My point is that when considering status and wages, De Gea has been unbelievably bad. Just check the official stats in the PL website, his ability to deal with crosses and aerial balls in general is atrocious. Not vocal enough, doesn't organise the defence and his distribution is average at best. He even lost his armband to a newcomer.
Certainly the most overrated and overpayed keeper in the league right now. It was similar with Rooney under LVG.
Although I can understand the english hype over Rooney, but De Gea is from Spain so it is strange. He has never been that good for Spains national team so they don't hype him much.

I meant in terms of the resentment the rest of the squad allegedly felt towards Sanchez. Why is it not baffling?

Minimal contact for me, though to be fair I am one of those who think keepers get far too much protection in situations like that, should be able to jump with them in the same way you can with an outfield player, I don't mean arms all over each other, but some shoulder to shoulder contact. Fair Game.

De Gea would have been eaten up in earlier eras of the game.

Ah, the glorious earlier eras of the game. Mint.

It's not all that complicated, he's holding the ball with both arms stretched out, it doesn't require much contact in order to loose control and it's hardly shoulder to shoulder.

I will repeat what I said about him when he sadly renewed his contract, we have an average goalkeeper with CR7 salary now. Stupid management from Ed and the novice manager to give him that contract.

That was a serious clanger and even in the first half when he was hardly touched at the corner and he dropped his lollies again.
He is definitely one of the best shot stoppers the game has seen but he is one of the worst goal keepers at the top level when it comes to commanding his penalty area.
I am sure Romero would do a top job if he came in but then we will have the problem of having the worlds highest paid goalkeeper warming the bench and denting his confidence.
Henderson is doing the business over at Sheffield so it is hardly crisis time for us as a club and we all know the line from Ole will be that big Dave is the best goalkeeper in the world and we have faith in him and he is our No.1

Because the club has form for doing that sort of thing in recent times. In fact in that situation, the surprising thing would be for the club to show foresight and move him on quickly.

I don't think the players would feel the same resentment for de Gea as they did Sanchez, as de Gea previously contributed whereas Sanchez showed nothing from start to finish.

he’s made 2 mistakes in 2 weeks. 1 he should’ve got a reprieve as it was a foul, but granted, he still made a mistake. Prior to that, he’s had a decent season.

To claim he’s the worst keeper in the premier league is funny. It’s ridiculous and it’s a massive overreaction.

Prior to that game he made the second most mistakes among Premier League's GKs. Look it up.
Also remember the end of last season when he cost us points after points. The Barcelona game alone was the worst performance any goalkeeper ever did for United.

I still remember when Lloris was a calamity keeper for Spurs.

Doesn't mean his shyte.

Same for De Gea here, until we're winning, there's no point in defending De Gea.

The conclusion will always be "He is shyte, get rid".

Save your arguments, no need to convince them otherwise.

I've been saying for years that Kasper Schmeichel was the man and most people assumed I was taking the p....
Then he went on to win the league with Leicester FFS. This season again, Leicester have the joint best defence, and that's despite us taking their best defender (apparently) from them.

Basically he's doing a better job on his own of trying to stop City and Liverpool than our whole bloody club is.

Sign em up Ole.
Yep. Kasper is probably the most underrated keeper around, as people seem to assume you are bringing him up purely because of his father. While he's obviously never going to reach that level, he's still a bloody good keeper in his own right. Arguably the best all-rounder in the league. Leicester won't sell him unless it's absolutely stupid money though.

I mean that if we had a stronger team like before then we could rely on him for the rare moments when the opposition mainly threaten from long range shots. Those tend to be De Gea's bread and butter, and arguably what he made his name doing, in addition to closer shots which magnified his cat-like reflexes (age could be showing now).

As far as I see, the way our team is set-up to attack on the counter increases pressure on the defense because it means the opposition have more chances to score, which shows up both De Gea and our defence's weaknesses. Put simply, inviting players to attack us and hoping for a break is a bad idea because we can't soak up pressure.

Basically, I agree with your point. Given the way we play, we do need a more commanding keeper who takes better command of the box (including at corners).
Agree and disagree at the same time.

DDG played for Spain NT, remember? And he had been questioned for his worth even when he was in top form for us. His distribution is not what’s to be expected. Doesn’t communicate with the defense. That possession based football is to prevent a mud fight in their own box!

