I'd say it's partly due to his girlfriend being so hot.
Nope! it's mainly because HE is so hot!

Tbf in the last 2 months he only has 12 pics and only 1 of them is of his gf when he congratulated her on her birthday!

Yes, I remember, that was a great ten minutes for me.

EDIT: Ok, ok, seven minutes.

I still reckon he'll be gone either this summer or the summer after. To me the timing of this arriving so soon after Valdes suggests - and I'm fully prepared for people to call me crazy - that this is a move designed to maximise his value, probably with the same sort of "One more year" promise that Ronaldo got.

Hopefully I'm wrong, obviously.

He reached 1 million followers on Instagram, puts up a post thanking his followers and some members go into meltdown

Jaysus, brophs, you're a real ray of sunshine this season with your Hererra and Dave both gone in the summer stuff!

You're right, of course. The contract is neither here nor there. With Ronaldo being the obvious precedent, even to the extent of him ending up at De Gea's most likely destination. With hindsight, Ronaldo signing that contract was one of the initial steps in granting him the move he was angling for. If Dave signs an extension it could be the exact same process all over again.

I'm gonna remain optimistic that he's enjoying life here and will be here for another few years. It's what I do. Keeps me sane.

That's not a good thing, we gave him too much, too soon.

Valdes will be gone the summer after next, doesn't add up does it? Also, he is not Ronaldo ffs.

I'm feeling a bit at ease because of short contract of Valdes.

The short term contract of Valdes is neither here nor there either.

I'm sure the club want to see how his knee holds up for a bit longer before committing to a long term contract. They can always extend it in 6 months time if it looks like big Dave is off (and Valdes looks to be getting back near his best)

Similar age, arguably the best player in the world in his position, potentially sought after by Real Madrid. There are more similarities than differences tbh.
True. The only upside being that Ronaldo was pushing for a move there for years whereas DDG has never seemed to do the same, and also the fact that he is an Atletico product, which is a huge deal in Spain.

Neur is the best in the world, not De Gea. There are hardly any similarities. You lot are paranoid, and still clearly can't get over Ronaldo.

 it has nothing to do with getting over Ronaldo or not. Where on earth are you getting that from?

Also you can easily say Messi was the best in the world at the time Ronaldo moved, so that's hardly relevant.

Good point about Neuer but there are obvious similarities regardless.

Of course the important difference is that De Gea hasn't been acting the maggot about being a slave and stuff.

I've spent too long doing up this fecking house. My optimism has long been turned into those little bits of sweetcorn you shit out. Hope he stays for a long time, though, obviously enough.

18 months with the option for a further year, isn't it? Plus if he's in the team renewing him at that age would be straightforward at that stage. I think it was Ogden who called Valdes an "insurance policy" yesterday. Hopefully that insurance won't be needed.

BEcause he is CONSTANTLY compared to RONALDO, have you not noticed that trend in here?

The only similarities are age and skill. Nothing more.

He'd be 34, no chance he'd be suitable for us. He's a back up.

He's not specifically compared to Ronaldo as a player though, merely the situations are similar, that's all. You can't help but draw comparisons in those circumstances.

What I would say is that the situation with DDG is far less bleak, which most have acknowledged. Everyone was basically resigned to Ronaldo being gone at one point or another, I'd say the numbers are far, far lower with DDG.

Indeed. At 34, VdS was still a year away from signing for us.
That was Van der Sar who was much better than Valdes.

He'd be as suitable as VdS was at that age.
Again, as stated before. He's not Van Der Sar, just because he's joined us doesn't mean we have to inflate how good Valdes is. He's nowhere near VDS's level with us.

And the fact his most likely destination if he leaves would be Real Madrid.

So apart from his age, his skill and his likely destination if he leaves you're right. Not remotely similar.

What did the Romans do for us anyway?
He could easily join PSG or any other oil rich club.

He'd be as suitable as VdS was at that age.

Valdes has had a recent serious injury though. Let's see if it impacts him in anyway.

I don't see De Gea leaving this summer. He will also sign a contract. Not hopeful of him being with us forever but he will not leave so soon. He is our team transfer muppet who got the Spanish contingent here ffs :(

I'm not inflating how good he is. I've never thought him top class, or suitable for this league. But my opinion doesn't matter. I'm quite clearly speaking to LVG's/the club's view of the player. Plus, as Pogue said, VdS was at Fulham, having had a tough time at Juve when we signed him. Valdes was last at Barca, arguably the best club side in a long time, if not ever.

Well, quite. I've said dozens of times on here that our reliance on players recovering fro, or with a long history of injuries, troubles me. The game is becoming more and more physically demanding.

Really? I thought was flipping excellent in his last couple of seasons with Barca.

I thought he was really suited to the way Barca played and was, without doubt, a really good goalkeeper. I felt he made quite a few errors and, more importantly for me, was/is really poor under a high ball. In fairness, I felt he was extremely solid in the last season or two when I saw him, but even then he never inspired confidence in the way that someone like VdS did, or Cech prior to his injury.

Different kind of a goalkeeper. I don't think Valdes is going to age particularly well, certainly not as well as van der Sar.

Yeah, agree with this. Valdes relies on his reflexes a lot more than Van der Sar did.
