Day 1 | Germany vs Scotland

The gulf between the two teams was as big as I have seen at a finals. Scotland were so bad, it's difficult to tell if the Germans are really that good.

If you think the Scots are angry now, just imagine what they'll be like when they find out they don't deep fry their bratwursts in Berlin.
Nah, you’ll find some delighted guy that’ll have opened up his own niche deep fried bratwurst stall making an absolute mint.

He also sells deep fried steins.

Greece weren’t this bad from what I remember

The point was that they'd have individuals you'd likely say the same about on paper. It was just a bad game but they clearly should be at this level because they you know...got there...on merit due to a strong qualifying campaign.

The Scots have already started rioting. Police sirens blaring.

Fair enough. I know nothing about him but I enjoyed the young lad saying 'feck the germans' live on Sky sports
Aye. I agree with the wee lad’s sentiment. I love the fact that it was in Dunfermline and that the reporter apologised for the profanity. It’s like the BBC guy apologising for some bloke chanting “feck the Tories”.

I've always thought of setting up a deep fried whisky stall in Glasgow. If you freeze the whisky using liquid nitrogen I reckon you might be able to successfully deep fry it into bite sized nuggets.

Since the Del Bosque Spain team, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a singular international performance as complete as the one Germany just put in. Absolute perfection from the first second to the literal last as that’s when they scored their last goal. Scotland aren’t a great side but they’ve got a lot of desire and have given England and Spain trouble in recent years. Germany just brushed them aside.

This. That’s a silver lining. I always like to see host nations doing well, it’s only recently that host nations have faltered at tournaments.
Euro 2000 (Kinda, Dutch did great)
Euro 2008 (both hosts)
Euro 2012 (both hosts although Ukraine started well)
World Cup 2010-Ghana I guess became the continental representative
World Cup 2022 Qatar

fecking hell, Souness has lost his head after one game  Comparing population sizes and everyone is stood there in silence.

Not sure I agree with that. England beat them quite comfortably last year in Scotland.

There were some positives to take for Scotland.

For example at the end of the game, the game stopped carrying on anymore

He was doing that lunchtime on the radio too.
It’s been nice not having him on Sky, adds absolutely no insight at all. We’re about to watch Croatia play Spain tomorrow, let’s see how bothered he is about population size when analysing that game.

I've seen Buckfast churros (in Irn Bru sauce) so it could be possible with whiskey.

Another positive is that, despite everything, that still isn't the worst performance I've seen from a Scotland team in a major competition.

Germany looked very good, hard to judge them fully though because Scotland were woeful.

Musiala is some player though, I do know that much.

He is truly terrible at this level

Playing him as false 9 wouldn't be the worst shout really.

Scotland just hit endless long balls for Che Adams to be outjumped comfortably by Rudiger and Tah.

If that tactic isn't going to change much better to have McTominay up there as he might win a few flick ons for McGinn and Christie to run onto.

I still have to try this.

Watch any of Irelands group matches in 2012. Horrific.

Oh feck yeah, l went and watched the Spain game in a bar in Denver. There was about 40 Spanish fans right beside me, they seemed to enjoy it.

Some American guy came in shouting "hey, Where's Messi? Where's Messi?" He bought them all a drink when they finally got it through that Messi was from Argentina and Barcelona are a club in Spain.

Probably one of the most miserable games of football I've ever experienced.

Is that when we played Spain? Grim

Yeah thats the one. 12 years ago today ironically according to RTE. At least we scored against Croatia, against Spain Im not even sure we touched the ball other than kicking off.

Would have been a much better idea. Adams won a single header all night that was then mopped up instantly by the other defender because he was so isolated.

Locking Kroos in the locker room would have been a good alternative as well.

Germany have strong players everywhere. Can't see England being better than them. They might be better than France too.

I said Germany were good at work and git laughed down. Scotland were obviously dreadful but it was clear to me that Germany are a good side despite that. They absolutely bummed them tonight and looked like they had a fair amount of quality all across the park.
