It's only two games in to the new season, but I'll be a bit surprised if De Gea plays (almost) all games this first half of the season. I thought he would be eased in and maybe just play 50% of the games, so he would have time learn the language and settle in at United.
I’m sure he’ll be a terrific keeper for many years to come.

He does look worrying like PC Goody off The Thin Blue Line :p

Football Weekly had a great bit on him.

Hansen only talks one bit of sense there about de Gea gaining the trust of his team mates.

“The only way he can earn that is by going out and eradicating the mistakes.

So we should quite rightly give him a run of games to acclimatise before thinking of "resting" him. He hasn't played a Premier League game at Old Trafford yet and the home support should help him adjust. We have some big games coming up and if he successfully get's through them it will do wonders for his confidence.

Right now let's focus on improving his communication, bulking him up and dealing with long shots, then see how he goes.

Absolutely ridiculous over reaction by the media.

Anybody that thought that the lad was just going to step straight into VDS's shoes is an idiot. De Gea was always going to be a long term project.

I could maybe understand the criticism if he was 6 months into his career here and the majority of his performances had been dreadful, but after 2 fecking games? Come on now.

His reflexes on the goal were those you'd expect from a 60 year old. Madness. In all seriousness, though, he's going to have to endure this 'culture shock period' in his first season and hopefully he shows enough talent in amongst that to make sure the fans and staff keep faith in him. You can't draw the same conclusions from his mistakes as you would with those Foster made for us.

I can see it now:

A penalty will be given late on in a game where we'd expect to take the 3 points, de Gea steps up and saves a penalty to keep the match in our hands. "David de Hero" will be the headlines and Ferguson will once again laugh all the way to the bank.

The Times said he was "shaky." Terry Butcher lavished his 'suspect goalkeeper award' upon him. I am awarding Butcher my "What exactly is the point of you?" trophy.

Mirror called him a flop, whilst the Express said that don't bother to learn his name as he'll be sold soon.

Patrick Barclay called him Heurelho Gomes without the shot stopping.

They didn't half talk some nonsense about him on The Game podcast today.

A part of me was looking forward to penalties at Community shield, it would have been an excellent platform for him in a "not critical" situation to have a go, shake off some of the nerves so to speak, might have been just what he needed.

People don't take into consideration he's used to being more active in the general course of a game, he needs time to adapt and to learn to stay on his toes and to remain focused during times of inactivity, this is whats causing him problems at the moment in my opinion.

Exactly, he looked great at Atletico making save after save against Real and Barca.

"People doubting David de Gea? Seriously? No, no, seriously?? Hahahahahahaha... it will be a feast of eaten words at the end of the season"
"De Gea has been learning English (slowly) for 6 months. I see lots of Utd fans sticking by him. Well done lads, we'll b proven right"
"I was a goalie when younger (now a poor centre midfielder in 7 a side). De gea not just good. He is extraordinary"

- Balague

I don't like Ballague on the same side of an argument as myself. It gives me a foreboding feeling.

I must be the only one on the CAF who likes Balague....why all the hate?

He falsely claimed that the Caf favourite Torres was house hunting in Manchester a year before he joined Liverpool. Also the whole Ronaldo to Real story and being friends with Rafa.

1) Ahhh
2) Well it happened didn't it?
3) Aye, I've seen this.
