Day 5: Germany vs. Portugal

This was standart Muller procedure. He is the same in the Bayern matches i watch. Always flapping around and shouting at other players and refs. If it was a portuguese player you would quickly point to the antics. He is an "artist" just like Pepe. Being 24 perhaps he can change his ways but Pepe is a lost cause.
He isn't even close to being the same as Pepe. Being a violent thug is very different to being a bit cnutish on the field. Müller doesn't even dive or something like that, his reaction was simply a bit over the top.

Nani was Portugal best player today(not that it saying a lot) ,what are people on?

Tsk Tsk, don't you know it's fashion to degrade Nani, regardless of his performance?

How dare you talk sense rather than jump on some bandwagon. :nono:

Ronaldo wasn't 100% fit and was playing through pain www.fansided.com/2014/16/cristiano-ronaldo-will-play-pain-vs-germany/. So, you can't expect him to running at full speed which is his trait.
Even at that, he was economical on the ball and wasn't losing possession cheaply and considering Portugal were down to 10 men.

Gosh, anyone sick of this excuse? he played the whole game despite it been over at halftime.. that excuse doesn't wash.

He even said himself he's fit.

I just knew this would be trotted out if Portugal and Ronaldo flopped. What will it be in 2018 in Russia?

I was saying regarding antics. Muller isn´t obviously a thug but he is a diver. Seen it plenty of times. And his reaction was clownish. I analyze things fairly. Pepe deserved to be sent off and Muller was a clown for his antics.

Carvalho needs to start for Portugal against the USA

Germany just needs to carry on what they are doing.

Paulo Bento said in the press conference that Coentrão has a muscular injury and that Coentrão will probably only return if we make it past group stages

I think Ronaldo will shine against USA and Ghana, so for people to blame his injury on him not shining today is kind of funny because it will be forgotten about.

That's positive news tbh, I thought he'd miss the whole tournament.

Diving and playacting are two different things though. If you take a look at the greatest offensive players in the world almost everyone is a playacter at times, but not necessarily a diver.

Müller is always falling really soft and that wasnt a red card, but I really dont know why anybody tries to slaughter him for this situation.
Pepe hits him (yellow) with his arm, he falls down and holds his head. Thats surely not necessary and over the top, but also hardly special. If Pepe doesnt go head-to-head he doesnt get red.

Rihanna

Didn't know she was a football fan? World Cup is bringing out all the big A List Hollywood stars.

They're friends.

Obviously. But Pepe goes head to head and there is certainly contact. Clearly red.

Red seemed harsh in the sense that you often see yellow for those, but I really don't want to find any excuses for Pepe.

I wasn't expecting us to play so bad, felt a strong lack of fiber and ability to adapt to adversity. Way too easy for Germany.

If the stuff about Ronaldo having his own suite separate from the team is true, then it serves them right. Panto villain stuff really. It makes the manager look weak and mentally undermines the rest of the team. Sillyness.

Mate if you read my post i´m not slaughtering him. I´m just saying he acted like a clown with his antics. That aside he is great player. Ref gave Pepe the red for the head to head and i agree with his decision. No excuses for Pepe and with his reputation of course the ref would show him the red card. He is such a brainless player. It´s a shame because ability wise he is one of the best that we have

Is that true?

Bento should be sacked, hes the weakest international manager.

Portugal players didn't like Queiroz because he was too strong now they employed a puppet in Bento who let's them get away with murder and let's Jorge Mendes decides the team/squad.

So what exactly did people expect from Ronaldo when he plays with a team of jokers with 10 men against a world class team... dribble through their whole team by himself? Score a 60 yarder?

Messi was just as selfish and rubbish with far better team mates against a nothing team.

Pepe and Coentrao were both poor. Them being suspended/injured is a good thing. Bento needs to take his balls out and drop all the players who performed shit. Not even Ronaldo should be an automatic starter for next game because he was so poor against Germany. TEAM >>>>>>>> Individual. Ronaldo should keep his place in the side, but play as the striker, not as one of the creative players. Ronaldo is a striker, he scores goals, he is not a strong TEAM player, so just stick him up front and feed him chances to score. Don't look to him to create for average players like Almeida.

We will have to disagree in that mate. I consider Muller a diver who also does some play acting. Not that it should bother you after a 4-0 victory

My thoughts:
1. Löw got the tactics spot on. Maybe he is not as clueless as everyone is saying...
2. Pepe is an idiot. If Portugal fail to advance it would be his fault.
3. Ronaldo is such a primadona. One decent free kick in 90 minutes is not enough if you want to be recognized as the best in the world.
4. Nani was involved in the most dangerous situations, but as we know he is terribly frustrating. Lack of game time this season shows.
4. Müller is a good shout for the golden boot.
5. The false 9 system is not dead - the Germans not only make it work, but make it exciting by eliminating the boring tiki-taka stuff.
6. Ronaldo's free kick technique (used by Bale and others as well) might not be as productive with this ball.

7 of 10 Germans stand behind Löw. He is very well liked. The haters came after 2012. 3 tries, 1 final, 3 semis and he is an idiot. They are idiots.
He is a great coach, built that team and gets his changes mostly spot on. And every 2 years we are ready and rock.
Dont listen to the haters.

P.S. Müller has as much WC goals as Maradona.

Yeah he's definitely a gread defender if he keeps his cool. But as a teammate I would be extremly pissed of right now. He let his team down massively.

This nonsense was addressed a few posts back. Go and have a look.

They're a better team than Portugal, whatever the result was today, as their performances the past few years have shown.

Whether they can get stop being the Arsenal of International football under Loew remains to be seen.

These competitions are brutal in that there is one winner and everyone else gets criticized.

No, Low hasn't been able to get Germany a Euro or WC title, but they've been one of the best 3 teams the entire time he's been manager.

I'll admit he's not perfect, but I find the criticism to be pretty extreme. Sure there are a small handful of managers that might do better, like Ancelotti, but he's not coming is he?

I understand German fans are very passionate and they're going to look for weaknesses and wish for them to be strengthened. But as a neutral I think Low deserves a lot of credit for how Germany play.

I think Nani was Portugal's best player today as well. He had some terrible passes at times, but also some very good ones. Pretty much what I expected from him, good but inconsistent. Ronaldo didn't look fit to be honest, even though he claimed he was. It's pretty obvious that Portugal can be seen as one dimensional at times, relying so heavily on Ronaldo. When he's not fit and on form, this is the kind of thing that happens. They were not helped by the Pepe redcard. It was pretty clearcut in my opinion.

Germany played fantastic for most the game. There were a few times when the defense looked shaky and weak, but overall a great game. Müller certainly had an outstanding game.

Portugal haven't produced a top striker but everytime I watch Ronaldo that's all I see him doing is score goals, he would be perfect for that role can't be much worse.

I don't think that I have seen him dive in my life but if you can prove me wrong go for it. I'm not a Bayern fan by the way, so I'm not a Müller fan or something.
