Think he lost his motivation, can't see how it's possible to deteriorate to this level when he's only 29 and still very young for a goalkeeper

I don’t think you can accuse Ole of being rash if he were to (try to) move him on this season. He’s been objectively poor for two years. The upside to sticking with him in case he turns it around seems to be diminishing with each game given that Henderson is waiting in the wings. Feel the time is right to make the change.

-1.8 seems generous. I might be misremembering, but I'm sure he's thrown in a lot more goals than that this season.
It also doesn't count the amount of times he stayed rooted on his line and let dangerous crosses come in causing us to concede

I don't understand what's happened to him.

Past his prime. Happens to everyone, but he was excellent in his younger days and may well deteriorate faster. He also doesn't strike me as someone with great mental strength. I can see him really being bothered by his Spain form and really not getting over his mistakes. He may or may not find his great form again, but i doubt it will be here. Maybe he needs a change fo scenery to get back to his best, like VDS with us.

He is still young, but him relying on great saves only will make it harder. Once you don't have as many great saves and make basic mistakes, like now, what is left? He isn't great on the ball, isn't great at coming off his line or with high balls, isn't great at commanding the defense. I don't see the point of keeping him and giving him regular game time next season.

Though never been in the same class as VDS let alone Schmeichel (not many are to be fair), he has been our best player since Fergie retired. However, since his worlc cup blunder for Spain, he just hasnt been the same. He has turned into Barthez, was one of the worlds best, now he is a world class keeper that is making great saves.....and letting in soft goals and making other blunders.

Never thought I would say this, but if there is a side that will pay good money for him, I would seriously consider it now. Romero has been fantastic every time he has played for us, is good enough to be number one keeper for a year or two and then of course there is Dean Henderson.

We need four signings in my opinion this summer. I think maybe DeGea gets another season, well he almost certainly will, but I wouldnt be gutted if he was sold now like I would have been a couple of seasons ago

Big pre-season coming up, I'm sure Henderson will spend it with us before potentially going on loan again and might well do enough to oust DDG

I've been a big defender of Dave but even I'm getting fed up of these errors now

I've no idea how accurate this is. But if the 7 goal swing is real, Henderson has to be first choice next season.

Same. If I'm not watching the game and I see we've conceded my first thought is "please don't be another De Gea mistake". Not good.

No club is paying him 400k a week now - it's so obvious he's past his best but he should be entering peak years as a goalkeeper

Conceded a very similar goal to today last season vs City

He holds his fist up against his open palm to parry the ball. A smaller surface area and if he doesn't hit the centre of the ball with his fist, the ball can bounce off at ridiculous angles, including past you and into the net. Could be timing, could be poor technique, needs to cut it out really.

Shite now....never seen such a drop. Will always be grateful and respectful for what he’s done over the years though.

Frequency of mistakes is far too high. The top keepers make 1 or 2 a season. The very good maybe a few. De Gea has a howler in him every couple of games now it’s ridiculous

I've been thinking this for some time. He's turned into the kind of keeper who makes great saves from time to time, but is unreliable in the sense that he makes costly mistakes.

I guess he peaked very early. He was world class in his early 20s, which isn't all that common for a keeper. I'd like to think this is just poor form, but it's gone on for too long now. Looks like his career trajectory is going the way of Casillas.

Yet another poor effort from Dave which has cost us points. He’s been great over the years but hasn’t been the same since the World Cup. Dean Henderson has to be in serious contention for the no.1 spot need next season.

I was thinking this before. They say a good keeper is worth 15 points a season but De Gea must be costing us almost as many.

Time to move on.
I agree.

It’s a shame but I think it’s clear now that he just had an early peak. The goalkeeper equivalent of Rooney, incredible up to about 27, then fell off a cliff. 2 years of poor performances can’t be called “bad form” it’s just a decline.

The contract is a major issue and who would have thought after all the speculation over the years De Gea would decline so quickly.

Unfortunately for him we've got the best up and coming keeper in English and maybe world football on the books. Thus giving Ole a huge dilemma, does he stick with De Gea or does he ditch him and keep Henderson at the club next season.

Woodward must be throwing up in a bucket though, this contract is as much as a problem as the Sanchez one, 400k a week. No one is paying that wage anymore so De Gea is the new superstar declining on the gravy train.

2018 world cup really fecked him. Is not that he became shit at everything he still does some great saves but god damn the feck ups, so many gifted goals.

Its time for Henderson now.

Many of us always expected him to drop away earlier than most keepers. His entire game is pretty much based on reflexes and pure shot-stopping ability, and those are amongst the first things to start deteriorating. Keepers who go on to play at the top level until their mid or late 30's normally have great all-round games and those other aspects improve through experience to compensate for the loss of reflexes.

It's just happened a couple of seasons earlier than even we were expecting. :(

But the thing is he has been poor for 2 seasons now so he already started to deteriorate at 27 which is too far a stretched even we all expected his performance to drop...

And it's not as if those goals conceded needed any special saves, they were mostly straight at him and surely that's down to motivation and concentration?

A few more outings like that and we'll be forced to bring up Henderson a lot quicker than I thought...

Can't have our keeper costing us valuable points at the business end of the season in an already tight race for the 4 like last season

A few more? If there's a threshold, he's certainly already reached it.

I recall saying he wasn't good enough over a year ago and got slated  De Gea's best attribute (only fecking attribute) is on the wane. Maybe we can convince Inter or someone that he's still got it.

Fickle department right now right here... be interesting to see how people feel the next time DDG does a wonder save.

Grass is greener syndrome is strong here. The guy made one mistake for fecks sake.

Another game where we drop points solely due to a De Gea mistake. It was not long ago that he was earning them for us regularly. It is sad to see this prolonged dip in form in one of our most iconic players who was once world-class through sheer reflexes.

He will hold his spot this season and the next too, I suspect; he's earned himself a very, very long rope thanks to his previous exploits and the financial responsibility of that contract. But you have to ask at some stage - is this a drop in form, or is it a steady decline? The longer you keep asking that question, the more you gravitate towards the latter answer. Dean Henderson is knocking at the door for now, but if Dave doesn't recover soon, someone or other is going to replace him at a club like United.

I am rooting for him to find back his form, he's very young for a goalkeeper and can still offer a lot.

His weaknesses are being brutally exposed now that he's lost his ability to make those unstoppable saves that win you games. Not that Spurs' goal today wasn't savable, I'm sure most championship keepers would have dealt with that with ease.

almost fell for it, but the last sentence made it clear
