Day 23: Netherlands vs. Argentina

Holland's biggest threat is Robben and RVP so they knock it around the back and keep the ball as far away from them as possible?? What's that all about

In all fairness their midfield is hardly better than ours as well. Sneijder's best days are past him and de Jong's only strength is in the defensive department while Wijnaldum so far hasn't looked much better than Cleverly.

Yeah. LVG's pulled an SAF or closer to get them to the semis with this mid.

RVP has to come off. It's not working for him actually, barely any service at all.

Messi dossing about, will have a burst after HT then again from 70).

The point is to make Argentina frustrated, make them move forward and wait until they make that 1 mistake and hit them on the counter, score a goal and close the game.

We were spoilt by the game last night, this game is the exact opposite so far. Looks like penalties are on the cards the way it's going.

Usually Holland look shit in the first half. Then when space opens up Robben and Sneijder start to hurt the opposition.

The Dutch really need to find a way to involve Robben if they want to start creating something here. Just stating the obvious there, but I think the plan is for him to find space around Kuyt on the right, but Mascherano is just covering that space too well as it stands, so they need to mix it up a bit.

De Vrij has been the best man on the field in a very carefully played first half.

This is Van Gaal with a poor team. Tactically does what it takes to win. We would be bored watching without this summers additions to free the shackles.

I don't see what Wijnaldum is bringing to the Dutch team aside from an extra body in the middle. His control and distribution is poor.

Argentina have been the better side.

Agreed.

This game could use a clasie in the middle maybe. De Guzman the other option.

Poor stuff from Holland. Robben has done a houdini. Playing way too high, needs to drop deep and pick up the ball. Generally it seems Van Gaal has set up not to concede and is hoping to nick one on the break. Perhaps that's why Robben is not busting a gut right now. He will have a proper go in the last 20 when Argies have tired up a bit.

And to add to that, it's quite clear that both teams are very well prepared for this match, in regards to what to expect from their opponents.

I'd expect as much from an LvG team, but I've been quite impressed by Argentina, their discipline and the way they are able to smother their opponents. I didn't think they had that sort of tactical discipline, and expected more naïveté akin to Brazil from them.

Because if you knock it long it comes back....

Out of the two teams, probably Argentina will cause more trouble to Germany especially if Di Maria is avaiable. His pace will cause Germany defence problems.

Perez and Lavezzi both play well, and Higuian.

Rojo's cross isn't good, not just this game.

They can't get it to them. The formation forces them out wide to kuyt and blind who just aren't good enough to carry the ball forward to robben/rvp

So to our German friends, who do you guys wanna face? Holland or Argentina?

I think Argentina would be easier for us to play against but Holland is a real derby. So i would say Holland BUT Robben is the only individual player in this world i would fear (maybe Ibrahimovic tho) so i have to say...... hmmm i don't care :D just gimme the käsköppe!
