How far would you estimate Walcott was? 15 yards? I think that is too far to be nutmegging a keeper.

His girlfriend congratulated him on twitter, translate says this.

Man Utd incredible game! @ D_DeGea you as always spectacular! Paradon giblets, especially the penalty!

Giblets

I have it on good authority that 'Paradon giblets' means 'Sell Gibson'.

I thought he played really well today, Was the other end of the stadium for the first goal, But from what it looked like to me was that it was 100% the defences fault, They just completely switched off in injury time.

Don't know what Evra was doing most of the match, very suspect defensively.

I just think he wasn't prepared for a low shot - at all. Lack of concentration yada yada, he still did great on numerous other occasions.

Not wanting to rain on your parade but once again he was culpable ... as he has been in every game. I'm sure he'll eventually have a game where he doesn't make a major mistake or conceded one where most keepers wouldn't ... he is playing behind one of the strongest teams in the world who also happen to be on a great run of form.

He may come good, but then on the other hand he hasn't really displayed anything to date to say he will. Just my take on it ... not trying to beat him about the head just trying to be objective.

It only seems to be low shots directly at him he struggles with. I'm no goalkeeping expert by any means, but all three of his iffy goals conceded this season have been like that, and I think its a case of him not sorting his feet out in time before the ball gets to him. If he'd set himself earlier he'd possibly have saved all three.

FFS, van der sar used to let in goals that go between his legs pretty regularly.
De Gea had a composed game with great distribution, saved a penalty, did a fecking double save and never fumbled a ball or missed a catch, and some of you think he played badly?

Can't be arsed to look for it, but somewhere in this vast thread I predicted his penalty save. He looked good, and if we plan to score eight goals a game, we could afford to play Rafael in goal.

I'd thought he played really well today, I'm just speculating as to what patterns may be emerging about the type of goals he's conceded.

With some people he can't win until he's retired a legend and they can compare his replacement to him!

Good again today in my opinion, and as I said after Spurs, the most important thing for me is that he has the right attitude. The talent is there, the rest will be ironed out.

They were all routine ... open your eyes man.

And once and for all will someone explain to me what the following means:
'... had a composed game with great distribution ...' ? WTF ?

But really, where is the talent ... I haven't yet seen it. Seriously ... nothing that you don't see in every other keeper in the EPL. Seriously, who has made more mistakes this year.

You've never kicked a football, have you? Don't really watch too much football either, I can see. Do you even know what distribution means??

Is it a mistake to concede a goal through your legs as a keeper? It happens to every single keeper especially from so close.

Well, Ben Foster. Eric Steele and Sir Alex are probably looking at bringing him back as we speak.

Its pretty common for keepers to be nutmegged by low had shots. VDS conceded quite a few that way during his career.

he loves passing the ball to smalling.

Ahhh, I see now. Christ what was I thinking ... top class indeed, how could I have missed it.

But seriously, Walcott was a good distance from de Gea.

This may seem somewhat bizarre but I think he may actually have a relatively slow reaction time, comparatively speaking. And before folks try and knock me down on this one, that does not mean he has slow reflexes.

If you'd just take a look at the top of this very page, you'd see that Walcott is two yards outside of the six. Not exactly 'a good distance'.

Try watching leagues outside of England and you might've seen that De Gea is the most exciting young keeper since Casillas.

Please give me a list of five GKs that were playing at this level at 19 and looked better? Lets make it easier, just give me a list of five GKs that were better at his age.

He is technically very good, and its pretty much unprecedented for such a young keeper to play at such a big club. He might make a few mistakes, actually he will or sure, but he is and outstanding talent hence SAFs trust in him.

His save from RVP's volley just at the start of the 2nd half where things got a bit nervy...
Very good.

Can't blame him for the goal, Walcott struck it really well and true. It was all a matter of luck, whether your feet happen to be in place to block the shot or not. In this case - not.

Great penalty save, good all-round performance.

Third game in england, defence all over the place in both goals. Lock this thread until christmas at the least, please.

For the record, he is twenty years old.

Indeed, he'll be 21 soon too ... anyway, age is irrelevant ... SAF signed him to be the #1 ... that means he believes him to be good enough right away ... he has made more successive mistakes than any keeper I've seen at United for a long time.

Fortunately for everybody, they haven't made any difference in terms of costing the team. Call SAF a genius , well we'll see in time.

From memory it wasn't called offside, hence why DDG jumped up and collected the ball.

Pointless De Gea bashing in getting boring :boring:

It's not pointless bashing ... I'm not bashing him per se, its about putting performances in perspective. Some folks on here just don't have it.

If they want to believe he has fantastic distribution and has been good then so be it ... unlikely to change people's opinions if that's how they feel so far. Me ? Nahh ... not convincing, just as i felt about Berbatov, but for slightly different reasons.

Here too. It was a good but most of all important save. That with Young's first a couple of mins later were the defining few moments of the game. Arsenal were still in it then.

It was a totally shit penalty shot.
