I said it at the beginning of the season, soon it will will be him who saves our asses and not the outfield players. I predicted that by the end of the season, the critisism will be gone - well, seems like it will be even before. Another good performance and its great to see the constant improvement, he gets better and better

Was very impressed with him today. Hope SAF sticks with him and doesn't rotate him too much in the PL and CL. I think he has shown the no1 jersey is his for now.

I've noticed in the last couple of games he has started kicking the ball long rather than pass to a United player.

I thought he was very good today. The one part of his game that needs work is his defense of corner kicks. He occupies space right on the goal line usually behind one or two attackers and a handful of our own backs. He's often a spectator in those situations, but he'll only get better.

Very excited to see progressing.

Yes. I noticed this too.

Was kind of annoying today especially. Him, Rio and Evans were just punting balls upfield.

DDG's distribution has been wankworthy thus far. He shouldn't change his style.

Today I think it was because Liverpool applied more pressure than teams usually do. Means there's less time to play those lofted passes to the full backs since the opposition has time to get in and intercept them if they start close to our defenders when he hits it.

Absolutely. I dont think our coaches want that part of his game to dissipate. The last two games he's played in have involved the opposition trying to put pressure on us immediately we get the ball. Some of us would be screaming bloody murder if he tried pulling some of the passes that he's done at the beginning of the season. I definitely miss them but I think he was instructed not to play those kind of balls with respect to who were playing.

he was great tdoday but i still have this impression that he gets away with little mistakes he makes

For the bags of ability he has shown he has, at his age I'm quite happy he is getting away with these little mistakes. In 5 years he will still be mid 20's and he will have no doubt have established himself as our undisputed number one.

Yeah, today some of them were justified though, in my opinion, he didn't want to risk playing the ball in a dangerous area, it was his first game there after all.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a better GK at 20. Has a lot to learn but potentially a GK that can do everything.

Really happy with him.

Well Buffon was a pretty good.

The potential is huge for De Gea, and he made some good saves today and has continued to impress me, not necessarily with amazing performances, but the maturity to be able to get on with job after minor mistakes, Foster, who was 5 years older, dwelled on his when he had his run.

I just don't get it why commentators keep saying every game he makes a save, "He had his critics, he made mistakes at the start and now he is doing better." Its freaking annoying.

No Cleverley, Rooney and Anderson playing against Pool. They are the ones who keep it short.

It would be amazing if he stays with us his entire career and retires at 40 odd, with a wealth of championships under his belt and, I assume, challenging Giggsy's appearances record. Of course in a team still managed by the 172 year old Sir Alex Ferguson.

It's actually absolutely comical that we're still having to put up with the 'after a rough start, he might just be starting to come to terms with life at United' bollocks. He had one or two shaky moments in his first game or two, but since them he's been freaking outstanding. The amount of crucial saves he's made is incredible.

Van Persie's penalty
Van Persie's volley
His save with his feet from Ramires' volley.
His diving save from Ramires' open goal
His save from Wilkinson's shot against Stoke
The other save against Stoke when he tipped it wide of the post
His save with his foot against Basel when they were through
The save from Suarez's first half attempt, not a hard one, but still made no mistake
Save from Kuyt's volley
Save from Henderson's looping shot

You have a good memory.

He's been more busy than I would have liked. But its great for his confidence.

Really...I didn see that yesterday

Me either, he claimed them confidently mostly. There was perhaps one or two moments when he seemed lost under the flight of a ball into the box for a millisecond, but then sorted himself out, but that was it. It's unfortunate that this is becoming his new stereotype after the previous one that he was just generally a bad keeper was quickly disproved. I wonder what's next? He's a good shot stopper, good with crosses, and fantastic distribution, but I don't like his beard, so he's shit.

But he's da spanish cat doe!

I just love the way you can actually see him improving with every game. Didn't like why it happened, but him storming out of his goal to give Giggs a bollocking after the free-kick was nice to see, good show of confidence.

Agreed!

I think what this proves once again is how good our coaching staff is. The rapid improvements in chicharito, nani, smalling, etc. Give credit where its due. Unde rated backroom staff.

Barclay is an absolute clown. Under no circumstances take anything that idiot has to say seriously.

We all bash journos as being stupid, dimwitted, etc....however, this guy is genuinely clueless.

He almost deserves our sympathy.

Barclay defends himself by saying he called him a liability because he "was a liability when I said he was." But at the time he didn't say something like "I'm not convinced by the little I've seen of him", he basically said be was a poor goalkeeper and that the coaching staff made a mistake by going for him as the new nr. 1.

It's obvious to any sensible person that the mistakes De Gea made were because he was adjusting to a new team and to a new style of football. Barclay seems to think he was actually crap at the time and has magically become a good goalkeeper in two months.

Exactly mate. He's an arrogant cnut as well.
