My rating is exactly as it was when he started. He is a great talent who needs time and work, but all the tools are there. His shot stopping is getting very good, he's one of the best with his feet already.

What I like the most is that he just moved on after heavy and undeserved critisism and that he just gets better and better. You see that in every game and he is going to be world class in just a few years. Great, great buy!

Of course it's unfair. He's been excellent this season, despite having far too much action. Not one of his "mistakes" have been calamitous blunders either. Even last night there were other players who could and should have bailed him out. Even VdS miscued the occasional clearance. It's very rare to be punished like that for a clearance that was intercepted that far from goal.

I don't think the mistakes have to be calamitous blunders to assess them. Why the speechmarks for mistakes? You don't think they were?

I mentioned before he has to improve his jumping and he has now he jumps higher and reaches less with his arms. Now his punches and clearances have power. Though he was sold short a few times with back passes he never flustered once even with an onrushing forward that's confidence. Personally I hope he doesn't change his kicking style its worth more in the odd goal he let in because we keep possession.

As I have said before, this kid has everything required to be one of the best ever. Unlucky with the goal midweek as every keeper has fecked up the odd clearance but 19 times out of 20 it is not a mistake that gets punished by a goal, in this case it was. His footwork has improved greatly since he arrived at United, something they must have been working on in training and he now commands his 6 yard box much more than he did at the start. This all bodes well in a keeper that is still way short of his peak years.

Anyone think he has been rather let down by the people in front of him on occasion?

Sometimes it looks like he is relieing on his defenders to deal with things and when they haven't he has got caught out.

I think he is a great keeper in the making, his distribution, shot stopping, agility etc are all top notch. Maybe he hasn't quite got the communication with his defenders quite right yet though, not in terms of any language barrier, but in terms of confidence to tell the likes of Rio & Vidic what he wants.

certainly the case against city in the league

I don't get the criticism of De Gea personally.

Bar 2 or 3 mistakes to begin, which to his credit he's looked to have put behind him, with I don't think we could have asked for more from him.

My brother came over today, came over spouting some crap how he's dodgy and the worst keeper in the league. I think unfortunately people remember him from his first few games.

It's bollocks that they're still Coming out with these criticisms of De Gea even though he's settled down really well now. Remember at the start of the season it was how he wasn't getting down to shots, he's completely sorted that out since then. He's taking crosses well too, which was the next criticism of him. What more can he do? Every criticism they throw at him he has obviously worked on and corrected pretty quickly.

If he was English they'd all be jerking off about his talent.

De Gea has improved considerably since his debut. His ability to make great saves is there to see, his kicking is excellent and I think his reading of crosses has got better. Of course he can still improve and will continue to improve but for a 20/21 year old kid in his debut season at a club the size of United, following on from one of the all time greats, he has done extremely well.

Solid performance today. Didn't have much to do other that tip Collocini's effort over the bar.

McManaman was going on about him today as well... calling for Linedagrd to get a game.

Must be something in the Mersey

Lemme see...

20 years old, so basically still a kid
A goalkeeper, one of the most difficult positions to play in
Foreigner in a new environment and culture
Isn't speaking the language
Plays for the biggest club in the English history

Yet, he handles everything thrown at him.

Yeah, Lawrenson's way too harsh on De Gea. He's doing a good job for us.

He has been excellent for us lately. We really couldn't have asked much more of him and the only real bad moment he has had in weeks was conceding that goal against Benfica in mid week.

He has been more consistent than many other goalkeepers in the league and has been one of the best this season with some things he can still improve on. He has been criticised for how he does at corners but he has improved a lot in that area now and looks a lot more confident.

I really don't know how Lawro could say that. He had another great game today and made a few fantastic saves and as for the "commanding his area" point I think he's improved with regards to that too.

I'm sure the next time Lindegaard or Amos get a game the papers will be reporting it as De Gea being dropped like they did the last time. De Gea has had quite a few doubters since he's joined us and has proved most of them wrong (some of which have admitted that), but then there's those who knock him and don't apologise or say anything good about him like with ESPN a month or two ago.

Great reflex save. In quite a few matches this season we've seen him do similar and can see why he gets called "cat".

Hold on Lawro ya cnut.....he has kept 5 clean sheets already in the league! Lindegaard has 1.

Of course one has played a lot more than the other but I get your point :p

Why the feck

does idiots

like Lawrenson

write like

this?

If you can't put more than 5 words together stick to twitter. As for the "article" itself it's outright laughable.
De Gea looks does not look as if he fills the goal yet, either in stature or size. In many ways, he looks as if he needs bulking up.
So you basically haven't got a clue and you're using standard phrases that usually describes a new player trying to settle in the PL. Just need to put in "Yung and lerning" and he'd basically be a caf member.

Bar the opening couple of weeks, I can't think of a keeper who has made fewer errors / performed better than him in the league.

If he was English they'd all be jerking off about his talent.

Hart has made more mistakes than De Gea (even including De Gea's first games), but you don't hear much about that. The English press would carry De Gea around in a golden chair and do whatever he desired if he was English.

Am I the only one who thinks all this criticism in the press might actually be a good thing? If you're confident enough (which De Gea certainly seems to be) it's a hell of a motivator to prove billions of people wrong every week. Fergie basically just need to hand him a newspaper to get him fired-up.

I want to see him playing every game. Fantastic stuff today, and getting better with every outing.

Isn't it convenient that all shots are equal in every way? It makes evaluating goalkeepers so much easier than if goalkeepers faced a variety of shots of different difficulties.

De Gea is a cunning swine... he deliberately let in those shockers early on so that people would take pot shots from distance and he would get his save % up and make it to the top of this list.

He's got that aura of confidence around him, which top keepers do. I'm never worried when he's in goal for us. I was very worried whenever Kuszczak or Foster lined up for us, for example.

His distribution and his good feet helps alot as well.

Cant get over the fact how much of a top keeper he looks at the age of 21! I'm bemused that some people can't see we've got a steal here.

To be honest, I'm not really seeing it.

Don't get me wrong, he certainly doesn't look bad, especially for his age, and I've got every faith that Fergie & co did their homework and have got the right man.

But, from what I've seen so far, he's got a fair bit of developing to do, and there are quite a few better keepers in the Premier League on current ability/performances.

his good feet helps alot as well.

And I'm certainly not seeing this... it's like somebody said it and everybody just went along with it... emperor's new clothes!
His kicking and the related decision making needs a lot of work imho.

:eek::eek::eek:

His kicking tends to hit a man more than most goalies.

That's an incredible opinion, to be frank.

If you can't see it, then I'd suggest you go find another sport. Because you know squat all about football.

The lad is by far the best goalkeeper with his feet in the league - he's even better than VdS for crying out loud! Not only does he have good technical ability, he can hit a pass as good as any keeper I've seen.

I'm honestly baffled that you don't think this is the case, it's clear as a day.. Are you serious?
