The problem with that team picture above is that its not taken straight on with regards to the DHL board so its not exactly accurate for guessing someones height.

Yes it is, the players are parallel with the board, it doesnt matter what the camera angle is.

Despite the slight angle, he is standing side by side with Carrick. And looks about an inch shorter, IMO. Which would put him at 6'1". 6'2" if you're feeling generous.

Yes it does, the players on DDG's side are actually further away than on Smallings side.

Mind you its prob not much but can certainly give or take a couple of inches or so.

Phil Thomson for example.

Thanks for reminding me of that big-nosed twat. Though he was a hard man but he wasn't so tough when he came up against Robbo and the Shankhill Skinhead. Following behind on Souness's coattails was about his limit. Second rate player and a fourth-rate pundit.

Picture of Fergie and Jones, don't look to be a massive difference in height there.

Now compare the photo of de Gea and Fergie that I posted earlier.

I'll give you that yeah, I'm just stating that the picture isn't exactly accurate for this kind of thing...allthough it gives a better guage than any other pic posted tbf

Don't be a dick. You quoted my post about Jones' height and implied I made a conclusion - which I didn't.

My last post was the first conslusion I made.

Do you think DDG is 7 inches taller than Jones?

You can't tell anything from that picture, If DDG is flat footed and Jones is half way through a step/bounce whilst walking or having jogged over to him then a still shot won't give you any solid info.

Comparing to a straight taken from this DHL shit (anyone - even not good at math - should understand what does it mean)... every player with his head above this line is higher than de Gea. But I don't understand you, is he a worse goalkeeper if he's not 6'4'' or 6'3''? His arms are long as feck and his fingers are not short, too... believe me.

They might not all be at the same distance from the camera so that line doesn't work does it?

Don't understand all the fuss and the slate he's getting in the press. He's only 20, only played a handful of games (and just 1 in the premiership) and doesn't speak English.

Just give him time!

Yes, that's also true, feck my theory then.

Look at Smalling's and de Gea's heads... I'm sure Smalling doesn't have hydrocephalus.

I'm just going to with that he's roughly around 6' 3" or 6' 4" if thats what he's listed as on various websites; including UEFA's very own. I don't see why they'd have false information.

Plus, his height hasn't been called into question really. His problem as been getting down low and getting there quickly! :smirk:

:nervous:

Give him some time, he just needs to get used to the physical nature of the English game and he'll do fine. Edwin let in some pretty similar goals before and the press were also hounding on him before he picked himself up.

Thank god De Gea doesn't read english, the over-reaction from the media...

That pic doesn't take into account if he's slightly leaning forward.

His height is only an issue because?

I just hope his confidence isn't shattered already, the scrutiny he's under must play on his mind a bit.

The "heinous crime" is deciding that your own interpretation of a series of potentially misleading photos is the correct one, seeing as it contradicts the only non-photographic evidence out there.

I guess we'll all be watching closely when the camera pans down the team in our next CL game. That should give a better idea than all these stills.

A crime that you are also guilty of.

The obsession with DDG's height is ridiculous.. the blunders he has made have feck all to do with height, if anything it was all about struggling to get down in time, a trait more likely to be associated with tall keepers.

Obsession? Christ. No one has said the goals had anything to do with his height.

The biggest problem for me is not his ability. I don't think there's any question of that. He needs to believe in himself, but what's just as important is that the rest of the team, especially the defenders, believe in him.

I think he will step up and be a leader especially the next two weeks because there is no Vidic or Rio.

What he needs is soe luck. Look at how Hernandez career started off he scored off his face against Chelsea and he went on from there.

The moment De Gea started both Vidic abd Rio were a bit sluggish - against City Rio was at fault for the first goal mainly and Vidic didnt bother to close Dzeko down.

Against West Brom it was a silly error by Fabio that gifted possession back to West Brom.

Also De Gea has bgun his United career with our first choice centrebacks in sluggish form, our left back injured as well as our right back now out.

Trial by fire.

You just know that Harry being a tactical genius and all will play Crouch up front and try to make him contest with De Gea.

I didn't think anyone was at fault for City's first goal. It was really really hard to defend because Silva's ball was so great. One of the dangers of defending high with the free kick taking there. You're out of balance for heading it away because the ball is going fast towards the goal. Keeper can come out because there are 4+ players running straight at him. As a defender you're running from the ball so you can't follow the man and ball simultaneously. When you strike the ball like Silva did it'll we worse for the attacker not to score than for the defender to defend.
Similar with the Smalling goal. Great ball from Young.

Best height picture ever.

These are my favourite threads in all of forumdom.

Btw that line is about as straight as a chicane.

If carrick is 6 3" then Berbatov is about 6 8" and Smalling 7Ft.

 Stop it.

The line is plenty straight, it's just not particularly horizontal, as noted by the fact that on the right side, it's about 3-4 rows into the crowd, whereas it's approaching the back of the section on the left side.

You should compare the line to the DHL board, not the stands that are a mile away from them..

Still I'm not saying the line is perfect though, hell not even saying that this matters in the first place..

6 ft, 7 ft, or 5 ft! It doesn't matter.. He needs to get better at crosses, and stay fully focused for the whole 90 minutes.. He needs to bulk up a little too..
