David De Gea (SAF confirmed signing!)

Appears my news on Lindegaard might be off the mark. I'll run and hide now.

He's barely had a chance to play due to his injury. When he has played he's barely conceeded and done his job quietly but very well. He just doesnt seem to have that superstar quality where you'd say "Why would we need to sign a replacement for VDS?"

How the hell has Lindegaard been awful since he's barely ever played!? He's been injured!

Let's just start a new thread in there when it's announced officially, Sults.

I'm so tired of mega-threads.

Hope this guy ends up being a success (if it is confirmed), if he's the real deal.. the fact he's only 20, we could be in for a very long career.

The most expensive goalkeeper of all time is currently Gianluigi Buffon (following his €52.29 million transfer to Juventus from Parma), followed by Angelo Peruzzi (€17.9 million from Internazionale to Lazio). The British record is held by Scottish goalkeeper Craig Gordon, who signed for Sunderland from Scottish club Heart of Midlothian for £9 million on 7 August 2007.

why they pay so crazy for Buffon.

i've just checked his wikipedia page and he's not scored a goal at any level, club or international, i'm getting sick and tired of these fergie value signings, buying them young and hoping they develop into something special. fergie out.

In a sense it's good media manipulation to confirm the signing.

It takes the headlines away from the other headlines!

I think they call it "Putting out the trash" in the media.

Because it was money well-spent? Buffon is considered to be the best goalie of his generation and rightly so.

I don't know the Gea, I've hardly seen him play, but given Neuer wasn't available I wish we would have gone for Adler as I know exactly that he is quality as opposed to De Gea whom I don't know.

Same here...most probably the news of the signing was planned for after the CL final

Am I the only one worried of bringing in a kid (while very promising) to cover the most difficult job at United for a looping 17m? I wouldn't like to be in De Gea's shoes at the moment.

Our GKs next season, allegedly: De Gea, Lindegaard, Amos.

Yong and lernin' :nervous:

Well, Chech was kinda young when he left Rennes for Chelsea, that turned out pretty good. De Gea has been Atleticos first choice in two seasons, have some faith.

also, he has only signed for United cause he knew he was atleast 8 years away from taking the #1 shirt @Barca or Madrid. I feel that, by the time he'll be a mature maestro, he will want to go to spain. this will be in 7-8 years.
a 20 year old keeper. too much of a risk, isn't it?
how talented is this guy?

He is shite. Luckily, though, Barca or Madrid will take him off our hands.

So we're basically taking him on a lengthy loan because he will be off to Spain in a few years anyway? Crap.

Why does people always assume the worst on Caf. The kid hasn't signed yet but still they are talking about Barca /Madrid taking the player away.

I'm not writing him off though, more the case of "shit, we all have these young GKs, what if what if what if...". But other than that, full faith.

If he does well then he'll better what Buffon did at Juventus. Moving for a record signing at early 20s was tough even during Buffon's time but at least he did it in his own nation with a club whose pretty similar (in terms of mentality) to his former club.

Because it's Barca and Madrid and we all know that when Barca and Madird come a knocking or when even the press have spuriously lnked our players with thhose prestegious organisation all we can do is wave our players goodbye because we are Manchester United and no matter how hard we try we can't sell all our players and sign all of Barca and Madrids players and even if we did, we'd still not be Barca or Madrid Ohhhh Goddd why can't we be Barca or Madrid!

Something like that goes through their head at the time I imagine.

You just have to laugh. And/or take the piss out of the "people" in question.
