I don't think he's gonna start, probably Muller/Gotze as a false 9

Germany starting 11 doesn't look that impressive.
Is it me or does that Germany team look pretty average? no Schweinsteiger, Gotze, Ozil or Reus (albeit through injury)
yes, but except Kroos and Lahm they are injured or not 100% fit. And because of Portugals deadly counter attacks it's vital to have a fully fit DM.
In the next games the line up will be different, I think.

I'm surprised to see Lahm start in midfield with the quality Portugal have on the wings.
That formation would be very sad. There's zero creativity in that team. 3 headless runners in Khedira, Podolski and Schürrle, one smart runner in Müller, 2 CMs who are great at ball retention but don't excel in the final 3rd in Kroos and Lahm and four!!! centerbacks.
I think the tactic is to wear Portugal out in the hot weather with 80% humidity.
Schürrle, Müller and Podolski can do that.
After 60 Min they can sub in Götze, Özil, Klose or Schweinsteiger. Whoever is needed.

Swap out Müller for Özil and you have probably the worst team Germany could realistically field.I'm not a big fan of Lahm in midfield, that's why I asked, I think he's better at fullback. I thought Schweinsteiger was fit?
The biggest problem for me is that he wants to force Lahm in Midfield. I would put him up against Ronaldo or Nani.
Lahm is great at both RB and LB.
Höwedes just isnt a LB and not good enough on that stage.

No natural full backs and shit wingers is not a good combo for Germany there, very average team.
A very ordinary team for Germany. They seem firm favourites in bookies but I reckon I'm going to lay them at 2.02 at Betfair because they don't really look better than Portugal there on paper for me. People will probably realise that soon and they'll jump up to 2.2 or more soon.
Howedes or Boateng will have plenty of trouble with Ronaldo. Obviously it's still Germany, they could field a team of youngsters and remain favourites but as things stand Portugal should be at least able to hold them out to a draw.

Its so bad. We could have field such a great team with Schweinsteiger, Reus and Klose being 100%. Add to that Özil in normal form and i would like our chances.

Schweini may be without pain and is fit in the physical sense, but he is surley not fit enough to play 90 minutes. So Lahm will start in DM and Schweini will probably get subbed on for Khedira.
Besides, Boateng ist quite capable to defend Ronaldo. He did it before and can do it again. Especially against a Ronaldo who is not in his best form either, due to injuries.
In the next games this can change, but against Portugal I like this approach.

This eleven would be amazing. But it would be too offensive. Switch Kroos out for either Khedira or Lahm (and Boateng or Großkreutz RB then).

Even if it's not the line up, with all the injuries there's not really a lot else that can be done. Leave Khedira out and play Schweinsteiger perhaps. Leave Podolski out and play Götze or Özil. That's all we have left when it comes to the top level. That said, Khedira, Podolski, etc aren't really top level.
This portugal team are the real dark horses in this tournament.
