he will come good, of that i have no doubt. however at the moment i must admit that when someone shoots from range i hold my breath
VDS was amazing with the ball at his feet. He was unflappable and I can count on one hand the amount of times he looked in danger of being caught out. He was better at that than De Gea has shown so far.To be honest, Van Der Sar's distribution is a bit overrated. Especially in the latter portion of his time with us, he would foil many counter attacking opportunities by hoofing the ball up the pitch when the attackers haven't even returned to their positions yet.
His handling was inconsistent. There were at least two times where he plucked shots out of the air and held them where I would expect most keepers just to push them out wide. One of them in particular even VDS would probably not have caught. I saw him do the same for Atletico last season, so it's something he obviously does have the ability to do.You thought his handling of the ball was good? Not at all concerned with the shots at him that he was spooning back into the danger area?
Manchester United goalkeeping great Peter Schmeichel has backed under-fire David De Gea to prove his worth at Old Trafford.
David De Gea, who joined United for a reported transfer fee of £17.6 million from Atletico Madrid this summer, is under the microscope after some shaky early performances between the posts for the Red Devils.
However, the 20-year-old goalkeeper looked more solid against Tottenham in United's 3-0 win on Monday and Danish legend Schmeichel believes there is much more to come from him, given time.
"He's very unfairly, in my opinion, been criticised, even before he played his first game," Schmeichel told Five Live Sport. "I wouldn't say he's made massive mistakes."
Schmeichel added: "I thought he showed tremendous character in the game against Tottenham the other day. He wasn't fazed by being at Old Trafford.
"Everything he did was good - his catching, distribution was spot on. I think he has learned something.
"He's only young and it takes a little bit of time to adjust to the kind of football we play in the Premier League, the kind of players you play against and the kind of referees we have, who allow a lot more physical contact.
"He needs to learn and I think he has a great future ahead of him."

1. 20 year old
2. Playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world
3. Has played a handful of games
4. Cannot speak english fluently yet.
Add those points together, and I think captain obvious would state that the boy is allowed to be nervous.
But to judge so early? Typical. but fecking silly.
Very, very silly..
That's what I love about bragging spastics, everyone and their dog is quoting that fecking "OH HE'S CONCEEDED MORE GOALS OUTSIDE THE BOX HURR DURRFFF DURRR" because of Jamie fecking Redknapp.
I am freaking ecstatic we went with this lad rather than Steklenburg or anyone else. Freaking love this fellow.
I don't think he could've done much tbh, where the feck was Evra?
Forget the goal, his first half performance so far has been great.
He gave the ball away carelesslyWho's blaming Evra? He can't mark 2 players. Someone else was out of position there.
