just the Italian twitter account trying to get attention. There is no reason for them to know anything.

Would absolutely love it more than anything.

Don't see how they would know though.
It's clearly because Italy are an hour ahead of us and their news embargo has already been lifted.Cue massive celebrations in 23 minutes.

Can't see how an Italian site would have that info before English or Spanish.

He's going nowhere for the time being. The club didn't invest £18m for a young keeper to let him go at 24.
