Liverpool managed to keep hold of Reina despite being crap, though De Gea is currently better than he was.

Exactly and he is the type of keeper a team could have for the next 10 years which you couldn't say for Reina.

Until we hear different from De Gea - can't we just assume that a player is happy with United and won't be looking to leave after a poor season or two?

It's really quite annoying to have this discussed every few pages when everything from De Gea himself suggests he loves it here and wants to be here for a long time.

Depends if a club like Madrid wants to spend upwards of £50 million on a goalkeeper. They usually spend big money on fancy outfield names that get the fans excited.

I think the support he was given by the fans when the media had it in for him won't be forgotten in any great hurry. He's got a chance to go down as a club legend here if he wants it.

If our form doesn't improve why would any of our players be happy? We certainly aren't...

I love him more then I thought it was possible to love another man.

Think they might for an exceptional keeper. Of course we need to have De Gea's new contract all sorted out first, that's got to be the priority.

How the feck does Dave not get picked for the Spain squad, he's fantastic! Surely better than Valdes and Reina, no?!

Anyway, made some crucial saves again today. That double save in the first half was just .

I think I'd cry if he left the club, he needs to sign a new contract ASAP.
To be fair Valdes has been equally good this season he really has. He's made some game changing saves. Although i'd have De Gea over Reina but Reina is the untitled captain in the dressing room and cheerleader supreme so i guess they need him for morale support. DDG will be Spain's number one for a long long time i have no doubt about that.

About Reina he could never step up even in his prime in the international level. He was world class for 4-5 years and Spain's number two above Valdes. But whenever he got his chance he messed it up. Made an error in the qualifiers when he started over Casillas and also in the Euro's in the last group game when Spain had already qualified and rested Casillas he made an absolute howler. This was back when he was a beast for Liverpool. I hope DDG will take his chance when he gets it and not get overwhelmed.

It genuinely looks like he loves it here. I think he'll sign a new contract very soon. Our best player and probably top3 in his position in the world. Staggering prospect.

He's up there with Neymar and Götze among the best young players in the world. A supreme talent. Ferguson made a great call signing him when he did.

It's great to see how confident he is now, I'm starting to feel as "safe" with him between the sticks as I did with Shmikes and VDS, definitely one of the best keepers in Europe.

It's just such a pointless bloody comment. Might as well add it as a permanent footer to every discusion about a player who we want to hold onto.

"Warning: May Leave If We Continue to Be Shit"

It goes without saying and doesn't need to be said.

amongst all the noise about his saves, his distribution was just lethal today. The pass to Valencia was 60 yards long, and pin point accurate, and that lead to what should have been a penalty. The pass to Fellaini at stoppage time in the second half sent him into space in the corner to hold up the ball, and was perfectly accurate. It killed the game off.

He is good with both feet, when it comes to clearing back passes away.

It will be madness if he doesn't sweep up everything at the end of season United awards. He has been our best player for a long time, and is the only one who has played to his level (and what a level it is).

Has to be one of the best shot stoppers in the world. Some of his saves.
:nono: He is the best shot stopper in the world and has been so even before coming to United.

He isn't still the best keeper in the world, mainly because he now despite being ok in the air isn't still that great, isn't that much aggresive and I am not sure that he still commands the defenders that well. However in 2-3 years if he continues improving, he would be easily the best keeper in the world. At the moment I would put him only below Neuer, but we also have a lack of quality on keepers. He isn't as good as Buffon, Casillas or even VDS at their primes. Yet!

I just came in to post this, as no one else has mentioned it. Not only he is a world class shot stopper, but he must also be one of the best at distribution? That final ball to Fellaini at the end was so quick, so rushed yet it bounced perfectly to him. You just run out of superlatives to describe this man.

One thing that's disappointed me is that rarely we see the players go up to Dave and congratulate him after a magnificent save like last night like we see with other clubs. In fact, only time they've gone up to him was the RvP penalty save when we smashed Arsenal at OT. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but if I was his teammate I'd want to show my appreciation.

Phenomenal again last night. When the crowd broke out into a huge DDG chant he must have felt on cloud 9.

I think its probably because its bread and butter for DDG. They must be sick of him pulling off world class saves in training when they should have scored and its the expected level of an amazing goalkeeper. They'll congratulate him when he makes saves that are actually impossible, because thats the only time DDG is really stretching himself

Nah, players go and slap him on the back/head loads of times.

His distribution is brilliant with the ball in his hand. Reminiscent of Pepe Reina.

Still some work to do on dealing with back-passes. Has a tendency to hoof it, when he might be able to play a pass on the deck. Not as composed as, say, Valdes in this regard.

Nit-picking, though. Would be bizarre if a keeper this young didn't have at least some aspect of his game to improve.

I think he was badly stung by the couple of mistakes he made around the time we got knocked out of the CL by Basel. Before that he'd been chipping it out to the full backs and generally looking to start the play off.

Probably. I've no problem with with him erring on the side of caution anyway.

Always seems very comfortable with the ball at his feet. I'm sure we'll see more of that side of his game in the future.

Yeah thought it could possibly be that too but yesterday was a save that saved the ten fools in front of him he has to carry on a weekly basis yet no one went up to him and congratulate him or at the very least, acknowledge his contribution right there and then, which is sad as it seems he's a very much introverted character. Happy to see the crowd backing him as always.

Ok maybe I'm blacking out on a few occasions but it doesn't seem enough, to me.
