Day 6 | Croatia vs Albania | Germany vs Hungary | Scotland vs Switzerland

Gundogan doesn't seem to fit in this team.

Love Modric but you can definitely see that pretty steep decline finally taking hold now.

The Turkey-Georgia game was the antithesis of that yesterday. But otherwise yeah, I'd expect that to be the case in the group stages.

Germany seems to be doing better breaking down those low blocks.

Musiala and Wirtz playing between the lines and have the ability to do so. Kroos orchestrating from deep, playing those vertical, line breaking passes which allows them to actually be more direct and create chances instead of pinging it back and forth.

Havertz hasn't been bad and he's useful in the air, but Mittelstadt is getting so much room to hit crosses that I wonder if Fullkrug will come on early in the 2nd half.

Havertz is much better in tight spaces than Füllkrug. It makes a lot of sense to use Havertz in the starting lineup and then sub on Füllkrug when the opposition starts to tire and some spaces open up for him. If anything they are maybe playing a few hopeful crosses too many.

I think for the goal the big difference for me was that Orban wasn't in control of the ball. If Orban is in control of the ball and Gundogan charges into him than it's a foul 99% of time but it was a free ball both going towards it shoulder to shoulder and Orban trying to block the path. Very understandable that no foul was given there.

We've been okay, compared to the Switzerland game at least, though the Germans have taken firm control in the last ten minutes or so.

Shame about the stupid goal. Also about the offside rule. They should have just turned it off for the last minute.
I think once you crossed the midfield line you've played very good football, just sitting a bit deep so far.

Like the look of this Germany side, definitely play some of the best football of the top sides in the tournament.

That's a very subjective matter, and the choice weighs a lot considering the historic reasons which lead to it.

Your opinion and nothing else.

Green away for Germany was simply the choice of unimaginative DFB officials not wanting to offend anyone. It's not representative of Germany in any way shape or form and a terrible choice of away colours for their national team.

You're free to state "well, that's just your opinion" and be dismissive as you want but all it does is detract from your argument.

Green kits are shite. You're welcome to like them but for a sport played on grass they're a ridiculous choice.

You mean the player who assisted the 1-0?

But in all seriousness Gündogan and his role has probably be the most discussed position in Germany (besides the Neuer/ter Stegen discussion of course).

He has the thankless task to balance the play in a way that Kroos, Wirtz and Musiala around him can express themselves and that often means that he can't be as involved as everybody may expect.

Absolute nonsense. That was nowhere even approaching shoulder to shoulder.

I picked Germany at the start but I'm a bit concerned by the lack of a mullet in the line up .

Rudiger makes overly ambitious decisions with the ball in attack, but his technique is good enough that it does often cause problems.

We still look to vulnerable if someone really presses our defense. Even Kroos making mistakes now.

I think he makes a lot of sense in the group stage, but in bigger games where Germany have the ball less he might need to be sacrificed for Sane.

Havertz has been absolutely wank on the ball. Terrible touch and can't weight his passes at all.

Sane didn't look great recently. And I do like the idea of Gündogan defending more against tougher teams than Sane likely would.

Havertz was alone in the box several times now where we could have done with some additional mass.

Weird comment after 3 very good half's from him this tournament so far.
Bizarre comment
Less of the pile on, lads.

It’s madness from him NT coach to play him so much. He’s 38. The reason he still performs for Madrid is that they use him in smaller doses

It's a tough one, because you probably do need a 3rd midfielder in with Kroos, but Germany seem more vulnerable out wide and Sane does pin back the winger/wingback on his side. Also I think more room for Musiala and Wirtz to combine inside (they don't need much) could make them more dangerous.

Love the German subs. Now waiting for it to backfire.
Would have preferred it the other way around today. Bringing on the pace when hungary is already somewhat tired and also more desperate to try risky play.

I can see that, but to me Havertz was bad and Wirtz a passenger.