Playing on counter doesn’t necessarily mean GK facing threat inside the box. It’s organizing skill. Under SAF, and Mourinho’s best period, the defensive tactic did their job protecting DDG, in our box, and force opposition into take pop at range instead.

The real issue is the quality of the team is lower, and we’re tactically lukewarm. Either a team that’s specialist in anything. Doesn’t know what to do with possession. Fragile defensively, yet best weapon is counter which only works against idealist team who come at us.

There's not anymore to be said that hasn't been said already. It's time to put him out of his misery and put an end to this nightmare. We are supposed to be a big club, a GK that was already limited is now dropping the ball nearly weekly into his own goal. I think Enough, we don't need to force ourselves to accept this and risk losing out on top 4 yet again

Between his howler and lingard missing that chance, we lost the chance to win a prefectly winnable game. I wonder how far past credit will take him

Give Romero a run. Lets be honest there was nothing wrong with their disallowed goal - he was a shambles in claiming yet another crossed ball. He needs a kick in the slats.

Romero should have been given a run at the back end of last season. What's the point in having a good keeper on the bench if we don't use him during these type of situations?

DeGea has saved us season after season after Fergie's retirement. He was our POTY for 3 years and has been selected in PFA team of year for 5 years.
He makes some mistakes in this season and half of last season and people are saying he is shit.

Many people do not open their mouth when Ole is doing a bad job.
No one open their mouth about Lingard, Martial, Rashford, Lindelof when they commit mistake.
But when it comes to DeGea and Pogba, everyone is ready to criticize them.

6 mistakes in the PL since the start of last season. 2 in last 2 games, as I said and 4 in that bad spell last year.

The last sentence of your post is ridiculous and incredibly short sighted

He is making way too many mistakes, he really should step up.

very far unfortunately. Our manager is deluded anyway, but half of our fanbase as well. We make all high peofile decisions on emotions, which brought us partially in this mess we are currently.

Davius De Gifter.
Ole will never drop him though even he was one of the reason we missed out top 4 last season. It's too obvious
He's still one of fan's favorite and highest paid player in the club. Managing United is more about politic and less about football nowadays

Have you read the Lingard thread at all?

We have the best #2 in the country, and sorry David but it's time for a rest. Maybe he should be given a holiday like we did with Schmeichel back in the day.

His performances for quite some time now are very reminiscent of when we first signed him. More often than not looks an accident waiting to happen. Weak clearing his lines and poor distribution were in my eyes his 2 weaknesses however, his shot stopping was 2nd to none. However, at this moment in time even that seems to of gone tits up.

Weird how attackers have gone back to boxing him in at corners. He solved that problem in his first season and got stronger in the air. Now he's getting bullied again. I still have faith in him but the last two games have shown a massive backwards step.

Some? He has been shit for the second season now. Get over it.

When you combine his lack of bravery and courage with his errors we really are fecked. All summer I said we should let him leave on a free because all we've done is repeat the Rooney situation all over again. Only problem is it's far more costly with having a past it goalkeeper.

I've never fully warmed to him in his time here because I think he's been extremely lazy as a goalie. He's failed to improve in coming off his line, playing out from the back and being vocal and organising the back four. Sure he's a great shot stopper but with his talent if he had the drive to improve the weaknesses in his game he'd be one of the GOATs instead he just sticks to what he's good at.

He's clearly last in the Schmikes, VDS, DDG comparison after his performances in the last year. VDS retired with us at 40 and was still far more reliable than De Gea.

The quality of this team is already not top 4 material. When the two best paid players (de Gea and Pogba) don't perform due to different reasons,.makes situation worse.
We need Dave back to his best but before that maybe he needs a bit of rest and let Romero do first team duties

I have no faith in Ole actually dealing with the DDG situation. He will continue to be picked for every match and we will not try to recruit a keeper in January.

He currently rank #1. I said look it up. I cant post links. There're articles and videos.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt against Everton - as it was clearly a foul, but when you're throwing the ball into your own net, its a problem.

Time for Romero to come in for a stint I think.

agreed, he is not better than karius, the people who rate him so highly are not updated with the events occurred in the last 3/4 years

Romero is better

He’s declining unfortunately. He’s been great for us but I guess some player has the moment when they will start to decline.
