Day 17: England vs Germany | Sweden vs Ukraine (Ro16 7&8)

His face wasn't a bit to the left. The other guy got his leg bent out of shape. That's the difference
Ahhh, so if the defender had thrown himself into it a bit more then it would've been reckless. Because he managed to get his face out of the way of the challenge, it's just a coming together.

Anyone hurt that bad should not be able to continue…. see if it’s bullshit

yep bullshit

Injured himself trying to back into the defender and dive.

how stupid to fake an injury and have to come off when you are up a player and in the last 2 minutes of extra time....muppet

I’ve read this a few times, but don’t understand it. Sorry
You think you’d get send off for that at a normal level of football? Sorry but you just wouldn’t. Football isn’t better by pretending it’s not a physical sport.

Watch the ref again when he goes to monitor.

Went over and first imagine was still of Danielsson connecting with Ukraine player. He was about to walk off and issue red card there and then before he saw next replay of the tackle before but by then his mind had been made up.
Yep, this is a major, major issue with VAR and I'm amazed the people in charge can't see it. Still images and slow-motion distorts things hugely and gives an indication of intent that may not have been there.

I maintain that VAR should only be looking at situations in real time. If you can't call it in real time on repeated viewings, it's not an obvious error and the on-pitch call stands. We'd be rid of those silly offsides instantly too.

I physically cringe every time this color commentator opens his mouth on ESPN. How can you be so bad at your job

I know when I’ve hurt my shoulder that rolling around on it really helps ease the pain quickly.

So the red is for the outcome rather than the incident
I agree with you cos the guy isn't challenging an opponent for the ball or lunging into a tackle, he's clearing a ball and the opponent ran into him.
It's not for the outcome, although the outcome is clearly a function of the type of position the defender went into.

The red is for a challenge that is dangerous, that is what the rules are telling us. This means a certain amount of jeopardy is built into the rules when you lift studs or move towards the ball high, or lunging from a distance which is naturally less controlled.

It is not the outcome that is defining the red card, it is when the above actions are applied to an opposing player in the form of a challenge. So yes you can lunge in exactly the manner the defender did when nobody is around, because it's not a challenge.

Nonsense we just stop good defending and we deny players going off their feet which is a great part of the game. No surprise that this pathetic way of thinking has made the game worse than it was.

Hint: It isn't good defending if you have to go through your opponents knee to do it.

That's exactly what happened with the red card incident for crying out loud.

As I've said wouldn't have been a red card 5 years ago but with VAR and what refs are told now to do with those challenges he was always going to be sent off once it was seen.

Ukraine winner, harsh on Sweden that.

Not bad. Better hope the goal scorer hasn't been booked before, otherwise he is getting another and will be banned.

Not gonna be an interesting quarterfinal, two very defensive teams in England and Ukraine.
