David De Gea Appreciation Thread

No we didn't, the door was wide open but the greedy feck wanted a huge pay off.

He fecked us around.
Well we could have paid him off, whether he was entitled to that money or not is a different argument, but we essentially told him to find a new club at the start of the window, then at the end of the window told him he was going nowhere.

What a player he was for us. Once met him in 5th Avenue shortly after signing as well which made me laugh.

Hope he goes to a top club.
No chance a top club takes him on.
Yeah you’re probably right mate you know loads about football.
I’ll see you in 6 months time mate.

Anyone else captivated by this drama? :D
Every time I visit this thread, I check where we are in the timeline

On DDG, shame to see him this way, hopefully he can find a good club and restart

Shitting on a club legend is a new low even for this place, seems like the people keeping up with his career are the ones happy to see him without a club.

 Here we go again with the 'club legend' bollocks...

Not everyone is a legend, some are just players that were good and played for us for a while.

No one is shitting on a club legend, because DDG isn't one. Very good, though, except for the last four or five years.

I guess if some random losers on the internet said so it must be true, got me there, forget that the club and most players and staff involved with the club call him a legend, Crossy a nobody from Manchester via Stockholm said so.

Again pathetic how the only people keeping up with what he's up to are the saddos happy about him not having a club. There's literally nothing to discuss about him.

What can you expect from a fan-base that rallies around women beaters and rapists like Greenwood and Ronaldo. Whatever you say mate.

We have a history of over hyping our players, DDG was a good servant and a very good keeper for a long time but he should have been gotten rid off a good while ago. Him not finding a club for free tells a tale.

And yet you’re in here most days trying to gate keep every discussion around De Gea because you’re not willing to see any other perspective other than your own. Absolutely no one is calling him a legend because he’s not a legend. If you think he is then good for you but your bar on what a legend is, is extremely low.

Perhaps this wouldn’t be so painful for you if he managed to land a role at a big club, or any club for that matter.

The club did, multiple times after it was announced he was leaving actually, multiple players that have played or play for the club did, you're entitled to your opinion it still doesn't take away from my points that the main people posting on this thread, a thread dedicated to a player that doesn't even have a club, are embarrassing individuals celebrating that he doesn't have a job and that guys like Ronaldo, who took a dump on the club during two stints, or Greenwood who hasn't accomplished an iota of what DDG did with us, get way more love from the fan base than a good bloke who has never had off the field issues and who put in some great performances for the club.

After seeing the Greenwood thread though it'd be surprised if it was any different. Sad club with an equally sad fan base.

I doubt he is really 'free' for any club interested in signing him. He is used to a huge wage and came from Manchester United. He just isnt going to accept some mid or low tier club with a average salary. Seems like he should since the big clubs dont need or want him and this period of not having a club isnt great for the remainder of his career i think. Maybe he is hoping for an injury to a starting goalkeeper of a CL club and signing for that club.

Thanks for reminding me. @Wumminator one month on, still no top club.

Not “hating” on DDG, in 2018 he was the best shot stopper in the world by far. Since then he’s been either poor or average. He will not go to a top club. It’s obvious.

He’s not a legend unfortunately but I agree with what you’re saying

You'd have to be seriously deluded to even think DDG would end up at a top club, after finally leaving United.

The only thing he ever could do was shot stopping. Every other area of his game is literally p*ss poor, and even was equally as poor when he was the best shot stopper around. And that's only shot stopping from medium distances. He was never one of the best shot stoppers 1v1 or from distance.

And now, even his shot stopping isn't top notch.

That's some serious mental self deceiving you'll have to engage in to even think any elite club would go anywhere near him, regardless of wage demands.

If the forum, the fans, the club etc make you this sad and angry all the time I'd seriously consider taking a break from everything until you feel better.

In the meantime, people will continue to have a discussion about different things surrounding the club, some of that may involve them doubling down on their opinions on De Gea (who were also told he was world class and would be at another top team the second he left United), and some of them are entitled to insist he's still a great keeper. The truth as always is somewhere in the middle.

He was never one of the best shot stoppers 1v1 or from distance.

I agree with all of your points except this one.

Come on man, at his peak, he was regularly saving us 1 vs 1 and making great saves from distance.
The only reason he stayed so long was because he was a world class shot stopper from everywhere.

Penny for his thoughts.

375million of them even.
He needed to go. Just cause Onana was a poor signing doesn't change the fact.

The main issue I have is that it didn't need 50 million to get a competent goalkeeper.

It changes the fact completely when you downgrade position and pay 50 mil to do it.

De Gea has about as much to offer United now as Bobby Charlton. Was right to move on, even if we might not get it right first time.

With De Gea on goal this season we wouldn't have 6 defeats in 10 games for sure.

I'll get him back on a short term deal, maybe one or two years contract till we sign another GK.

I've always liked De Gea, so it's nice not to have to go through another season of him being the goalkeeper pilloried for mistakes.
