Day 7: Portugal vs Morocco, Uruguay vs Saudi Arabia and Iran vs Spain

Caught the last 30 minutes of Uruguay/Saudi Arabia. fecking from what I saw. Lack of ambition by Saudi Arabia was puzzling.

Yes, this was much worst. There were barely shots in this match. It's really unbeliavable.
Agree, but still wouldn't like to face Uruguay.
You didn't enjoy watching another Santos masterclass? :wenger:
2 things.

The first when Cristiano was leaving at half time and said to him we aren't playing nothing and the other was him blaming the players like he has nothing to do with the lack of the ideas this team has with him for 4 years.

After the shithousing from Portugal and Uruguay today we now have to put up with the worst of the worst - Iran.

I mean what did Santos expect with a 34 year old centre back who plays in China and a past it brainless Pepe. Recipe for disaster.
The problem isn't that. Its lack of offensive organization, he is there since 2014 and has been always like that.

I am not saying it should be like that, but bar Spain, maybe Germany or Brasil, with some expectations from France, England or Mexico it will not be much different than this to reach the last stages. Hopefully I am wrong.
Maybe this tournament can change things up but it's been this way for a while since Euro 2000, maybe Euro 2008 the exception.

Shit games today.
Here come Spain with their 80% possession and 1-0

Do you enjoy 1-0 scorelines? Games with 4-6 goals in them please me no end. I do enjoy a proper goal fest, me.
Some people on here believe that goal come from errors and prefer football without errors so prefer goalless draws. Crazy if you ask me.

What does that mean?

England have flaws but we aren't like that.
Yup, but the other teams don't have to be like England to progress in the competition. Uruguay or Portugal play 1 way and England plays their way. This is a WC, different styles of football.

I enjoyed the Portugal-Morocco match. Wasn't bad at all.
Morocco played really well, they just lack the final touch, hopefully Renard stays with them for the future.

Hopefully not. Maybe if they end with 3 defeats and no goals we can convince him to manage us instead of the Argentinian trash managing us currently. :D

Yeah of course, that's what makes it interesting. I still think it's fair to comment on how shit it can be though to see teams with 11 men behind the ball for 80% of the game. Especially the gamesmanship we're seeing, Tunisia the other night were infuriating for example.

I've no doubt if we end up meeting Spain of course we'll park the bus ourselves. Or we should do anyway.

You don't like Cuper then? It was always going to get difficult without Salah on the first match.

I don't defend that type of game, but only a few teams seem able to play a more possession or well connected counterattacking style like Mexico did.

Its just different playing well than progressing during the knockout stages. Actually feel England will grow during the competition. Just depends on the nature of the opponent they face when they reach the last 16.

So if Iran win they are through and Spain have to beat Morocco and hope Portugal lose or draw to Iran.

Draw puts Spain on 2, Iran on 4, Portugal on 4. Iran loss puts Iran on 3, Spain on 4, Portugal on 4.

Interesting group for sure. All 3 teams have to slug it to the end to qualify.

I didn't misunderstand you. You were trying to "normalize" a stereotypical joke by claiming "the masses" use it so it should be okay.

Man GTFO you totally misunderstood me. My intention was actually to show him how unfunny and unoriginal it was.

If Spain wins today means Portugal at least needs a point from Iran. Lets see how Iran plays today.

Is it sexist of me to not like women commentary, this woman’s screechy voice is going through me
Had to turn it off. Watched it on German TV instead. BBC filling quotas and keeping the PC brigade happy. Women's voices do not suit sports commentary because they are too high pitched and so it becomes annoying. I can't believe anyone who enjoys watching football would enjoy listening to her commentary.

Maybe its because he was Fergie's last signing even though Moyes sanctioned it. I once had high hopes for him.
I did too, until I watched him play. He didn't grow at all while he was here and was pretty poor in his first team appearances. Despite that people were still trying to say he was our best right back. It was weird.

Having a female commentator isn't "filling quotas" ffs.

I also remember people saying Buttner was a better leftback than Evra! The really shit players get flushed out real quick.

I would be among those people. I could watch teams like Atletico all day. That doesn't mean I can't enjoy good attacking play, quite the opposite. I just can't be bothered with games where both sides aren't defending properly. If I think back about the best games I have seen, almost all of them were low scoring.

Uruguay vs Portugal is very a possible second round tie. Has 0-0 all over it. They have the players who can score at will, but they won't take risks. Irritating. It's understandable agaisnt good teams, but why would they fear Saudi Arabia? They have shown nothing to suggest they are dangerous. They pass the ball around with no end product, they seemed to refuse to shoot, like Arsenal.

As expected, second round of games a bit more cagey. Too much at stake to go all out for the majority of teams left in the competition.

You don't like Cuper then? It was always going to get difficult without Salah on the first match.

Cuper plays a defensive game, but doesn't defend well or play a proper counters. He simply tells the players to stay back and that's it. I understand we have a poor quality, but at least train the players on how to do a good offensive transition on the counters instead of this rubbish.

All part of Santos masterplan, baiting opponents into thinking they're shit before unleashing The One True Eder on them
