De Gea is obviously a fantastic young keeper but ive seen that he conceded the most shots by a keeper from long range in la liga last year. Surely not a great sign when you consider that he has yet to face some of the cleanest strikers of a football on earth in the prem. Ie robin van persie and steven gerrard

Well its a known fact that no-one in Spain has a clean strike from outside the area.
The stat about De Gea conceding more goals from outside his area than any other keeper doesn't really tell us much since Atletico Madrid conceded more shots on target in last season's La Liga than any other team bar one or two of the teams at the bottom of the table. We would need to know what percentage of shots he saved compared to the other goalkeepers (adjusted for difficulty of shots faced of course) to come to any meaningful conclusions.
Statistics can be over-rated and over-used, if he's good, he's good.
