David Gill Transfer warchest v2012

I think some caftards should stop being hypocrites about his decision to join Chelsea. I think its perfectly understandably given 1) He's not a local lad, nor is he a manchester united fan, 2) London is a much more enjoyable place to stay, and 3) He will be paid a lot more. However, it doesn't not cloud the fact that Hazard would have been a luxury signing as he is most effective from the wings, as compared to our most immediate need, a central midfielder.

Yep. I would have been very disappointed if we had signed Hazard and not strengthened the midfield.

Why is this always stated as fact? Cheshire is an amazing place to live, especially if you have a family (as Eden does) and millions in the bank.

Because people think that signing for United means you have to live next to the Stretford Arndale.

i think it's the lack of competition and assurance that as Abramovich's signing he will not be dropped.

Agree with all points except the luxury signing part.

These are not 'luxury' signings to our competition, why would they be for us?

We need to compete.

Anyone else feel that Hazard was probably our one chance of a big profile signing this summer?

(Unless Kagawa counts)

I wouldn't even count him as big profile, he may be more talented than Kagawa but he's less proven. It's the fact that all 3 clubs went for him that made it a high profile signing.

exactly. For all the talk about Hazard these past few months, he's not exactly the biggest name in world football, and he won't be the biggest name player to switch clubs either.

Let me get this straight.

We put in an offer for Hazard. He had the choice to pick between 3 of England's biggest and wealthiest clubs. He chose Chelsea. Apparently, this means we cannot compete. Apparently it's all the Glazers fault.

Does it ever embarrass anyone how much it always comes back to the owners? "Uncle Malc didn't give me my favourite rattle, how on earth am I going to survive with all these other equally expensive toys." It's a privilege watching Manchester United and supporting Manchester United. There are loads of gifted players we've lost out on in the past, yet everyone seems to think United pre-Glazers was nirvana for everyone of the world's top footballers. Batistuta, Shearer, Gascoigne and many, many more that we were probably in for but never signed, therefore never knew about.

Amazingly, every footballer in the world doesn't wake up in the morning and swear his undying dedication to Manchester United. Surprisingly there are many elite clubs that he would be attracted to, and United does not and never has sat on the top of the pile for many foreign players. We're a big name, we're respected, but history isn't the only thing that attracts a player. If it did, many more would be willing to take the trip down the M42 to those who are still wallowing in the memory of their "glory days."

Grown men crying over the fact that we may not have budged from a 120k per week offer to a 150k week per offer, or spent 5 million paying off his agent. It's farcical but unfortunately there's a breed of United fans who think supporting them is the equivalent of being born with a silver spoon and demanding everything their hearts' desire. This isn't a fantasy world, this is real life - United lost out, just like people lose out in their everyday worlds. Now, stop throwing a hissy fit and man up - it'll do a world of good.

One of the newbies posted this. Posted what I feel but in much better words.

Dunno that bit about players not waking up and declaring their undying love for United seems a bit far fetched to me.

people saying promote him should be demoted. It's like a footballer having one good game and some cnut coming on here saying: 'You see that guy? He was awesomez. Lets sign him for 50million.'....

One good post. Perspective.

We don't have a war chest but if we do then of course people will moan when you talk a good game but do feck all. There was no value last season. There should be this season. We paid 12million for Ronaldo, and anything over 20 - in this day and age, they can go swivel.

Liverpool, Arsenal, us and Chelsea all went for Jones so that's not entirely why he's high profile. He's high profile because he has been talking up the Premier League and trying to get interest from pretty much every club in the top five all season. Frankly I'm glad we didn't get him, he only seems interested in making money, he would probably have given PSG a chance as well if he were moving from a league like the Eredivisie or Bundesliga.

Aren't all young footballers interested in making money? Did you expect him to be some kind of young, visionary footballing philanthropist?

If he takes the Premier League and Europe by storm and helps Chelsea compete for the title again I wonder if you will continue to harbour the same feelings?

No not at all but my point is, I didn't appreciate the way he was trying to get a transfer to the PL this season. I don't see it necessary that he be in the press every three days saying how Arsenal and Spurs are his dream clubs just to talk himself into a move, it's not on even if Lille had said he could go.

Edit: And yes, I will still be glad we didn't get him. I'd much rather have a player like Mata who seems modest and has a good attitude.

I reckon promote him but ban him immediately from the transfer forum - seems a bit of a spoilsport to me

Don't be bitter towards Hazard. He quite clearly loves football, how else would he get so good.

Fair play to him for picking the best overall deal in terms of money and scope for trophies, location etc.

Fair play to him getting his agent £6m.

Getting the feeling we are done in the transfer market - no much coming out of Old Trafford

or do you expect a bit more activity after the Euros

if we are after any players that are invloved in the euros then how could anything happen at the moment.

I hope to feck we are far from done!

Probably one average signing in CM from the PL.

Gill talks shite. Stop starting every summer making it out like we are going to splash on a top player or two!

We have lost Owen, Berba is likely to leave as well as one of two other faces I'd imagine. We have brought in two players so far. There will be more signings I'm almost certain although I have no idea whether they will be big names or more prospects. The transfer window isnt even open yet ffs

its almost a publicity stunt to appease the fans

we did spend well last season although not as well relative to teams like Liverpool or the real big spenders

'Does it ever embarrass anyone how much it always comes back to the owners?'

No. It fecking doesn't. The leeching debt ridden cretins.

Once we get cover for our fullbacks, I think we may hold tough till next season. Not ideal I know, but that is always SAF logic. Especially as it is Scholes and Giggs definate last season, and possibly Ando's aswell (if he survives this summer and doesnt step-up to the plate). We appear to do things in stages. I dont think we will break the mould here. Next summer is the main one. Possibly they will try line something up in gentlemans handshake style, so we dont have a feck-up like Ronaldinho turning us down last minute when we sold goldenballs. Other than that, I'd only expect youth coming in.

Perhaps we didnt need to spend £100 million on improving our squad like liverpool? i dont think our team is that bad, we strengthened in a few positions and clearly thought that was enough.

If our season was not ravaged by injury it could have been different.

July 1st is a key date in terms of contracts etc.. as well

I imagine thats when the pogba move will be official

we might get a surprise or two then

in the age of twitter/agents its difficult to keep a deal quiet unless they are a client of someone like Mendes
