Is the rivalry between Atletico and Real Madrid as strong as between United/City or United /Liverpool or would it be seen as less problematic if he moved to Real?

I just hope Real get Courtois or someone else soon. Another thought which crossed my mind, maybe he could return to Atletico when Courtois leaves? They are doing very well after all at the moment.

We should give him a 10 year contract asap!!!
It's a big rivalry, I've always heard it said that Atletico players are very unlikely to ever play for Real. If Barca don't come calling I think he's ours for a long time

He's got his pal Juan here now - I've no doubt that will encourage him to stay!

Such a bromance going on, this was so sweet when Mata scored on Saturday, he ran all the way over to the bench to seek De Gea out

So Courtois has said he will decide in the next weeks if he stays at Atletico or goes to Chelsea. Apparently Mourinho made it clear that he wants Courtois as 1st choice from next season. And Caught Offside / Daily Fail (I know!!) claim that Cech might then join Atletico.

If not, who will Atletico go for? If they seriously want De Gea back, he really might consider it, no? Not sure they can afford to pay him (transfer fee + wages) though.

They can't afford him at all, they are neck deep in debt by all accounts.

Lets say Athletico came calling and DDG didn't push for the move but was open to it, how much would United ask for him? I heard Spurs were rating Lloris at 100mil (lol) but seriously how much can you really get for a top class keeper? Whats the highest transfer fee for a keeper?

Edit:

Record Goalkeeper Transfers:

Buffon - Parma > Juve for £33mil
Neuer - Shalke > Bayern for £19mil
De Gea - Athletico > United for £18mil

In the hypothetical scenario where they could afford him and he pushed to leave, I'd think we'd ask for 30mil or so considering his talent and age and the fact that we paid 18mil to get him when he was still a talent and not the top keeper he is now. And this only if he pushed for a move because he's simply irreplaceable.

£40mil+ easily if we were to even consider. Buffon went for 30mil+ a decade and a half ago.

Really hope he gets Player of the Season.

Me too, Rooney's had a very good season but he's had better. De Gea's been very good for us again and deserves it this time around, unless Rooney goes on a superb run in our final handful of games.

For me he's the only one who has played at a consistently high level all season. Aside from the one fumble in the LC against Sunderland he's been brilliant all season long. I think it'd be nice for him to get the award voted for from the fans as well.

I agree, although it wouldn't surprise me unfortunately if he missed out because keepers often don't get a lot of recognition.

I wouldnt have ANY OTHER KEEPER in the world right now over De Gea. Not Casillas, not Neuer and not Courtois. So happy we chose him over some of the others we were looking at to replace VDS.

We might have paid a lot for him back in the day(18m) but he has certainly proven to be worth that amount. 18million pounds very well spent I would say. Potential world-class keeper (if not already), who will hopefully remain with our club for a longtime to come.

There was also the game against City, where his kicking went to shite.

Still, amazing that there's only two games in the whole season where you can criticise his performance. Especially in this season. How many other United players could you say that about? Not to mention he's probably started more games than any other player in our squad!

18m was a bargain, when you think of the years we're going to get out of him. Is there literally any other keeper that we'd even consider swapping him for?

We're very lucky to have him.

I wouldn't swap him for any player in the world, let alone for a goal keeper!

The only keeper I'd even consider swapping him for is Neuer. Other than that, absolutely no-one. I think some are reluctant to call him world-class because he is so young, but when you think about the top 3-5 keepers in the world, he is without a doubt in that list including Neuer and Courtois.

He's around 6 years older than De Gea though, and not at all streets ahead of him. It's not far fetched to suggest that there's a good chance that De Gea will surpass him in the not so distant future.

Allow me to introduce my freshly patented world class calculator.

By my calculations, Dave comfortably fits the bill.

There are so few top top goalkeepers, especially those who are young and will be around for a long while. So I reckon, considering that, I would not take any less than £50m for him. It makes sense as, for me, he shows as much promise as Buffon did and, allowing for inflation of footballer prices, etc. it would work out at around £50m, if not more to buy Buffon at that age anyway.

To be honest, even at 50m I would be reluctant to sell him. Only if he felt and stated that he really wanted to leave and that we could get a very good price for him, would I sell him mid-contract.

Yeah selling him for an exorbitant fee wouldn't even be enough unless we had a fantastic potential replacement in place. Not to mention he is 23. If he were to look after himself and maintain form and fitness it is possible he could play until he was 40 which would be in the year 2031. Unless he demands a move and we can't bridge the gap through perhaps paying slightly over the top in terms of wages, I hope we never sell him.

They would have to throw silly money at us, for me to even think that selling him would be a good idea

Torres went for 50m and there were many more strikers better than him when that happened. Anything lesser than that for De Gea who is the brightest talent in the world (edit: in his position) and is improving massively year on year is simply not acceptable.

Yes they did. But De Gea has previously saved a lot more difficult to save shots with worse deflections. I guess I am expecting a very high standard from him. In the third one, he didn't even have to change direction and the ball seemingly went a little further from his reach. It was saveable I think.

Should have done better for the third goal? Or even for the Muller goal?
3rd goal took a deflection, would have been a ridiculous save if he managed to get a hand to it. Also, he did have a slight change of direction, the little shift of body weight is all that's needed. No chance with Muller's, Muller was like 2 yards away, no way a keeper saves that unless it's right at you.

Utter bollocks. The deflection completely changed the direction of the shot. He had no chance of saving any of the goals. The blame so clearly lies elsewhere.
