Day 3 | Poland vs Netherlands | Slovenia vs Denmark | Serbia vs England

Was in a bar in Heidelberg last night and lots of German, Scottish and Danish fans all getting along fine until the booze really starts flowing and a few embarrassing scuffles play out. Be interesting to see how it goes in the US in 2026 where this level of open drinking is so constrained.

The nervous emoji needs to be brought back to demonstrate how I feel about fights breaking out in the US with mass crowds....

Correct me if I'm wrong but they may not be Albanian 'fans' that have gone to Germany to watch their team. I think (and someone in Germany will know better) that like in England, there's a sizeable amount of ethnic Albanians that live and work in Germany, in that case it would be quite hard to do anything about.
Yeah, there’s a huge Albanian diaspora in Germany. Was in the Ruhr region yesterday and there were loads and loads of them on the way to the game.

We also have a lot of Italians, so was certainly surprised to see the stadium mostly red yesterday

Well I'm sure there's more than a couple Albanians living in Germany, but I think the odds that locals would randomly muster a group of 20-30 people and meet up to attack some football fans is significantly lower than this being organized fans, who have some experience travelling as a group.

You are not wrong, but nonetheless there will be a lot more there for the match. So it indeed is not that smart to schedule Albanian and Serbian games this close to each other.

The fan zone is next to Reeperbahn, so yes, definitely football fans nearby. Hammer and Molotov cocktail is a pretty standard afternoon at Silbersackstrasse though…
Hehehe. The hookers might make a good profit tonight.

I mean regardless of whether that is actually true or some English spin, it's a bit silly that Bundesliga never schedules Dortmund and Schalke for home games on the same day, yet the organizers put Serbs and Albanians two RE stops away from each other, when they could have put 800km between them for good measure.

I second this. I am in a hotel at Dusseldorf with my father, there are a lot of Albanians here. There were tensions earlier today when they heard us talk.

Thank god we leave for Munich tomorrow, if I had to stay here for 10 days, Id just sell my tickets and feck off home.

Also I saw some footage of the Italian broadcast and it's kind of funny to see that their reporter is standing at the most random corner of the city imaginable.

Dortmund - Google Maps

I mean they could have at least walked 5 minutes to the football museum..it just seems lazy.

This is a niche complaint.

The reason I posted that was I've seen some videos online claiming that the Serbian fans were attacked by 'locals'.

It's not a complaint at all, they can stand in front of a garbage can for all I care. I rather find it bemusing, because it seems so incredibly low effort for a professional broadcast from a big nation.

Your guess is as good as mine, but I imagine some English dude would have no way of telling "German" Albanians from "Albanian" Albanians.

Chiellini crushing English hopes: "I really don't think they're better than last time"
I would say that he might be right. Goalkeeper, defenders and central midfield are not that good at all. Lot of overrated players. I wouldn't be surprised if England don't go further from this group.

Oh I fully get it. They had a short look at the city and just thought "feck it, this is as good as it gets" and afterwards did the only right thing: leave Dortmund as fast as they can.

Weird.. Says Hannover under your name..

crazy that it's been 3 years since the Eriksen collapse...ffs i remember watching that like it was yesterday

I'd actually agree with him, this almost feels like a transitional tournament from England's perspective, I really don't think it's as strong a squad as others seem to think.

Love this tournament is just flooded with fans of the teams in the ground.

World cup matches seem to consist of fans of the nations behind a goal and then the other two stands are set aside for corporates and just general sales with those not really interested in the teams so you get flat atmospheres. I'm assuming lower percentage of general sale tickets on offer in the ballots.

Similar to the "Madrid is the perfect city and team to play for" so I'll say it....Germany is the perfect country to host a major tournament given the stadiums, climate, transport system and close proximity to majority of the European nations.

5 times your bet if Sesko and Hojlund combined have 2 or more shots on target. That sounds like easy money?

TBF last time (if he means the Euros) was losing a penalty shoot out in the final. England would take getting to a penalty shoot out in the final again 100%.

I think everyone pretty much agrees England won't be as solid defensively as last few tournaments.
