Day 14: Netherlands vs USA | Argentina vs Australia (Last 16 1&2)

Red cafe is a joke sometimes - not saying that Blind is a world beater etc but he at least makes the Dutch first team on a consistent basis. But he is done and finished etc . A goal and an assist - not bad for a has been!

I think the PL just has different requirements he’s always been a fine technically gifted player for me. Just not a PL player perhaps.

Blind is just a bloody great player. Wish we'd have kept him.

Didn’t José get rid of Blind? We’ll have to check the “José was right” thread, one of the most hilarious threads in caf history.

What a naive yellow to pick up from de Jong, could easily come back to haunt him

Gotta say, don't see an 80m midfielder in de Jong this tournament. Been pretty anonymous.

Poor defending have contributed in all 3 Dutch goals.

Yep, that’s the story of this game. Pulisic didn’t look fit either but you can’t blame the manager for starting him. But his starting forwards were poor while they were on the pitch.

the experience this team is getting will be invaluable going forward for this young group.....robinson, dest, adams, mckennie, musah, pulisic, weah, aaronson, reyna

these guys are going to be the foundation of the World Cup team come 2026

Daley Blind is known for his excellent long range delivery and crosses, so what do the Americans do? Leave him alone on the flank. Ok, maybe they couldn't get a man over in time to block him, no worries, they've got a lot of bodies in the box so let's make sure everyone is covered. Nope, they just leave the far post player open, not a single one of them scanning the area behind them, all fixated on Blind and his technique as he strikes the ball. That's one of the worst defending I've seen since Harry Maguire pulled Shaw out of the way in the Spurs game. It's a goal you'd berate school kids for conceding. I literally can't believe how bad that was.

They better hope they find a reliable scorer until then

Defensive shape and awareness of the threats has been horrible and exploited by Netherlands.

Blind has 1 goal and assist, with Dumfries 1 goal and 2 assists. All the traffic and bodies are through the middle. The difference came from the flanks. Never did anything to stop them like going to a 442 or playing a flat and wide midfield 3

He'll not come to play second fiddle to Dalot, who's a better RB than Dumfries

I want our RBs to bust each other's balls, just like Malacia did to bring the good Luke Shaw back. Besides, we already know how shit we are if Dalot doesn't play for whatever reason while Ten Hag distrusts Wan Bissaka.

That's all fair, but don't see Dumfries being thrilled being backup

This is one of the least intense, drama free, relaxed knockout games I've ever seen. USA got the random goal off a fluke finish but like... They've never looked close here

France-Poland tomorrow. Indeed I think England-Senegal will largely go like this match.

Surely you’re joking. USA have seriously lacked quality and guile, no question, but this has been a hard fought, intense match.
