David De Gea Appreciation Thread

Just when Onana has settled and we win 3 in a row.

We go and risk it by resigning De Gea.

We're idiots. Could have signed any other goalkeeper on a short term deal and we have two other keepers as it is.
I definitely wouldn't take it as confirmed yet...

You're getting angry and ranting about a story that is 100% not true.

What are you on about there is plenty to criticise United on without resorting to using BS rumours as stick to beat it with .

United aren't resigning De Gea it's not happening stop being so dramatic .

I do find it mental though how we dropped De Gea and then signed a keeper we know will be out sometimes a few months in a season for the African Cup of Nations.

Thats not exactly ideal is it.

He didn't want to stay as second choice.

We've also signed that Turkish lad and still have Heaton at the club.

DDG did have his time here and was for a while the best keeper in the world. That has passed and he was rightly let go, Onana is now the man.

A few months? It's less than 1 and that's if they got to the final.

When we signed Onana he had stepped away from international football, it is only since that he has made things up with the coach that he has been recalled, could it have been anticipated yes, probably but your comment it is factually incorrect.

We all know players involved in the AFCON are gone for 10 months of the year and are barely involved in pre season before heading off again.

A poster on here was furiously arguing that De gea was never rated thar high.
Then named a number of pundits who'd never said it...only to be utterly banged to rights when clips of all the pundits he mentioned literally declared him best in the world level.

Was mad.

He still wouldn't have it though

If the story isn’t fake more confidence for Sir Jim to sack all of the backroom staff at this club.

Absolutely useless.

As if there was any truth to that news...

No I can't remember a single Utd fan on here that wasn't over the moon when the fax broke down. DDG was rightly held in high esteem by our fans but his time was up and we move on. Something that SAF could do with ease but we have struggled with badly for years. It was the right move he had overstated his welcome a bit.

This was so obviously a bs story. Utd won 3 games, De Gea in Manchester, I know lets make some drama up about Utd and De Gea. All the red tops are scandal sheets.

Same as Ineos potentially looking at Graham Potter to manage us in the future. The right name to rile up United fans that were led to believe that we would only sign cheap, washed up British players and managers if they were to take over.

This De Gea story is similar.

There was no fax machine

There was no fax machine
Yes this was outed as fake about a month after it supposedly happened. As if an organisation as bigcas Utd and Madrid would be using fax and couldnt get round it by using email, Zoom or phone, to name three.

Don't take my word for it but I believe fax machines stayed in use later in Japan because it was a certified form of communication for certain forms of binding or commercial uses. I believe 15 years ago (admittedly quite some time) there were some administrative paperwork I had to sent through fax. And in large companies you can probably still find large copiers that also did fax, though maybe it's not an automatic option anymore now ?

A bit like pagers that are obsolete but still in use in some hospital settings both because they're less intrusive than phones and they were (iirc) using different waves than cell phones that might be blocked in some settings.

Or, closer to sports, how team exchanging places in the draft had to (still ?) be notified by phone to the NFL.

All that said the fax machine mishap is a classic football legend. In 1997, PSG had Laurent Fournier starting in the first leg against Steaua Bucarest... but he was suspended and PSG supposedly forgot to read the UEFA fax about that. They lost 0-3 by decree (instead of 2-3) in Romania. They reverted it by lighting them up 5-0 in Paris but that goof lingered quite a while in banter.

Is our back up keeper seriously that unimpressive? I wonder how he feels.

He’s factually going anyways. We didn’t think they’d maybe change national team manager or make up with the current one?

Factually due to our horrible hindsight as always we don’t have a first team keeper for nearly a third of the season…

Such nonsensical gibberish, It runs from Jan 13th to Feb 11th. It's at most 6 weeks out of a season that stretches from August to May. Not great at maths but I don't see how 6/40 is equal to 1/3.

Utd have no league games until Jan 14th. At most he'll miss about 4 PL games, 2 FA cup matches and maybe a league cup semi final. And that's only if Cameroon go all the way.

Hold on. I thought it was widely reported that Dave DID sign the contract only for United to withdraw its offer after Dave signed it, and not that Dave walked away because it meant having to compete for the spot. Is this not what happened?

He was offered a contract on similar terms to his existing deal, sat on it for ages, then tried to return it as signed months later after a shite run of form, at which point the club said he'd taken too long and offered him a different deal on lower wages that essentially placed him as a backup. He rejected that and left as a free agent.
