Since when did De Gea's role interlink with the imagination and ability of the coaches that work the outfield players? It's a different matter altogether.
So not only is De Gea a great goalkeeper but he is completely immune from the apparent confidence draining ability of a David Moyes tactical plan and team talk? Are we sure he isn't one of the X-Men?

Our problems are more to do with the absence of imagination and creativity when it comes to coaching a high-profile attacking team rather than some shite said in a team talk. Again, what does De Gea have to do with the passing plays and movement drills, or lack of them, that players like Rooney, Mata and Van Persie partake in?

De Gea is being coached how to stop the ball going into the net. If he has talent, which he does, and the guy coaching him is good, as he's supposed to be, then he'll improve. It isn't rocket science.

So De Gea isn't included in the apparently ever growing list of players who don't believe in the manager. Should fans be booing him, like some people have been suggesting the match-going fans do at the end of matches, for his continued effort when a lack of it would probably lead to Moyes going earlier?

I don't see where you're going with this. I have no idea what De Gea thinks about Moyes.

Well we're supposed to believe that the lack of effort from the outfield players is down to their lack of belief in the manager so logically De Gea's performances must mean he does believe in the manager.

Depends how you see things. I don't think there's been a lack of effort, they just play like they haven't got a clue. I suspect it's because the manager and his staff doesn't.

I think De Gea is performing the way is because he's a) exceptionally talented, and b) receiving good coaching via Woods.

Our most consistent player and our best one is the one position that a managers tactics can't impact. A keeper does the same job no matter who's in charge. At least we'll have him for the foreseeable future. Love him.

DDG's development has been a joy to watch. I do have one question though - how come we don't have a player on the near-post at corners (or far-post)??? Would have had a chance to clear Dzeko's second goal.

Our defending of corners yesterday was abysmal. Why were we man marking? Zonal has worked perfectly for years.

Not sure why this thread is getting bumped with unequivocal praise today.

He made one good - but not amazing - save, made a hash of some routine clearances (the good save he made was a direct consequence of one of them) and was rooted to his line a bit more than you would ideally want when City were putting dangerous crosses into the box.

He's yong and lernin and is already a fantastic keeper but it's weird the way he has become so completely beyond any criticism.

Because he is one of the only consistent beacons of hope we have this season. Criticizing him just feels wrong.

The amount of times the backpasses to him are overhit, or onto his weaker foot is unreal. Our defenders really are shoddy at passing the ball, especially Jones. His passing is laughably bad. They constantly put de Gea under pressure because they have no confidence on the ball and hardly any options in front of them. We miss Evans in this aspect, as he's our only defender who likes to play it out from the back these days.

Yeah, Jones couldn't pass water last night. Still, as a keeper you have to be able to adjust to a pass that isn't perfect. The clearances he made a mess of generally came under no pressure either.

So many passes put him under pressure yesterday. I lost count the number of times our defenders passed the ball to him with an on-rushing City player. They didn't even want to assume responsibility of the ball. Just scared of losing the ball and passing it away with the hopes that the person receiving it would do something about it.

Agreed, his clearances were off last night but he's being put under more pressure when our defenders shit themselves as soon as they are closed down.

He was basically a one man central defense, having to both defend on the front foot and cover Rio in behind, given that he can't fecking run, the useless lump. Tough position for a young defender to be in.

It wasn't ideal but still doesn't excuse the way he repeatedly fecked up really simple 5-10 yards passes. Looked like a pub footballer at times. Dunno what was going on with Jones last night. He's better than that.

His aimless headers annoyed the shit out of me. Especially when he had time to bring it down and look up.

I do worry that he'll be plucked from us within a couple of years.

I'm worried about it happening this summer. He's not been given a new contract and Barcelona are searching for a new GK, Madrid possibly too. Hope he commits long-term soon.

Barca have just signed Ter-Stegen and Madrid have Lopez as a starter and Casillas on the bench. Doubt either of those would be in the market for a new 'keeper in the immediate future.

If Atletico win La Liga then he can be justified for going back there if they have the cash to do it.

So he might be going to the world cup after all (well I hope he gets picked). Valdes tore his knee ligaments today apparently so that means either De Gea or Diego Lopez will get called up to replace him.

Can't imagine why Lopez would go. De Gea is Spain's best keeper already. Lopez has had 1 and a half seasons at a top club by the age of what, 31? De Gea's been the starting keeper for two of Europe's elite for the last 5 years.

Valdés has suffered what looks to be a pretty serious knee injury tonight. He may well find himself incapacitated for the World Cup, so de Gea must surely have a great chance of being involved in Spain's squad? Or will they opt for López?

doesn't make sense to bring lopez in my eyes. he's a top goalkeeper, but there will be that tension between him and casillas, and truthfully i think dave is well better then lopez already. they don't need 3 top top goalkeepers, it makes more sense to take along the future number 1 and avoid all that political squabble that bringing lopez might entail.

I'd just drop Reina and take both. If he's such a joker that he needs to be there for team morale, just hire him as a mascot or something, don't take us a squad place.

His kicking was quite poor in the City match by his usual standards. Even the Dzeko chance, where he made another excellent save, came from a poor clearance from him.

De Gea should have replaced Reina a long time ago. Both Lopez and De Gea should go. Reina is average. De Gea has played in youth tournaments and the Olympics. It's high time he went to a senior tournament. Lopez is really good and currently better than Reina.

Shame about Valdes. He's been in great form this season. Its between Lopez and De Gea to replace him now.

1 Bad kick means nothing really. If it landed somewhere else it wouldn't even be mentioned.

That was one which stuck in mind 'cause of the chance which was created immediately afterwards. But in general his kicking was not upto his usual standards. Many times he just kicked it out of touch or to an opponent. His usual accuracy was missing.
