Manuel Neuer is so good that he's heading home from Russia. He's probably been even worse that De Gea this World Cup but for some reason that gets overlooked.
To put it another way, can anyone remember De Gea ever coming out of his box to clear a football? And it's not as though Neuer is the only keeper in the game to do this. Lloris and Ederson would be two other good PL examples (that's how Ederson got Mane sent off) De Gea is very clearly at the opposite extreme and would be a better keeper IMHO if he took a bit more responsibility when it comes to sweeping up behind his defenders.
I seem to remember that erly in his career and under LVG, De Gea was a lot more willing to play out of his box. It's in the last two years that he has been more conservative.

It's a flaw in his game I noticed from day one. Earlier on he was even spending too much time rooted to his line when the ball was in his box.
Recently he's got better at commanding his area but he's about as likely to step outside his box as he is to step on the surface of the moon.
I was going to say that it's not that big of an issue but thinking about yesterday, Courtois has the same flaw and it puts a little bit of pressure on the defense because the goalkeeper doesn't anticipate back or bad passes. I was also very tense when Mandanda was in a position to receive the ball against Denmark.
He already knows this, I think its one of the main reason he started to lose interest in Real Madrid.See Dave this happens when playing in/for Spain - same would happen when you sign for Madrid..
So just stay with us!

Sometimes he will not even come off his line, never-mind out of the box. There was one situation last year, cant remember who against(maybe Everton?) but Smalling is trying to shepherd the ball back to him, left side of the Utd box, deflected cross from the opponents right side. Smalling running, walking by the end, back towards him with his hands down in that typical come get the ball signal to a keeper. Dave refused, and Smalling ended up having to kick it out for a corner probably from inside the 6 yard box, nearly on the byline.
He is an amazing keeper, pure shot stopping ability the best I have ever seen, but that is not all there is to his job.
De Gea has hardly looked great for Spain whatsover like he does for Man United on a very consistent basis for years in EPL.
Btw, DDG is a great GK but is unfortunately not world class.
Also, DDG needs to replicate his form in Champions League by being decisive in KO-stage (made a poor error vs. Sevilla) and for NT.
His penalty record is utter shambles.
Schmeichel was the same. Obviously saved the famous one against Bergkamp, but for such an amazing keeper he was pretty shite at them. His penalty record is utter shambles.
And people pretend they don't have a massive agenda when they'e tying to blame a keeper for not saving a penalty
Weird bump.
Is being good at penalties even a thing for keepers? Sure they get lucky now and again and guess the correct way, but it’s not a skill that you can just improve.
If the striker sticks it right in the top corner or into the side netting, then it’s not being saved even if the keeper does guess the correct way.
Even if he guesses right, he's not saving that.
Yeah, agreed actually on seeing the replayHe saves it, it wasnt well placed
