Just as important as RVP today. Give him a statue now, save on the increasing price of bronze.

Going to be the worlds best GK not to be at the World Cup :(

How the feck does Dave not get picked for the Spain squad, he's fantastic! Surely better than Valdes and Reina, no?!

Anyway, made some crucial saves again today. That double save in the first half was just .

I think I'd cry if he left the club, he needs to sign a new contract ASAP.

You never know. Del Bosque might throw a curveball and include de Gea in his squad.

Reina has been put out to pasture, in essence, and is only playing UEFA Cup-level football, and Casillas doesn't exist anymore.

I know we're all biased, but I think Del Bosque would be crazy not to take De Gea.

I said to my mates a couple of months back that there's only one keeper I'd want in my team in world football now, and that's David de Gea. They laughed at me, named five or six who they thought were better than him and said I was wearing my red-tinted specs.

Tonight he proved why I said what I said.

He's not in the Spain squad because Casillas or Valdes will definitely be in goal, and since the 3rd keeper almost never plays, Reina is there for 'morale support'.

well he's better then reina, and he'd rival valdes, or even casillas, there are reasons why valdes could be preferred, casillas, and de gea, all with their own advantages over each other, but ultimately with a team that's won the last 3 major tournaments, you need to keep the chemistry and team camaraderie for their spirit, that's more important then disputing who is the better back up.

He was the difference between going out and progressing to the next round. It's amazing that a goalkeeper is so composed and yet so young and his distribution today looked very sharp, something which looked like he lost a bit recently.

It seems a bit silly, he's obviously the future, might as well take him and give him the experience of a big tournament.

Excellent again tonight. Seriously hope we get him to sign a nice, new, long contract extension.

The lack of Spanish football doesn't seem to be affecting his confidence for us so I'm not too concerned.

He definitely deserves it - but I'm sure that it won't be long before he's their number 1 and it'll be a good while before someone replaces him.

My favourite player - and definitely our player of the season so far for me (and most I reckon?).

Yeah I'd want that, but I agree with Malva about team chemistry/camaraderie. He's still only 23, there's at least 2-3 WCs in him.

Fantastic that double save, if they scored there it would've been well over. I know that he's not English, not an outfield player and still quite young but I'd definitely consider him for the captaincy. Definitely got huge cojones.

Yeah I understand the reasons, it's obviously important to get a right balance. Just feel a bit sorry for Dave!

Hope you're well awake now btw :)

If it was up to me he would go to the World Cup and I would offer him a 300k/week salary. He's our only player who hasn't disappointed this season.

in a better side i don't think he'd ever concede a goal.

In an ideal world he'd be Spain's number 1 as he's their best keeper. However, I'm not too dissappointed because it just means Madrid and Barcelona wont be pushing quite so hard to take him away. If he was their first choice playing for Spain each game I'm sure both clubs would write us a blank cheque and tell us we can have whatever we want.

He is Spain's best keeper now. Spain are not invulnerable and they may need someone like him or Casillas (vs Robben 2010) who can make the big save.

In fairness they probably see it more worthwhile keeping him in Under 21 tournaments for the last few years. They tend to go far and he plays every game, equally he's playing with players he will break in to the senior squad with. At this world Cup as has been said at best he'd be 3rd choice (Valdes has been very good this season to be fair and Casillas is consistent for Spain) so there isn't much point in him going they'd argue. As stupid as it sounds Reina is meant to be very good for morale and a good laugh to be around. I'd imagine if you're away from youyr country for up to a month and not seeing much of your family it's vital to have people like him. There's little point in upsetting the apple cart for De Gea to be 3rd choice keeper, his time will come in future tournaments.

Thought that double save was his best bit of keeping of the season.

More and more assured under the high ball too. Great stuff.

It was brilliant, especially under the circumstances, for some reason I really liked that moment when he just casually plucked the ball out the air vs WBA the other week, obviously not his highlight of the season but just shows how far he's come.

Our most talented player? He looks like he at least has a shot of eventually becoming the best GK in the world. Already arguably the best in the league.

Wouldn't be surprised if he takes the armband after Rooney moves on in a few years. He's going to have the aura about him that comes with being the world's best by that point and will already have an absurd number of appearances.

Here's hoping he's going to be here for many years to come. He was superb tonight, several other players did well but we'd be out if it wasn't for him. This team needs a hell of a lot of work done so the outstanding players we do have, especially one so young, must be kept at the club. He's going to be one of the very best keepers in the world for the next decade.

He's become our most important player by quite a margin. I'd rather see Rooney and RVP go before DDG.

He's extremely likeable as well. The perfect replacement for VDS.

One of the big fears about another shite year is that he would be off and quite rightly as well.
