Reina makes plenty of mistakes too, I'd rather De Gea.

Neuer is better though, would be nice if we went out and got him, the best man for the job.

Neuer said in an interview that he doesnt want to move abroad, most likely signing for Bayern

Manchester will be 20 million De Gea
Can be one of the most important movements of the Spanish market during the summer
27/3/2011

Manchester United have virtually sealed the signing of goalkeeper David de Gea for next season. In England and agreement were closed yesterday for about twenty million, five less than it reads the clause. Both the club and the doorman mattress would have given the OK to an operation that leaves much benefit to Atletico and will enable De Gea continues to evolve into one of the most important clubs in the world.

De Gea option has always been preferred by Ferguson to replace Van der Saar veteran, who this season announced his retirement. Manchester United Europe has sought for a goalkeeper with characteristics similar to Dutch and finally have decided on the mattress. His youth and good performances in the league, where his team has saved more than a meeting, would have tipped the balance. In fact, the information arrived from England suggest that Manchester United has followed him throughout the season before making a final decision.

De Gea and would be looking to Manchester after having reached an agreement that would be his new club. Everything would be pending a review of relevant medical and signing of all documents. And is that Manchester United had always refused to pay the buyout clause in full of goalkeeper, considering that the price was excessive.

Atletico Madrid, you are signing a disastrous season, wants to carry out a revolution in its workforce and, therefore, needs money. Simao already pulled in the January and summer hoping to raise enough money through sales. De Gea is the first, although the main objective is to pass to Diego Forlan. Uruguay does not have a good relationship with some of the heavyweights of the template and not with the leaders Atletico. During the summer and taking advantage of the tug tried to sell their great World Cup, but nobody paid twenty million asking. Its current valuation would be around 15 million euros, but could reduce it.

I'm impressed with his desire to evolve into one of the world's most important clubs. He's ambitious.

Thank feck the doorman mattress okayed the deal.

I think they call keepers something which translates literally to "doorman" in Spain. The Mattress Makers is the nickname of Atletico because their shirts were made of the same cheap striped fabric that they made mattresses out of in Spain. In other words, it translates as De Gae has agreed to the deal.

No reliable sources reporting this yet though, just the usual suspects. Best taken with a pinch of salt or two at the moment.

Like the barcodes over here.

I don't think there's much in this rumour. It's only being reported by sport.es (I think they are based in Barcelona) not Marca or AS.

The problem is we had a developing goalkeeper, he made mistakes and our fans were quick to write him off. De Gea will make them too, hopefully his age will mean our fans show a bit more patience if we sign him

You're not talking about Foster are you? The no ambition keeper who said he doesn't have the mentality to play for a big club.

Everybody on here seems to be focusing only on the negatives, whether it is Neuer, Lloris, Adler or De Gea. I mean come on, they are young (GK years) and are all bound to make mistakes.

I agree. Most of those people have seen the reserves play more often than those goalkeepers. It's opinions based on a handful of games.

First choice goalkeeper for France or Germany at such a young age is hardly a bad choice. If it is then the market is really slim pickens and Arsenal really don't have a bad keeper after all.

Ageed.

De Gea was my preference, so I hope this is true.

Yeah me too. What i've seen of De Gea has impressed me, and i'm glad he's being considered for our number 1 spot. Him & Lindegaard could be challenging for the number one spot for many years to come, and thats a very healthy thing!

United arent goin to make the same mistake as they did when Smikes retired!

Just a comment on the relative silence of AS and Marca - both papers have basically said that the whole Atletico squad (except for Kun) are for sale. There are supposed to be no plans to offer De Gea a new contract, instead they'll just sit and wait. If a tempting offer comes in, they'll sell. After the Madrid derby (and Ozil's goal) the Madrid press were full of, "we don't need him anyway," stories.

What makes it more surprising is that Asenjo (who De Gea kept out of the side) has damaged his knee again - another 6/8 months out - so they're looking at another of the youth squad to step up into the first team. Yet, they talk like they're OK with that - media and fans.

They're just typical football fans. A young goalkeeper? Awesome. Doing well? Great. Makes a few mistakes? Sell him we dont need him

As it's a spanish paper, it's obviously in Euro.

Not a terrible price. I don't think you'll get such a hot keeping talent for less.

Spanish newspaper are always reporting that we've agreed fee's on certain players. £17.5m seems a lot for a goalkeeper as well...

Take with a pinch of salt..and a pound of butter.

What an awful cake that would be.

It does look fairly solid this De Gea thing now. It's hardly a new rumour and the fact that there is a very limited number of keepers around that we'd be interested in anyway, does kind of lend credibility to these reports.

It isn't like a new striker or midfielder where there's 30 different names and suggestions thrown around the place like an Essex girl at an orgy. The rumours seem to be consistent and it seems to have been our number 1 target for quite a while.

At this stage, without meaning to give in to tabloid speculation, I'd be more inclined to be surprised if it didn't happen than I would if it did now.

I'm fairly sure the pronunciation of his name will be 'De Gee' with a hard 'g'

Articles from Caught offside and the daily star are banned on the Caf.

Christ, if that were the case this forum would cease to exist.

I think Aaron is spot on. This seems more than the usual tabloid cobblers. We've obviously been keeping a close eye on the fella and it's no secret that we're in the market for a new keeper in the summer.

I'd genuinely be surprised if this happened. SAF doesn't like signing very young goalkeepers, yet alone throwing them into the team straight away. Once thing I would say though, that assuming VDS stays on as a coach, he'd be such a massive help to a young lad like De Gea.

I think he'd be an awesome long term replacement, and has more potential than any of Adler, Neuer or Lloris, but at 20 years of age it'd be a big risk.
