He was of course, at least domestically facing a slightly lower standard of opposition than that which De Gea faced in the Premier League. In theory this would also balance itself out due to Onana also having a slightly lower standard of teammate but I think this is somewhat debatable.
Apparently his CL stats were much better than his domestic league stats. Last season anyway.
Bloody hell, the rough math in my thought 80-80% but then I thought I was being kind but your math seems even more damning!Unfortunately, even that wouldn't be enough. DDG's gross wages in Euros on his last contract were roughly €400k/week. Outside of Real, Barca, and Atletico, La Liga clubs pay their starting keepers €30-50k/week gross. His pay cut would need to be closer to 85-95% for most lower level clubs to be able to afford him.
Yeah it’s all up to him but I’d imagine a Saudi end might not be the worst, all factors considered but he might be dead set against it, and the benefits of being close to family and home cannot be underestimated. He’s already a multi millionaireI can't imagine that one of the lower La Liga teams wouldn't be interested. He can play in Spain and be close to his family, at this point he's made a lot of money, his next contract just needs to focus on playing time.

He's not an 'awful awful' keeper, but there are a hell of a lot more issues with him than just his play out from the back and he hasn't been 'tremendous' for half a decade now. He's an above average shot-stopper who is poor to downright terrible in pretty much every other aspect of his game, who also tends to make a lot of mistakes in the bigger more important games. What? He has been tremendous. His play out the back is not good, but cmon.
Don’t hold your breathI look forward to the moment when you become self aware.
For several seasons DDG was voted as the clubs best player by supporters and its not too far fetched to say that at times it was him who was the difference between a mediocre finish somewhere in the top 7 of the Prem and finishing further down. DDG may not be the keeper he was or the sort of keeper ETH wants but at his best he was one of the best keepers around, and was for some time. He's not an 'awful awful' keeper, but there are a hell of a lot more issues with him than just his play out from the back and he hasn't been 'tremendous' for half a decade now. Yeah but the past is the past and irrelevent to people running football clubs. Is he good enough for a top side in 2023? No. That's why he is unemployed. For several seasons DDG was voted as the clubs best player by supporters and its not too far fetched to say that at times it was him who was the difference between a mediocre finish somewhere in the top 7 of the Prem and finishing further down. Yes, that was the case for about 6 years. His all-round game was always poor but his shot-stopping was so incredibly good (probably one of the best of all time) that most would agree it more than made up for it. But it honestly felt like the pressure and mistakes of the 2018 World Cup broke him, and to all intents and purposes De Gea left at that point and a completely different keeper came back. Somebody who was a shadow of the keeper that came before, but who we continued to use as our undisputed #1 for a further half a decade (and made the highest paid player in the league and the highest paid keeper in history). For several seasons DDG was voted as the clubs best player by supporters and its not too far fetched to say that at times it was him who was the difference between a mediocre finish somewhere in the top 7 of the Prem and finishing further down. I remember DDG being decent with the ball and was beginning to claim crosses, especially in the LVG era. But after that he regressed for some crazy reason. He's now at the same point he was in his first two seasons but with worse shot stopping.Yes, that was the case for about 6 years. I agree, DDG stayed too long and was basically living on his past heroics and the odd great moment.Yes, that was the case for about 6 years. There's a slight chance that joining another club and having a fresh start might allow him to recover somewhat and at least get his shot-stopping ability back to close to his best. It's unlikely, but the fact he briefly showed it again for a few months in 21/22 does indicate he hasn't completely lost it. Would probably need to be out of the limelight though where there isn't as much pressure.

Nonsense, he was awful since 2018 and should have gone.It seems like it's not him or Gk that holding us back on playing "tenHag football" eh? We have one of the best Gk but still playing crap as a team.
Now people realize we need 2 CM, RB, striker, winger, backup CB, etc.
That's the irony. His inadequacy made him excel in stopping shots. Something that a more well rounded keeper wont see much off.
Compared to other top GK they dont make De Gea saves because most of the times they dont need to and shots saved are much less.
It's like Rio dont have to make last ditch tackle because he already dealt with the problem before it comes to that
Remember this was the highest paid goalkeeper in world football two months ago and nobody has signed him up on a free in the seven weeks he’s been a free agent. Surely he’s demanding close to ridiculous wages he was getting from us which is why most clubs are staying away. It’d be pretty damning on us and him if it was just that nobody wants him.
Which one should he sack to accommodate him?Surprised Becks hasn’t tried to get him for his Inter Miami team

Leagues have started and DDG still can’t find a club. If that’s not damning of his reputation then I don’t know what is.

If this situation hadn't happened, a few on here would have still been trying to convince us that he would easily be desirable for any other top club. This is the reality for the vast majority of our squad. Grossly overpaid in comparison to talent level and as a result, nearly impossible to move on at a profit. Without us, most would be undesirable for most clubs.Leagues have started and DDG still can’t find a club. If that’s not damning of his reputation then I don’t know what is.
But but Onana would transform our game you know.It seems like it's not him or Gk that holding us back on playing "tenHag football" eh? We have one of the best Gk but still playing crap as a team.

Ironic that we replace him with a goalkeeper whose passing would shame some premier league midfielders and in the last two games we've mostly looked as toothless as we've ever looked in the past decade. fecking hell.

De Gea has been painfully average or downright horrible since 2018. It was time for him to go.But but Onana would transform our game you know.

Onana has been top class and I already like him, he is a top GK. However it was painfully obvious and still is that we have far bigger issues than the GK. And comparing DDG to Weghorst is the laughable part of your post.Onana was our best player so far over the two games. A massive upgrade on De Gea.
Unfortunately, the manager has fecked up and our midfield has regressed. However upgrading on De Gea was always the right decision. It is like upgrading on Weghorst.
I want the supposed "transformations" that was so obvious to follow when we replace the "shit" DDG with the modern keeper. According to footballing experts it was the finishing touch to this "super team" that struggles to score goals. I bet you love watching Onana pin beautiful passes just to finish it up by our proficient attack and midfield. Are you still wanting DDG as number 1?
