David Gill Transfer warchest v2012

Some of you are embarrassing thundercunts. Ever since 2005 it's been an annual theme that we mock united's ambition and transfer strategy. Every so often we spend a shit load of money, including the best part of £55m last summer and yet it's as if it never happened. What did you want gill to say? He just told the truth. We have got funds and we will be buying players. It's utter retardation to think otherwise. I'm embarrassed that some people continue to peddle this line and denigrate people at the club. Does a club with no money decide to spend £11m on a new medical centre or £10m buying up bits of land in the area? Does a club with no money commit to gashing £24m on nasri before he fecked us off for an extra £70k a week? Even with the debt we turn over £30-40m cash profit. We should have more money but we aren't skint. There is clearly money to be spent and I suggest a big chunk will be committed in the next few weeks. It's not about signing the most expensive players, it's about getting the best. We've got a better squad than last season and will be stronger again next year. Stop whining. Rant over.

The feck got into you? :nervous:

Bringing Scholes back for half a season, when we hadnt signed a proper replacement was absolutely not a step backwards like Vieira said.

However, starting a new season with him after that is.

What? Who is this?

Clearly being sarcastic, the other day he said we wont win the league for a long time now.

Well said.

We spent 50 million in the summer and ended 20 million less better off...

That's because we should have spent on what we needed, which was a holding midfielder.

It's not what you spend it's whether you improve because of it. For all we spent, the first team was weaker than last season, and we paid the price for that in the end.

If Scholes hadn't come back in Jan, we would undoubtedly have paid that price much much sooner!

On an unrelated note, I got the email asking me to be on the season ticket 'waiting list' today.

To be fair we do strengthen, but for some reason we're 2 years too late in signing the midfielder we desperately need and that messes with perceptions on our transfer business. I know we won the league and got the CL final last year, and barely missed out this year on the title, but some of the football just isn't manchester united of past. A midfielder is so overdue it's bordering on ridiculous.

Rant over Red, what happened to your ITK source these past few days?

David Gill admits he is still recovering from the devastating blow in the title race but has stressed that moves are already afoot to bring in new players during the summer.

The chief executive has confirmed there is cash for Sir Alex Ferguson to spend to improve his squad and targets have already been identified.

“It turned into a very difficult afternoon but that’s football for you,” said Gill, recalling Sunday's events. “We’ve had a great season, got 89 points and the title has never been decided on goal difference before. All the players and staff can be very proud of what they’ve achieved.

“I do think everyone at the club, from Alex down, agree we underperformed in Europe this year. We felt confident of getting out of our Champions League group and the Europa League was new for us and took some getting used to. But it demonstrates the high standards set for this club.

“The very fact we finished second and no team has come second with 89 points means we’ve got a lot to be proud of. We’ve got to move on and I’m sure we’ll come back fighting next year.”

When discussing moves on the transfer front, the chief executive is awaiting developments over the course of the summer.

“The manager, Jim Lawlor and the scouting team, everyone is looking at it and discuss it throughout the period,” he explained. “Obviously, the work intensifies now in terms of actually doing deals and we’ve identified players so let’s see what happens.

“It’s a 365-day-a-year job that talent is always on our radar but the paperwork is done in the close season and transfer window – we can sort out the deals beforehand and get them moving.”

In terms of competition from Manchester City at the head of the market, he replied: “We have to sell what this club is about. We still pay very well in terms of transfer fees and wages. City have raised the bar again and we’ve seen what they’re prepared to pay for players and to players but we’ll see what’s happening with the financial fair play and how that’s implemented and what the sanctions are going to be.

“It’s interesting. We should recognise we’re a very successful club, one of the top three in terms of turnover in world football and it generates a lot of cash to invest in players. We will continue to do so and our style is both buying players and giving youth a chance.

“Without doubt [there is money to spend]. We recognise we spent quite a bit of money last summer when we bought Phil Jones, David De Gea and Ashley Young and we understand that. I think we’ll be looking in the next few months and there could be some interesting developments.

“Come August, we’ll have got new players, had the Euros, the players will be back, we will have been on tour and start again. That’s the beauty of football. Everyone starts on zero points and we’ve got to step up to the mark and do well.”

He's actually giving me hope this time..

I actually think United will make a statement this year with one big deal, hammer home that we aren't dead and buried like everyone seems to think. I wouldn't rule out us getting someone like Hazard. And then a couple of others.

Gill has a recorded message which he plays once a year round about this time. Pay no heed

He's actually giving me hope this time..

He gives me hope every year, but let's not forget the Tories gave people hope too! Seriously, the bottom line is always about what you do, not what you say. That is what he has been judged on before and this time will be no different.

If he and the manager buy the players we need and the first team improves as a result, who can have any reasonable cause for complaint? That is all everyone has been asking for.

It has been the frustrating and ultimately wateful punts on the likes of Diouf, Obertan, Bebe and Owen, when we should really be strengthening that have caused people to take the piss.

Red Richio's right, some people do go ridiculously overboard to incriminate the Glazers. But i also have to admit it is very frustrating that we have had to have a season end like this one, before finding enough motivation to finally sign the type of players we should have already signed, to prevent just this type of scenario from occurring.

Gill's semantics are changing, for those astute few who read what he's really saying.

If we've "identified targets", "set our stall out" and so forth - is there any reason this shouldn't be done before the Euros?

I'm hanging onto the 'interesting' part of his quote. But seriously, we will sign a few players and I'm sure SAF has it covered. He knows what we need most and will get it. Hopefully city keep their paws off our targets.

:lol::lol:

Don't tell me Obama is signing! Thank feck for that! Finally, changes we can believe in!! Woo hoo!! :smirk:

Might do. For years, all the pundits have been telling us how far on the left wing he is, but every time I see him, he's squarely in the middle of the pitch. I just wonder whether he's not too defensive to pair well with Carrick. He makes some good runs, and he makes the odd outside shot now and then, and he can distribute well if given a bit of room by the opposition, but I do wonder how creative he can really be.

Very adept at dronal marking too, a real indication of his ongoing commitment to employ effective defensive systems. From what i've heard i think he is even trying to promote this concept globally!

Don't get reeled in by this joker. He fabricates the same promises every year, no doubt over a few glasses with SAF

He's probably browsing the caf laughing at the muppets getting excited

A typical Gill "copy and paste" quote like every other season. We need some marquee signings this season, no more inexperienced youth.

I really hope Gill puts his money where is mouth is this time. Fingers crossed.

Scholes and Fletch will be like 2 new signings.

Like Berbatov? Veron?

Instead of inexperienced youth like Ronaldo and Rooney?
