Was never his biggest fan but he did make some unbelievable saves. Probably the best reflexes I've ever seen from a goalkeeper.

Good luck Dave.

I hope he gets a testimonial?? Feck me, im saddened by this, but its the right call. Made some unreal saves our Dave.

Definitely in our top 3 keepers of all time. Outstanding shot stopper that kept us around for a few seasons.

For those that are saying “United handled this poorly” really need to come off it. For the amount of wages he was on coupled with the mediocrity of some of his performances in recent times, this was always going to be the only outcome if we wanted to move him on. His wages were too high and him taking a pay-cut to stay would not magically have him develop the skills required from a GK to fit into the team’s footballing aspirations.

Credit to the club for addressing our GK issues.

Thank you for the memories Dave, best of luck in the future.

His save won us a champions league penalty shoot out. He is a club legend.

He deserves a testimonial.
Some memory of yours, that.

Great servant, should have left ages ago, the club has handled it abysmally.

At his peak, it was like having Spider-Man in goal. I've thought we needed to move on for a while now, but it's still a punch to the gut to see him go.

Dave's time had come. We could all see that. However, that doesn't take away what he did for United. Was once the main thing between us and genuine mediocrity. Wish him well for the future.

One of my favorite videos on YT. Was a privilege to see him grow into one of the best keepers in the world. Some of the stuff and saves he did at his very peak looked like they came out from the Matrix movie.

So long Dave, thanks for the memories.

Pretty damn easy. It was clear to everyone his time here is at an end. Don't offer him a new contract at all and make it clear to him and to everyone else he is not staying months before his contract expires. That way everyone else knows when his last game at Old Trafford is and we can give him a proper goodbye with a standing ovation and all that. You can be both ruthless and competent. The two are not mutually exclusive.

There is a massive chance that this was speculation. There is also a chance that we would have been willing to keep him for the right wages. I highly doubt we would be the only club to reach that conclusion, but we seem to be the only one criticized for every action we take. De Gea has been having howlers for years, he got to the end of the season to work with ETH. Where other players improved, DDG showed he couldn't modernize throughout the season, but still had enough about him to make good saves. It was clear he wasn't worth the wages but could be worth something. He's also spent many years with us and providing that 2nd chance to him wouldn't have been the worst move for the right price, especially considering the budget restrictions in this window. However, even that is pure speculation. DDG is a keeper who still feels he has good value, we are a team who don't feel hes worth the cost. Is he upset we feel this way? That is very likely.

Great keeper. Truly a legend, I imagine if his transfer to RM had gone through he’d have a few Champions League medals, maybe a La Liga medal too and be regarded as one of the best. Sadly he was our best player when we were at our worst and no one really appreciates the who keeps you top 7-4 and without whom you’d be mid table.

It is the right time for him to leave because football has changed. The keeper position is more than just shot stopping, and even at that his been too error prone lately and doesn’t offer anything to compensate in regards to transitions.

As we saw in the CL final the main reason Inter were in it right until the final whistle was because of Onana, but as we also saw the reason they lost was because they didn’t have world class forward. So it’s great if we sign Onana, but worthless if we don’t have someone to take the chances. I believe in Rashford but after him the options are not good.

Legend! Kept us in many games over the years, during periods of absolute crap, some of his saves were unbelievable! Thank you David from everyone of us. Can’t believe he’s the last to win the title with us…now it’s time our current crop bag a couple.

Could and should have been handled so much better. We should have make a decisive and early decision not to renew so he could have got a proper send off.

Anyway, Cheers Dave... For a fair few years you were the best shot stopper in the world, and that should never be forgotten.

All the best, thanks for some great matches like Liverpool away, arsenal and spurs away, Everton at home etc.

Yeah maybe he should of got a better send off, but apprently he's been sat on that original contract offer for a whilst now, then when he's finally come back to the table, it was clear he's not what we need in goal.

Legend of the club though I'm sure he'll get his testimony at some point.

Thanks for everything DDG! It's a bit of shame how it all transpired, but the timing is right, unfortunately. I know he let us and himself down in his latter years, but his contributions in his prime was phenomenal. He was a goalkeeper that could win you matches on his own. I choose to remember the "Dave Saves!" and "David DeGod" versions of him and wish him all the best in the future.

De Gea has spent the last half a decade constantly struggling in pressure situations. There's a fair chance that if we'd told him he was no longer wanted he would have fallen apart at the end of the season and potentially cost us top four or the FA Cup final (he arguably did the latter anyway). None of us know exactly what happened and what decisions were made when, but unfortunately I do think the club and team as a whole were best off with De Gea thinking we still wanted him until after the season ended.

Conversely it could have motivated him to do better as he would know he has to be good to get a big move in the summer.

If anything him having a contract on the table might have made him too relaxed

Many thanks for your service and memories David. Good luck in your future endeavours!

Sums up the club really. No forward planning, everything left to the last minute; which has resulted in a club legend not getting the send off he deserves. At times he was completely unbeatable and has left me with some fond memories. The timing is right that we move forward with someone else between the sticks and hopefully some day, Dave Saves can get the warm reception at Old Trafford that he deserves.

He was absolutely the best in the world for a period at United. Sadly the game has progressed and his style is very out of sorts now, you can’t have a keeper who just hoofs the ball upfield for 90 minutes.

Thanks for everything Dave you legend.

I’m sure we can hold a testimonial in his honour at some point if we want.

A classy departure from a superb keeper who has served the club supremely well.

Best of luck Dave.

It was time to leave but totally agree with common concensus that this could've been handles so much better by the club, leaves a bad taste.

I hope that one day if he returns (in opposition) tha fans at OT give him a welcome and respect he deserves.

Dave's time had come. We could all see that. However, that doesn't take away what he did for United. Was once the main thing between us and genuine mediocrity. Wish him well for the future.

He was but I sometimes wonder if genuine mediocrity might have been better for us in the long term. He papered over the cracks at times.

I hope he gets a testimonial?? Feck me, im saddened by this, but its the right call. Made some unreal saves our Dave.
It’s the least he deserves is a testimonial Id of been happy for him to stay and put the added money towards a top striker rather than the average one we might be getting.

The guy carried us from the back for a good few seasons. We’d have had some truly dire seasons without him that could’ve had a serious knock on effect.

Tonnes of astonishing saves over his career too.

The messy ending was ultimately caused by Untied paying him too much, which itself was caused by the mess we’ve been in for years meaning players could demand big money to stick around. Sounds like he played a part with not wanting to accept reduced wages though. Is what it is and likely both parties will end up benefiting from it.

Probably the best reflexes of any goalkeeper I've ever seen.

If he came along a few years earlier, or probably at any other point in football history, he'd likely have been the undisputed best goalkeeper in the world for most of his career.

I’m glad he’s gone but his Instagram post got me in the feels.

All the best Dave

Never will be a club legend for me. Length of tenure isn't the sole equation for me if it is then people better start putting Jesse Lingard on their lists of club legends given he joined our youth club in 2000 and only has 2 less cup wins than DDG had and wasn't single handily the reason why we lost cups like DDG.

I didn't see people saying this about Jesse Lingard who was with us for 20 years between youth and senior.

Imagine comparing the best player we had in the past decade to fecking Jesse lingard.

So unfortuante that a player of his talent only ever won 1 title. If he signed a decade earlier he would have left with rooms full of trophies

I reckon had he arrived a decade earlier he wouldn't have become our ultimate number one... I see SAF eventually dropping him for his indecisive and timid nature in the box.

Will always have love for the Spanish ninja Jesus. When you overstay your welcome there will be negative feedback but it's all in the past now. Excited for our new number 1
