Day 23: Uruguay vs France and Brazil vs Belgium

Disagree. France have by the far the hardest route any team can take to win the Cup, Argentina, Uruguay, the winner of Belgium/Brazil then probably England/Croatia. They aren't going to meet and weakling in the KO stages but they're still in semi final.

They were pretty rancid in the group. And I don't think they have had to be brilliant to beat Argentina nor so against Uruguay thus far.

They're not all that impressive to watch. And Deschamps is even less impressive.

Thought Tolisso played quite well today. N'Zonzi is a good sub but as others have said I'd take Pogba off just in case he loses his cool.

I hope we get to see WC Pogba with us next season.

France are easily the best side left in the world cup now. It'll be a huge failure if they don't win it outright.

Griezmann brings so much class to the French team, linking midfield and attack.

Those are "big names" but not a true opponent in fact.

Mexico and Portugal's defense were for exemple way better than Argentina's. Spain then Croatia is way more difficult for Russia than France´s route. Uruguay without Cavani is like Colombia without James, the level of the team is like 50%.

So I can't understand the "hardest route by far"

I don't ever want to hear that 'Pogba must play on the left of a midfield three' argument ever again. He has been immense in this tournament except of course in the Australia game where he played.....guess where....in the famed midfield three.

Disappointing 2nd half. Uruguay just threw in the towel after that 2nd goal. Some shades of England - Colombia this game. Not good. France wins. Next.

The hardest route you can have is France's. Regardless of how bad Uruguay or Argentina have been, they are better than all the other countries Brazil, Belgium and England have faced bar perhaps Croatia (who none of the favorites have yet played though).

Uruguay haven’t really turned up at all. Offered very little from the first minute. Been a walk in the park for France.

A midfield two with someone lacking mobility like Matic really won't work though. Most players with a modicum of positional sense can play in a 2 with Kante.

I think people just like saying “midfield” and a number together.

Never seen a player start crying before the game is up

Crying before the final whistle. Never seen it before.
