So pleased for him, but it's nothing he hasn't earned himself. Seeing him develop these past 3 years has been an absolute pleasure.

In hindsight, I'm glad that he got so much stick, as it only makes his development all the more sweeter. I'm sure he was aware of it at the time so I can only hope he was thinking back to those times as he picked up his awards. Now we just have to tie him down for the rest of his career.

Marca says Del Bosque will only select 3 keepers for his initial 30 men squad - Casillas, Reina and DDG :)

Based on performances he should be starting for Spain in the World Cup. A pity that some positions are picked on history and not based on current form/ability.

Incidentally could he surpass Casillas' top level in a few years? Him moving to England already seems to have given him an edge dealing with crosses. His shot stopping ability is huge too.

:nervous:
Yeah, wouldn't be a bad idea considering the current Barcelona situation.
? They have signed Ter Stegen. I am more worried about you evil guys :nervous: I just hope his Atletico connection will keep him off RM forever!

Something I thought during the game and have been reminded about seeing Courtois rushing off his line to deny a one on one. I think De Gea made Lambert's job very easy today for his goal. Being braver in coming off his line could be an area De Gea needs to improve.

True! I am sure LvG will work on it!

But now Atletico concede and this time Courtois should have stayed between the posts!

Yeah, it's a fine line. We certainly want him becoming like Lloris but I'm struggling to think of a time De Gea came off his line and made it really difficult one on one.

YEEEEESSSSS!!!!!!! Deserves it, unlike certain Englishmen going to, or rather not going to Brazil.

It's going to be sad if Mata and De Gea don't continue their bromance at the WC. Not looking like Mata will go :(

He's made it. 3 keepers is mandatory.

DDG will go as they only selected 3 keepers. Mata might not make it in the end, but good to see him still in the 30 men squad with the difficult season he has had ahead of the likes of Herrera, Muniain or Isco (who all had good seasons, too).

It would have been criminal to leave him out. I felt he should have also made the Confederations squad. As far as I'm concerned he should be starting in Brazil.

In the Spanish preliminary squad, along with Mata. Wouldn't be surprised to see both miss out in the end, though.

He won't miss out. It's mandatory to take 3 goalkeepers to the WC and Spain have named only 3 goalkeepers in their 30 man preliminary squad.

EDIT: Looks like I'm late.

How on earth does Pepe Reina still make the squads? Lopez is miles ahead. And Torres

Good news for De Gea, you have to have doubts with Mata though given the competition.

 Ashley Young's missus....

 Holy feck. Avoiding the obvious, surely he can do better than that? I had him down as the type to be in shit posh nightclubs with Grey Goose pulling stunners.
In fact, quite a few are barely doing better than the average bloke.

On topic, delighted with De Gea winning.

Haven't been watching many of Spain's international games this year, has Casillas been starting in all of them? Just wondering if given how he's been used on-and-off at Real this season if there was any shot of De Gea starting.

Still amazes me that they're not picking Lopez. If you were picking purely on form, then Lopez should be 1st choice, de Gea 2nd, and Casillas 3rd.

And I know Del Bosque has always had a massive thing for respecting seniority, but if he's willing to bring de Gea in then he should be willing to drop Reina for Lopez.

Finally gets picked. Probably won't play but at least it's a start. Hopefully Mata will go as well but looking at that squad I'm not so sure.

Yeah and if Valdes wasn't injured (sad for him, he was having a great season, too), then DDG wouldn't have gone. Glad he is going though instead of Lopez. Lopez is better than the mascot Reina but the mascot was always going to go. Anyway, DDG won't complain, the experience and just training with the best squad in the world and with Spain's coaches will be huge for him. Plus I am sure he would rather miss out on some games/tournaments for Spain (like he has doen so far) while knowing that he will be Spain's future No 1 than being in Valdes' or Reina's shoes who have always been at tournaments but never been the No 1.
