Stinker from him tonight I'm afraid. Looked weak on crosses and handling, not to mention nearly being humiliated in the first few minutes with some appalling decision making.

Looks like Jim Leighton Mk II at the moment. Hope I'm wrong. :nervous:

He has an history of injuring GK's too. Injured Craig Gordon last season.

Apart from holding on to just about every long shot, many of which a lot of other keepers would have only pushed away.

No that didn't happen. The long shots he received tonight were awful. However we do tend to commend EVERY single player in the team when we win, and slate almost EVERY single player in the team when we lose..

De Gea will be a great keeper. He is just a bit too young. He needs to learn faster than a normal keeper at 20 should.. And that's the price you pay for playing at a club like United..

However tonight's game will only add to his confidence, because after all, it's a win, a big win, against a good team, and it's a clean sheet.. He needs those now to build up his confidence.

Have a word! Talk about OTT!

Question:
Will anybody be comfortable having De Gea against Stoke? I will just for that game start with Lindegaard.

I would still want De Gea. It will be a challenge for him. That is how you get better. You go up against physical opponents and Stoke are as physical as they come. He will need to experience it. He is just getting his confidence back and you would not want to bench him.

For an ex-keeper, you're a shite judge of talent. His technique is excellent. A few wobbles in his first few games can't hide the fact he's a quality young keeper. At least it shouldn't.

I won't be comfortable but I want him to go through it. It seems he has all the talent in the world and he needs that test to become stronger.

NO WAY! De Gea HAS to start every single game, or we'll just shatter his confidence.

He is our no. 1 keeper. He is just too young. He'll make mistakes, no doubt about that, however our best bet will be on him learning from those mistakes fast (and on those mistake not being too costly).. Subbing him now will kill his confidence, and push his development curve a couple of years backwards..

Rubbish.

I hope I'm wrong on this one, but you have to admit, I called PIG while numpties like yourself thought he was the best thing since sliced bread with fingersaves.

He's had a simply shocking start to his MUFC career. On the plus side, the only way is up. :)

He should play in central midfield with passing like that. Still sloppy with the crosses,Spurs were abysmal in not hanging every corner under his crossbar or crossing early. Then there was VDV taking the piss with 40 yard strikes, a lame cripple could save this unless they come from C Ronaldo.

You don't judge football well do you?

Some absolute clowns in this thread. I begin to think some want this guy to fail. He looked unsure on ONE cross all game. Everything else he done well. It's his 2nd competitive game for the club and people want to write him off already? Get out of here.

People have never really rated PIG. You were hardly the only one.

Thought he had a solid game tonight, only time it really got away from him was when Defoe hit the post, other than that he did well. Spurs tactics of 'shoot from absolutely anywhere' gave him a good chance to get his gloves on the ball and increase his confidence and his distribution was very good again.

Nah, PIG always had fundamental flaws in his game. "Numpties" like me figured he might improve his kicking and distribution to an extent where his excellent shot-stopping would merit a place in the team. Turns out it never did.

De Gea's different. His technique is very good. Good handling of the ball and really excellent feet. He's just a little inconsistent and has the occasional nervous moment. It's almost as though he's a young lad, just out of his teens that just started playing for the biggest club in the world. Mad, eh?

No. He had a "stinker."

get seriously annoyed with the press and the commentators, seem like they want him to fail badly, some even comparing him with taibi....wankers.

I thought he was average, a step up from his previous performances though which is a good thing. I think some people are overhyping his performance, which is quite understandable after the criticism he has been receiving.

The way he spills some shots had me slightly nervous and his decision to do that lil dribble could have gone horribly wrong. Thank God it didn't.

I can see the potential in the lad though and I hope he can build from this.

Exactly. I don't know what Ralphie's on about.

I was quite happy with tonight's performance. Everyone was expecting an onslaught from Spurs on him and I thought he responded to that well. How many shots did he save? How many did he hold comfortably? There were a couple of powerful efforts he managed to deflect away or collect quickly, but his all round game was commendable. We should be pleased to see him look so confident with his footwork and distribution. That shows he's starting to relax and get over his initial nerves.

His latest tweet

"yes!! Victory with the goal 0... Feelings are good"

Oh bless him

Good handling of the ball ....... and inconsistent?

He has inconsistent handling of the ball.

Ralphie's right, he's looking shaky but we have to stick with him and show confidence in him. He'll come good in the end.

Yes.

He's not one of those keepers who punches everything away. If a shot is there to be held onto, he holds onto it. Good handling.

The one he shovelled round the post moved late and was awkward to get down to. Safety first. No problem there.

The only real handling errors were the Huddlestone shot (and he fecking smelts the ball) which he recovered himself and the lapse of concentration with the high ball (he's still getting used to having less protection than he does in Spain and was obviously nervous about getting clattered)

I kind of liked that, myself. For all we've worried about the mistakes and the press shaking his confidence, it said to me that the lad hardly lacks it. Dinking it to the side, cool as you like, with Van Der Vaart bearing down on him. Might not've been the brightest of moves, but he'll learn that as he goes. Meanwhile, I don't think there's much question in De Gea's mind that he can go out there and do the job for United.

Basically what Pogue's saying here.

I thought the telling thing was that you got the feeling that he had was oozing of confidence, even after all the bad press the past couple of weeks.

He'll make the grade.

thought he did fine, distribution was top notch, even if he did give me a mild heart attack when taking the ball around VDV or whoever it was. Bit wobbly on the cross he will get used to it give em time, theres a class act of a keeper in there.

He was fine but there will be mistakes in him for awhile. The impressive thing is it didn't or rather it hasn't disturbed the confidence of our defense. They've not been jittery. He clearly needs to be stronger and that won't happen overnight. Its looking good

I thought he fed off the crowd tonight. Full support for everything he did well and a big round of applause even if he looked a bit shakey. He grew and grew with the confidence he had in knowing that the crowd were behind him, even if he cocked up.

His performance was improved which should do his confidence good but he still had his moments. He will improve with time but I just don't have total confidence in the guy at the moment. In his 3 games, he made mistakes but we won em, I wonder how forgiving people might be if he costs us points later.

Good handling of the ball and really excellent feet.

You thought his handling of the ball was good? Not at all concerned with the shots at him that he was spooning back into the danger area?

Look, I'm not writing him off, but you have to have the most ridiculously red-tinted specs to think he had a good match today.

He got a clean sheet which will help his confidence. Sure he made a couple of mistakes but he recovered pretty well each time. Technically he is very good, and his footwork is top notch. He really does have the potential to be one of the very best keepers in the game but it might take a few years.
